  1. I guess dollar store to the rescue for a tray to balance out our coffee to our room on our last morning. We've always looked forward to that pot on debarkation morning. It gave us a chance to finish the packing and all that good stuff. Bags packed, room inspection for forgotten goods.
The no breakfast on debarkation morning is the part I like the least, but understand the most. I'd prefer to be able to get breakfast in my room while I finish packing, getting ready, etc. and not have to schlep around all of my bags to a dining room or to the Lido.

On the other hand, I can see where that is extremely time-consuming and making a lot more demands on the crew to have to deliver breakfast on the changeover day. Plus, I'm sure it prompts more people to stay in their rooms longer than if they had gone to breakfast.

We usually pick up our son at 10 p.m. from the kids club, then get a snack or dessert. We only used room service once or twice on our last cruise for this, because there were still options on the Lido to grab on my way down to our room. That said, I hope they do expand what is available at that time for self service if room service is a charge option now. I'd actually rather grab it myself than have to wait an hour and fight falling asleep or have my son disturbed because he's already out.

  2. Just got an upsell offer for the Horizon to move from a balcony on 8 to the 1st one thru the doors on 11, for $34. While convenient, I can only imagine how incredibly loud and active it would be.

Does anyone know if I turn it down, will that prevent them from offering future offers on this sailing?

  3. Definitely email the maitre'd for your ship about a week ahead of time and request a table for just your party. Also email special needs and advise you need the special needs muster.

As far as pb&j, you can get it day or night, it's even on the room service menu. As far as nuggets, I know my son got them a couple of times on our last trip, they actually seemed kinda fresh, not like the Tyson or Perdue ones.

With regard to the kids club, you may want to mention that if you email special needs as well. They should let him attend, but they may call you if your son needs assistance with the potty.

Best of luck, and I hope he loves it!!

  4. Lunch at the Taste Bar is very good, and you can eat while trivia and such is going on. They had an extensive salad bar, soup, rolls, turkey wraps, chips and salsa, chicken fingers and 1 or 2 hot dishes. Perfect for my family!

Try to sit on the sides or in the balcony in the theater vs on the floor, and be mindful of poles and sightlines.

The crew is truly wonderful, they really made the trip awesome.

  5. We are going to cruise with our 1 year old. He loves the water but carnival says no on him swimming because of his swim diapers. How do I solve he problem on letting him play in the water like his older brother. We are going on the triamph
Google 'tips to potty train a 1 year old', or pick another cruise line and ship that offers diaper-friendly splash areas. Or, engage him in other activities while your older child uses the pool.

I have a 5 year old, so diaper days aren't that far behind me. We just avoided locations that weren't diaper appropriate rather than try to circumvent the rules; it wasn't hard.

I'm sorry, I usually try to be helpful on here if I respond, and not pile on, but things like this give all parents of young children a bad name, and I work hard to raise my son to be respectful of rules and others. I also always try to avoid 'mommy shaming', because you never know what's going on with a family, but this is just trying to get around the rules, and that's not cool.

  6. JMO, but I would sail the Horizon over the Pride anytime. As you say, it'll have that brand new cachet, and you'll enjoy "discovering" the ship for the 1st time. You save drive time and pre cruise hotel. Any kinks about the crew or services should be ironed out while it's in the Med, prior to coming to NY. At least that was how we found the Vista to be last Thansgiving sailing from NY.

And I may be snobbish about this, but I think the best embarkation sailaway that I've ever done is easing down the Hudson past the NY Skyline and Lady Liberty, can't be beat!.

Welllllll...I switched us today, and we're on the same sailing as you! We're actually super psyched! And yeah, sailing out of NYC is awesome!2a609197011f0d3c81b7b0e28c685a5f.jpg

  7. Hey all, we are currently booked on the Pride in April. Well, it turns out the recital for the spring session of my son's acting class is scheduled for when we are supposed to be on the trip (later than usual because they miss a lot of classes due to spring break and the Friday before President's Day apparently?).

