  1. Spoke to Bahia Mar a few days ago. They advised, I believe, that the Marina rooms/building were undergoing renovations and that floors 4, 3, and I think 2 were finished. This building renovations were supposed to be finished by November of 2015. But they did seem to indicate that renovations in the tower rooms and lobby would not start until May 2016 and they did not have at this time any idea of when they would be finished.

  2. Just went on a land/sea tour of Alaska. The weather is changeable not merely by the day, but sometimes by the hour. I would suggest small travel umbrella, and at least something water resistant. Also good to have would be layers like long sleeve, short sleeve base and sweatshirt, etc. On our trip we were at Glacier Bay with rain and cold, but someone we know was there next day with short sleeves to enjoy the sunny and warmer temperatures.

  3. Thanks for those who liked my cruise review. I too am glad that our wine issue was resolved once we returned. To those of you who have not cruised to Alaska yet, please try to do this. As I mentioned Princess did an outstanding job of our land portion. And as a bonus we had a great cruise from Whittier to Vancouver...Seeing all of the natural beauty is something that I will always treasure.

  4. I had wanted to edit my review of the Grand Princess on an Alaskan Land/Sea trip. But either I could not find out how to do this or once a review is written and submitted it cannot be modified. While most of my review dealt with the Great Land/See experience I did highlight a few issues that detracted from our vacation. At least I can update on this forum and hopefully those who read the forum can also take a look at my cruise review so they get a complete picture of our service experience.

Our wine issue appears to be resolved so that Princess Customer Relations has agreed to send us the amount of money that my review mentioned. While I still believe that our onboard experience was not a good one, Customer Relations has now done the right thing. If I had found a way to update my review I would have done so and I hope that by using this forum my experience with Princess will be more clearly shown.

  5. We have taken a number of cruises including ones on Princess. We enjoy sea days where we can find them. It is a nice break from a port intensive itinerary. And it is a great way to relax when those days come together like on a transatlantic voyage. Assuming that both the 7 and 10 day journeys give you the same number of days in Alaska, I would vote for the 10 day. As far as weather I would think it is really hard to predict based upon past sailing experiences. If you are sensitive try to find a cabin on a lower deck or towards midships. Also take any of a number of medications to prevent this condition from happening. You might look at the review section of Cruise Critic to get a better idea of the ships that you are comparing.

  6. Thanks again for your update Budget Queen! Our Princess excursion (Whale Watching and Wildlife) leaves in the morning at 7:45 and returns to the ship at 11:45. Our plan was then to have lunch at Tracy's, look at a few stores nearby and then return to Grand Princess.

  7. About 20 years ago my wife and i went on an Inside Passage R/T Cruise. Left from Vancouver. We added about 3 more days and we toured Vancouver and Victoria. The touring before cruise was hectic, but worth it. We loved Victoria and though tired went on to a great Alaska Cruise.

Will be leaving soon for a Princess Land Tour going from North to South. I chose this because we wanted a cruise to sort of relax after a busy land tour portion.

I suggest that you look at the guidebooks that others have mentioned and then keep reviewing reports on Cruise Critic in this Alaska Forum. I would also use TripAdvisor to see what interests you on the land portion and again the places you will stop on the cruise.

  8. Thanks Budget Queen. I am hoping that it turns out to be AJ dock. Then per your information there will be a shuttle doing a loop. With a stop at the tram we will be a lot closer to our goal of trying Tracy's King Crab place. Also with a drop off at the tram after our morning excursion that too will be close to Tracy's. I understand that a drop-off is not guaranteed, but I again will hope that does happen.

Again thanks for your help and that of all the responders to my original question.

  9. Thanks to all for your response to my request for getting from where the Grand Princess Docks on Wed July 29, 2015. I too had found the schedule for ships in Juneau and the reference to the AJ Dock. The responses that showed me a photo of where each Dock is located made it very clear to me just how that dock is from where we are trying to get to (Tracy's King Crab Shack)

Before reading the group of responses I did call Princess and they confused me a bit as they said the Grand would be at the Franklin or City Dock. Also when I asked about a shuttle in terms of where it goes from the AJ dock they said there was no shuttle let alone telling me if the shuttle ran to Tracy's. And of course since they said there was no shuttle they did not give me a cost.

But again I think that I do have a plan from what your helpful responses highlight. I will check on the Grand about the particulars of the shuttle in Juneau. I will also look at being dropped off there as we end our Whale Watching and Wildlife Tour at around 11:45 am. If possible that will save us any issues at least one way. i also have phone number for Yellow Cab should we decide to go that route.

Thanks again for taking the time to make this port a better experience for both my wife and myself.

  10. My wife and I arrive In Juneau July 29, 2015 on the Grand Princess. Not sure where we dock. My wife will have a scooter rental on board, but did not plan to use it in town. Is there transportation available from where the ship docks. Given that my wife has some mobility issues I am interested in finding out if Princess provide a shuttle. Also what the cost for transport might be.

    Plan for Day In Juneau

In the morning we have a ship excursion Whale Watching And Wildlife tour. I assume that the excursion will offer pick up at our pier. Perhaps on the way back from the tour we could get a drop off at our planned luncheon spot.

I was looking forward to also having lunch at Tracy's King Crab. And maybe doing some light shopping at nearby stores. If a shuttle is offered by Princess that would be great. if not any other ideas for getting around.

How far might the dock be to our planned luncheon/shopping location? If not too far we could try to walk with lots of rest stops, but I don't want to push this if it will be too difficult.

  11. I believe we will be at the Ore Dock. Sorry that I called it a bridge (not one in the sense of a large bridge carrying cars) But I believe that the instructions were to

proceed to the red weather shelter located across the footbridge in the parking lot next to the cruise ship. Anyway just wondering how far that red shelter might be from the cruise dock itself.

  12. We are using Chilkoot Charters for a tour in Skagway. We were told that on the Grand Princess we have to walk over a pedestrian bridge to a red weather shack. Does this sound correct? How far a walk might this be once off the ship? Any map/photos of the shack?

  13. We have tried Vintages and 150 Central Park. Both were excellent restaurants. 150 was small portions, but great tastes. Room was very formal. Vintages looks inside like a living room. A tapas menu with lots of interesting choices. My wife and I shared a combo type meal. We have been back twice on our cruise and enjoyed both times. Outside was on the warm side, while inside comfortable, but for us the couch/chair seating was not all that comfortable.

  14. Thanks to all for taking the time to respond. I enjoyed all of your comments and I loved your pictures. All I can say is Oh My! I can't wait till this summer. Whether captured in a photo or in my mind this will be a trip to remember!

  15. I just took a quick glance at a July 25 Itinerary on the Grand Princess. Earlier it showed Hubbard Glacier, but now it shows Yakutat Bay. The map makes it look Yaktutat Bay is further away from Hubbard Glacier. Does anyone know why Princess changed the location name and if we will still cruise close to Hubbard? I do realize that the Glacier is enormous so maybe we don't really lose seeing it.
