  1. As far as a cruise port in MHC. WOW wouldn't that be nice? lol But could u imagine the traffic over the bridges on hwy 70? It would be a pure headache for the residents of MHC and Beaufort trying to cross the bridges. They just don't have enough roads in that area to accommodate the traffic. They would have to build a few more escape roads from MHC and Beaufort. As much as I would like to have a cruise port here, I think Wilmington would make a better choice.

On Radio Island, there is plenty of room for parking, and plenty of things for tourists to do, prior to cruising. The port is underutilized.

As for Wilmington, the infrastructure is present, but would be overcrowded. Another issue would be the transit time from the port to the sea lanes. Cruise lines want to get out past that three mile limit as soon as they can to open casino and shops. Transit down the Cape Fear, in addition to taking time and fuel, also takes the ship past Sunny Point military port, which transships ammunition and other military materials, thus requiring a more robust security requirement for the cruise line and the military port.

  2. We booked the January 18 cruise. Figured kids would all be back in school and the demand reduced. We've seen the prices increase, so glad we paid when we did.

As for the ability to do so being the only ship nearby for many of us, that's essentially the same point I've tried to make with NC DOT and the planners...that if they build a cruise port on Radio Island near Morehead, that the tourist industry here will make a BOOM, seeing as to how relatively easily the Radio Island terminal can be built. That places ships about 5 miles form the sea lanes, so they'd be able to save fuel getting into the sea lanes.

  3. was riotously funny and entertaining. We made it a point to hit the piano bar nightly when he was there. Great crowds, baudy entertainment, and the wait staff was super busy. I'd say that Larry was able to offer Carnival happy cruisers and the bar made serious coin as well.

We're hoping Larry will be with us on our Jan 18th cruise.

  4. Do it! Once you go balcony.... you'll never go back!!!

    Bob

YMMV. for us, not true.....we've gone balcony and done inside. While balcony was nice, it just didn't seem to have the draw for the coin. For as little time as we are in the cabin, we've chosen inside, and used the not inconsequential savings elsewhere.

I'll agree that a balcony experience is wonderful, especially the breakfast on one's small sliver of semi privacy...and to be enjoyed. Been there, did that, got the t-shirt. Again, YMMV.

  5. As a minister, I often have couples who are going away on a honeymoon and run into this issue. After the ceremony, and before I return the licenses, I make an unofficial copy for the couple to take, just in case there are any questions.

Since you have some time, I would contact whatever office in your local jurisdiction that maintains vital records, and obtain from them a certified copy. Certified copies have the weight of legal evidence behind them.

    Good Luck!

  6. We're VIFPs who usually sail out of Fl. Decided to try Charleston this year. having not spent any time in Chas since the early 80s, I want to thank everyone who has contributed for the wealth of info.

As of now, we're looking t staying at Patriot's Pt and grabbing a taxi to/from terminal.

It's 73 days and about 6 hours before we sail. :)

  7. I'm with you Redsox. The gluten free options sound good on paper, but are hardly ever easy (or fully understood by ship staff) in practice.

With all due respect, I must strongly disagree with your statement.

We sailed for a Carnival Christmas-New Years cruise aboard Valor. We communicated the need for GF options with Carnival a couple of months in advance, and were assured it would all be fine.

As soon as we boarded, we met the Maitre D' at our dining room and reiterated the GF need. MD brought over the DR Manager. She explained that the evening meal would gave GF options for our DD. Every night, she'd bring the next night's menu for DD to make her selections. Even our table waiters were dialed in, as they asked the first night, if there was anything else GF that DD needed. She got fresh baked Rice flour bread ever dinner.

Carnival may not have gone out of there way to accommodate us, but we felt that they crewed and staffed the ship just for us.

Although Mom and I have cruised several times, on Carnival, RCI, and NCI this was her first. And the service Carnival provided cemented Carnival as the GO TO Cruise line for us.

We've found that early and often communication, with allowing as much flexibility as we could makes the situation easier to arrange.

    Carnival....and loving it!

  8. I don't know how this got to be such a popular song played on the cruise ships but "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Chariman of the Board is heard often on many ships. And it is a great beach version of the song.

To the question about on line radio stations which play "vacation" songs...the Endless Summer Network plays some really great beach music!

    Seabee,

No Embers, Tams, Drifters, or Catalina...If you're gonna intro Beach Music, at least mention Ripete records....

    Port Hueneme ring a bell?