Anyway, we were actually toying with the idea of switching to the Horizon in late May before the scheduling issue. The other things that were making us think about it are that we'd be sailing out of N.Y. again, and would be able to avoid the drive and overnight stay the night before (we're in NJ), it is 8 nights vs 7, and the new ship appeal.

The cons are the size of the ship is a little larger than we're used to, and it's about $1200 more than our current booking. Also not sure if there are new ship/crew 'kinks' to consider (any thoughts on this)?

Neutral on the change in itinerary. Right now we're scheduled for Princess Cay, Grand Turk and Freeport. New itinerary (as of now) is San Juan, Grand Turk and Amber Cove. My son actually prefers pools to the ocean so I'm ok with the Amber Cove vs Princess Cay change, and we weren't planning on getting off the ship in Freeport. Depending on what's going on with SJ by then would obviously dictate what we did, but I'd be interested in researching after cruises resume if people are doing any kind of charitable things on their stops.

So, anything I'm not considering? Any thoughts and opinions are appreciated!

  8. I've never experienced either, but if I had the opportunity, I'd do the B2B, especially because you'll be traveling with you 7 yr old. I know my son at least would love the familiarity of the ship and the crew (esp in the kids club). Plus, if you can keep your cabin, all the better, less stress!

  9. Going on the Sunshine Dec 23rd for our first Christmas cruise! I'm a big Bloody Mary person so i'm looking for any tips on if certain bars are better to order them at or any advice at all!

    Thanks!

I feel bad that I can't remember his name, but the older, very kind gentleman at the atrium bar made a great Bloody Mary. He also made great dirty martinis and vodka/sodas.

  10. On our recent Sunshine cruise, the milk in cartons was not whole, 2% maybe? Not sure what my son was given in the MDR.

We did not find that mac and cheese was available every night in the MDR.

The fridge in our room was not cool enough to keep milk cold. I had stored a carton and gave it to my son. The container felt cool to the touch, but he took one sip and gave it back; it was not cold, but not warm. We did keep the cabinet door open too.

  11. I don't have a schedule for the Dream, but the camp doesn't close for lunch on sea days. However, they will ask you to come pick up and feed your child at some point.

They may close at some point during the afternoon for a family activity that an adult must attend with the child.

  12. I always travel with my DD (now 11), she is my travel partner and I enjoy experiencing our adventures together. My boys are now 26 and 28 and live in different states. I long for those days of traveling with them too.

Judging from all the responses here...I am the oddball :):)

I actually LOVE traveling with my son (soon to be 5 yrs old). He's a great little travel buddy, he loves going on 'eventures'. It's the everyday routine and its accompanying 'struggles' that makes me wish for the break!

  13. I've been there! In fact, I booked a solo trip to WDW for a weekend this coming Dec but chickened out that night, while I could still cancel my airfare without penalty.

I did have a girls' weekend last January, my son and house are still in one piece, and my husband didn't go screaming into the night when I got home, so I consider it a win!

I know everyone is saying go, and I agree if you know your little will be in good hands, but just know that I totally get what you're feeling!

  14. I had to giggle when Carnival called the day before we left on our cruise. My husband answered and he had this look on his face like, what's going on? The PVP was looking to speak to Kevin. My husband was like, sure you can speak to him... but he's 4. Even after being told that, they've called twice more!

  15. Funny story, after reading this yesterday, I realized I didn't sign up my son for an account; I thought it was assigned after the first sailing. So, I went on the website and signed him up, no problem.

Fast forward to today and the phone rings. My husband answers and has a weird look on his face. He's like, what is this in reference to? Then, is like, well you can talk to him, but he's 4...

A PVP already called to see if she could assist my son with booking his next cruise! She also sent him an email to my email address! I guess they're so eager for new 'blood', they don't take note of key facts like age. [emoji23]

  16. ugh, a few of those 'spaghetti strands' are headed right where I will be up in CA! Way too early to tell, and it doesn't really say when it would reach that far (the cone on the nhc website doesn't project that far out), but we don't get back to NY til the 9th!
