you can add or subtract any person to a reservation as long as the stateroom can hold the required amount of passengers , and you change the reservation before the final payment is due

As stated by numerous people.....stateroom capacity is part of the equation but the lifeboat capacity for that assigned muster station is equally important in capacity.

  2. I think one of the surprises I've encountered as an organizer is how many people who commit their room and then are no shows to the meet & greet. As the organizer, I solicit people of different categories and get a ship deck plan to map it out to minimize walking, crowded venue areas etc and also to accommodate those who may need elevators.  I get volunteering your cabin is a big deal but remember that other people are counting on that room .... so don't be a jerk and just blow it off - let the organizer know at least so they can make arrangements

My husband and I can now get on. Weird, it started last night and into this morning. But now it seems fine Thank You

Typical maintenance for computer servers etc take place overnight Saturday to Sunday when most operations are closed, etc. This will happen for NCL, your bank, your favorite department store, etc.

But it did expire before it was used, NCL was generous extended it already.

but the opportunity to actually use the certificate prior to it expiring was not given to the individual.....   the consumer clearly met all terms of the voucher by booking a cruise prior to it expiring but NCL did not provide the service for the actual voucher.

NCL runs a promo for an opportunity to book a Studio for $100 for a 7 day cruise..... you jump on this great opportunity and buy 5 of them.  A week after the promo they announce that all Studios, across the fleet, are being replaced with volleyball courts by Dec 31, 2020 but they also make the announcement they will have no sailings before Jan 1, 2021...... NCL is not sailing so there is no opportunity to book that Studio prior to the conversion so do you expect a refund?

Same thing with CruiseNext Certificates that were purchased and no opportunity to use them.

I'm normally a NCL cheerleader but these CruiseNext Certificates either have to be put back in the account with a 1 year extension (dated from the day NCL goes to 80% operation) or refund the $125.

Cruise next certificates have an expiration date. What was the actual expiration date of the certificates?

For example, I have one that expires December of 2020, I booked a cruise for November of 2021 and requested that they be extended as payment for that cruise. NCL permitted that. They made me aware that if I cancel that November 2021 cruise after December of this year, they will go away. It's the same situation if you just didn't use the cert, they're worthless after their expiration date.

I think you're missing the point....   You're example is not what happened to the OP...  You're example is if "you" cancel.... then absolutely you should lose the certificate but the OP was cancelled by NCL and this should be extended at a minimum until NCL is fully operational.

I have memberships to a gym, a movie theater, etc that expired during the government mandated closure...... each and every membership was extended the exact amount of time they were closed.  Heck, even states are extending expired licenses and vehicle registrations because they were shut down.

Granted, everything is fluid and crazy but scolding someone for having 4 (or 5) years to use is not the best way to talk about this.  I have a stash of them (buy a bunch at a time) and I cruise at least 2 times a year but in 2020 where 3 were cancelled...  I am juggling the expiration dates because the ones I bought in 2017 were used for bookings in 2019, 2020, and 2021..... now I have 3 that I have to use, sell, or eat and I used them according to the T&C's that extenuating circumstances beyond my (and NCL's) control penalize me.

Lesson learned.....by 2 at a time at most.

    That's It ??

Yes, but remember it is a cancel and rebook...... this means your stateroom goes back into inventory for the couple minutes it takes to start the booking of the new reservation and there is a chance (very very slight but still a chance) you may lose that specific stateroom ...... so, something to be aware of if you have you heart set on that particular stateroom.

It's not something I do, nor encourage, just letting someone know thier rights.

If it's a promo, which is the OP's question, there are no rights to be concerned about..... seems your post was to stir the DSC frenzy. IMHO

Don't forget, that Daily Service Charge is "Discretionary", so what they are offering to cover is something that you do not have to pay anyhow, totally optional.

    well that didn't take long........

I did cancel.  NCL gave us a choice.  I guess the 3rd was to wait and see if they cancelled.  If you had a cruise during this March-April time period, there was so much information presented each day.  I guess the 3 choices were (1) you cancel and get cash refund (2) you cancel and get a 125% FCC (3) you do nothing and wait for NCL to cancel or cruise.   I needed to present the timeline to the NCL rep.  The NCL rep that helped me was phenominal!  Now, I just wait for the refund.

Now I'm thoroughly confused..... many many people on here report that the choice for FCC or Refund was only for those who waited and NCL cancelled. If you pulled the trigger first and inside any penalty window - you're on the hook for penalties and no FCC / Refund choice.

    Am I misunderstanding this?

    Has anyone else seen this?

DH & I had a cruise booked in September to New England and Canada. Cruise was canceled and we got the letter (via email) saying we could pick FCC or a refund and the form would go live on 7/6/2020. So we planned on waiting until then to make a final decision. Today I got an email from NCL that says they have applied the FCC (125%) to my account. No mention of the option of a refund. No mention of a policy change. The link they sent out initially that mentioned the refund just goes to a 404 error page, but I didn't figure on that link being live until refunds were available.

I am going to try and contact NCL about this but I recognize that may be an uphill battle.

