  1. Not guilty typically means that there was to substance to the claim. You can get just about any ambulance chaser lawyer to take a case because they know that the big companies would pay a claim vs. the expense of litigation. And they get their 60% commission from the award.

Some parts of the USA limit attorney fees to somewhere between 33 and 40 percent of the settlement. YMMV

  2. "Enticement"?? "Interesting" . I book based on itinerary and price, so you're saying, you'd get influenced by what you get for free, and stack that up into your decision???

Yes!! It was an enticement, and the rates were acceptable to me!!

Now, the takeaways and increasing prices have made other lines more attractive.

BTW I just got a brochure that shows Princess cruises and contrary to previews posts, they offer FREE specialty dining!!!! No 20% service charges either.

My be this will serve to correct some misconceptions about the other cruise lines.

In addition, Princess gives me a free bar set up that also doesn't have 20% fees added .

Tell me again how much better NCL is than the other cruise lines.

  3. Well, I love my Platinum perks... it always amazes me that some will kick a gift horse in the mouth no matter what is being given as a gift.

I didn't consider it a gift. It was an enticement to get me to,continue sailing with NCL, and I don't like them to take it away.

The silliness of their actions is that I can get as many items as I want at the buffet or MDR.

  4. er how much can you eat?

we are usually stuffed after app and entrée very rarely have room for dessert

I have had no trouble eating soup, escargot, entree, and dessert.

However, I was given the meals as a perk for cruising NCL, and they have cheapened the meal by taking the wine and one of my favorite items away.

NCL saves a dollar or more, and I have saved much more than that by booking on other cruise lines.

When I do cruise on NCL, I curtail my spending more than the amount they have taken away

  5. Hello. Have never sailed NCL before and looking at a few sail dates on the Sun in March. Seems there is a deal where you get free unlimited bar? Also can someone tell me what the tips are per person, per day? Have a message to my travel agent for a price and answers....But know that Cruise Critic peeps are quicker to answer :).

NCL price is $89 per person per day for drinks up to $15. If you get the ubp as a booking perk, you will pay a 20% gratuity or service charge on the price of the ubp. That is $17.80 per person per day for the length of the cruise.

If you order drinks that are priced over $15, you pay the difference plus the 20%.

  6. We recently made,a transfer to PEV from POM using QLS (Quality Limo Service). We,were planning to use Uber when a rep from QLS offered to take us for less than Uber. We went in the van with some people going to FLL and stopped there to let them off, then proceeded to the port. We had plenty of time and the trip was good.

Check with QLS to see if they will do this the opposite direction if you want to save some money.

  7. You used to be able to order multiple apps or desserts as well. For example I sometimes have the soup plus escargot. Before they went a la carte that was all included, but now we have to pay for the soup (if they bother charging it).

Those restrictions are senseless in my opinion, because I can go to the buffet and MDR and eat what I want.

I interpret the restrictions( along with other changes) as managements way of telling me they don't want my business since I am platinum.

It is working since I have greatly reduced the number of cruises I book with NCL.

  8. There is no restriction compared to the past Le Bistro perk. It's been the SAME 1 entree, starter and desert for years. They've now added more choices, which I think is a benefit. I've been platinum for about 15 years- when 14 cruises qualified you, and sail about every month.

That is not correct. For years, I ordered and received the same items every cruise, but after the changes under the new administration, I was told I would be charged if I ordered those same items.

  9. Is Victor's closed/gone now? Last time we were there, he spent some time visiting with us. He sounded beaten down, and still working on recovering from Randi's death :(

As to vendors, we don't find the vendors on Stone Island pushy, at all.

The last few times I have been there, Victors was not open.

I was told by a local that he has been drinking heavily. Don't know if that is true, but could explain his absence.

  10. I reported mold recently on another NCL ship and it took them three days to correct the problem.

I question their concern about correcting guest reported problems.

I ran short of patience on the third day and insisted they do something.

The short version is I could have fixed it myself in about ten minutes if I had the materials and tools.

  11. Remember, the minimum-wage people screening luggage don't care about anything you tape to your bag. They have to screen thousands of bags and if they see any liquids, they will just pull the bag and send it to the naughty room. You then will spend a [long] while on your first night waiting in line with all the other people with contraband waiting to get your bag out of security.

That is not the way all questionable bags are handled. See my previous post.

  12. I am looking for recommendations for excursions out of Limon. Most that I seem to find require a 2 hour drive to get there. I would like something closer to port...anyone have any suggestions?

Look at the tours that are.offered by the ship and other sources. Determine what interests you, make a list of your interests, then when you arrive in Limon, take the list to a taxi or van driver and make a deal.

You may have to eliminate some items due to time or distance limitations, but it will be your tour at possibly a great price.

  13. Does lety’s charge for chair rental?

Is it right on the beach?

They don't charge for chairs or lounges, but they do expect you to buy drinks or food. The tables and chairs are in the sand on the beach about 100 feet from the water

The food is very good and the beer is cold.

Google letys mazatlan for lots of pictures and info.

  14. I fully understand the concerns of the people who were on the ship during the storm because I have been in similar circumstances.

    Was I scared? No

    Was I concerned? Very much!!

The water blew out a window of an oceanview room on the deck I was on, and water came within about 50 feet of my cabin. The people who were in the cabin came out with dripping night clothes and life vests.

After the crew and security handled the situation, I went to get coffee, and the water from the pool was splashing up to the sliding roof. Water from the ocean was going over the top of that roof.

I held the table with one hand and my coffee cup with the other.

I have no time for those who try to make light of the terror voiced by those who experienced the storm, and also think it was foolish of the person who made the decision to take those people into the storm.

Did I take pictures? Hell no!!

  15. Never put containers of liquid in checked bags.

X-ray will pick up the liquid and the bag will not be delivered to your cabin since they have to verify it is not alcohol. Your presence is needed for them to open your bag so you will get a note telling you which room to meet them in. Referred to on cc as 'naughty room' since alcohol smugglers are caught there.

My bag arrived with a note inside, so they opened it without me being there.

    Policies are not uniformly enforced.

  16. We checked ours, and it didn't arrive with the other bags. I advised the service desk people and they told me I had to wait until after 8pm before they would check on it.

I was not happy with that after following all their rules to get permission to take a dietary supplement onboard.

  17. As a note regarding PVSA (which I know is not the main topic of the thread) that I just thought of, if the USCG does not allow the Grandeur to sail from PC until further repairs are made, then I think they could terminate the cruise and disembark everyone without a fine.

And crookedhalo, yes, tugs are built for power (pushing/pulling) and are not speed demons.

Kp -- The NCL thread closed. Google NCL Star power failure investigation for the link you requested.

  18. It would be interesting to see how many cruises combined by all cruise lines sail each year, along with how many engine hours and nautical miles that encompasses. It must be remembered that these vessels for the most part, barring very short refits/dry docks in some years, are running 24/7/365.

It is inevitable that systems are going to break down.

The statistics would be impossible to assemble since the cruise lines are not required to report incidents or figures to a central governing body.

The stats I found were from several different sources.