Yes, if you read any of the gazillion threads concerning the FCC / refund ..... it was discussed ad nauseum

Not really. Refunds being processed = zero.

You really don't pay attention do you......  there are many threads / posts here where refunds have not only been processed but actually received..... and you've been around here long enough to know that the Cruise Critic community is such a small percentage of the entire cruise community so even those who have not received the refund and posted here is not a true sample.

not to mention the post immediately after your's clearly contradicted your statement

My family of 5 had a cruise planned with NCL for March 15 that was cancelled. After numerous calls to them and their Customer Service they finally told us we would be refunded our money ($10k) but it would take 90 days! The 90 days are up, no refund, and phone #s I had been contacting are out of service. NCL promised the the refund and all I get are calls and emails asking if I want to book future cruises at big discounts! Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone actually received a refund from NCL? Does anyone have a valid phone # that has worked for you that I can call? Thx much for your feedback!

There are about as many threads on Cruise Critic (not just NCL) as there are refunds being processed..... spend some time looking and you will have lots and lots of company waiting for refunds.

The person you quoted isn't saying that it's permanent, they're just questioning the "soon" part of your statement.  What's your definition of "soon"?  1 day?  1 week?  1 Month?  2 months?

It's a fluid environment we are in so it could be 1 week or 2 months but certainly waaaaay before their kids passport expires

The US State Department Level 4 Do Not Travel notice will be lifted soon? It will? Source?

Please provide your source that the Level 4 is permanent and the sky is falling and we should all be paralyzed in fear and stop living.

Businesses, City, Town, state, US Government agencies, NHL, etc are beginning to open up systematically...... that is my source: common frickin sense

No they expire in Oct 21. To travel you need 6 months. So come next April they will have effectively expired for any actual travel. So if it is taking months to get renewed need to apply now.

Nope.... the 6 month requirement is based on the country you are visiting.  For example, you can travel to Canada, Bermuda, Mexico, Caribbean with a valid passport on the date of entry (months not required). Always read the requirements for the host country.

The reason it's taking months now is because of a pandemic and government services are not working at full capacity.  Read the posts in this thread where pre-shutdown renewal turnaround was weeks not months.

Actually US Dept of State should just stop issuing passports (aside from life/death cases) while a global level 4 advisory is in place. My kids passports run out in Oct 2021 so that will be a fun one for us as well soon.

So, your advocating no international travel at all for the foreseeable future .....  Based on that, your kids passports expire in 16 months......  why are you projecting "fun" for something so far out???

Get their passport photos done now and submit their renewal now.......I have confident they will be processed by 2024 when you will feel comfortable travelling again.😀

Can someone explain the desperate need for a passport renewal outside of a family death? Latest travel advisory is still this:

The Department of State currently has in place a ‘Level 4: Global Health Advisory,” which advises that U.S. citizens avoid all international travel because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This means most travel insurances won't even cover you if you did travel.

I see talk of people wanting to go to the Caribbean or Dominican Republic? Did they have a death in the family there? You can still get passports for those events.

Actually the reason is pretty simple.....

The advisory etc will be lifted soon and international travel will be allowed. If everyone follows your reasoning and they choose to do nothing because there's an "advisory"...... there will be a ginormous backlog of applications and potential issues for future travel (Canada is considered international as well).

That's why I applied for the Global Entry during the COVID shutdown - because while everyone was freaking out about hoarding toilet paper I took care of things. I have a July TTP interview because no one was paying attention and now the wait is out to December. I'm not travelling anytime soon but it will have been done and I'm not freaking out about expediting or not having it in time.

You don't run out to get batteries as a storm is approaching for power loss..... you get them on a sunny day when you don't need them.

That is for new applicants. A Global Entry renewal might or might not need an interview. For Global Entry they will take renewal applications a year or less before the expiration date. If you have an expiring GE go ahead and do your renewal application if you are a year or less out. I did my renewal application last week and my renewal was approved the next day without needing an interview. My new expiration date is five years from the old expiration date.

Correct, that's why I said interviews are suspended and not applications or renewals are suspended.

Also, the great state of NY has passed legislation that now prevents TPP from being applied for or renewed (something to do with privacy and the security background check being too invasive)

  19. Just add since this thread is not exclusive to cruising.....  Homeland Security had suspended interviews for the Trusted Traveler Program (Global Entry, TSA Pre-check, etc) until July 6th.  Since there aren't alot of interview locations, the earliest appointments in CT, RI or MA are in December.

So I would expect similiar type delays in processing renewals of passports.

People like throwing this around when it wouldn't apply, don't they?

PVSA would only apply on a B2B (such as a recent example of someone sailing on the final Alaska cruise that ends in Vancouver then taking the same ship from Vancouver to Hawaii) if the cruises are on the same ship and the B2B cruisers embark the first cruise in one US port and debark the second cruise in another US port.

In the case of the OP - they're changing ships, 2 distinct cruises (even 2 different cruise LINES).  PVSA would not apply.  I believe people actually prefer the term S2S rather than B2B because the passenger is changing ships.

I literally had this exact response as I was reading the thread but you said it much better.
