  1. First time visit to STX and looking for fun, low key beach bar within a short walking distance. Am I reading correctly that Freedom City Beach Bar is an option? Looks from their website that they do not open until 11am. Does that sound accurate Drake? We get into port at 8am so will need to find something else to do before they open. (And is it best to walk along the beach or the road to get there?)

Any other options for a fun beach bar? :D

  2. I hope they have it ready for the Sunshine by Feb.! I looked yesterday in the app store and saw BREEZE HUB as the only choice. I guess each ship will have its own app to download just wish they would use actual dates. Instead of by the end of the year.

I guess they don't want guest expecting it by a set day and then not having it. Many know how flexible construction deadlines are I guess they want to protect themselves from that by saying end of the year.

I just downloaded the app and it is already available on the Sunshine. :)

  3. Dang! I got excited for a minute! I was really hoping that the app would be working for our July 5 cruise. :(

So sorry...I got conflicting info! I called Carnival to switch my cabin for my December cruise and asked the question again. Breeze is the only one currently with it available. They will be rolling it out to "other ships" over "the next 24 months" but there is no further info on which ships or on what schedule.

BOO. That was something pretty cool about our November cruise on NCL.

With the recent refurb of Sunshine I'm surprised they didnt add it. Fingers crossed for that one...cuz I'm not holding out hope they do it for the Victory in August. *Shrugs*

  4. You apparently don't read CC very often. ;)

This was not rude in any stretch of the imagination. Everybody has their own preferences, from types of food they like, to types of entertainment options, to types of people they enjoy being around. Simply stating such a fact is not rude at all. Not sure why you think stating one's preferences is rude or "holier than thou".

I don't go to biker bars because these are frequented by people I don't care to spend time with. I don't go to religious revival meetings for the same reason. I guess stating this is being rude as well?

I am on CC all the time and have been for years. There are places I wont go to either, I just don't announce it in such a fashion as to put others down.

  5. Yet one more reason to never step foot on a Royal Caribbean ship again. Some of the people that line attracts are simply not people we care to cruise with.

Wow. Can't say I've seen a more rude and "holier than thou" comment ever used on CC.

The bubble over my head is saying much more, but unlike the author of this comment, I'll show some class and keep my comments to myself.

  6. we have sailed the aft many times. and never experienced this.

what ship was this> Were you low to the water?

Hi Serene! We sailed together a few years back :)

This was on the NCL Epic - we were on deck 10, so no, not close to the water. I had read a few mixed reviews about this loudness but other people did not comment on it so we took a chance. Will never do it again!

  7. Sorry of I am being thick, but what do you mean "Niagara Falls"? What was the noise going from. I am having images of pool water coming over the edge:)

So incredibly LOUD that you cannot talk...Not water spraying on you, the noise from the props/engine/water behind the ship. It's like you're standing near a large waterfall.

  8. First time on NCL (and most likely last), and first time in an aft balcony cabin (10317). Wanted to try something completely different...

Let me just say NIAGARA FALLS! Seriously. It is so incredibly loud back there, that we really could not even carry on a conversation.

If you enjoy sitting out on the balcony (who doesn't!?) avoid these cabins.

  9. Just off the Imagination - we had cabine U153 which happened to adjoin with U155.

I dont know if it was just the RUDE passengers next to us, but the sound through the adjoining door was insanely LOUD.

We heard every word they said. We heard them have sex. We heard their damned TV on all day, every day.

We asked to switch cabins and were turned down. We finally changed the bed's orientation so our heads were against the other wall...of course this meant the TV was over our heads so we couldnt watch it.

It did "help" the noise level, but still not enough to drown it out.

AVOID this cabin unless you are with the party next door and you know they're not loud idiots!

  10. John Heald has said many times that the maitre d is not obligated to respond to these mails. Any special requests that are made prior to embarkation should be made through him.

No, I'm sure they're not...but my personal experiences have been:

    Maitre'D = 100

    John H = 0

    I'll keep emailing the maitre'd.

  11. I ditto the above. A few cruises back I reached out to JH for Chef's Table - *crickets chirping*. Never heard back.

I emailed the Maitre'D directly and bam, instant reservation.

Follow up: Emailed the Maitre'D directly for our next cruise and less than 12 hours later I had my reservation.

  12. Oh MY!

OP. never use a middle man. Go direct to the source, and email the MD. Have never had a problem.

  13. That's an awesome success story!! I wish I could find (well have someone find and return) my big diamond out of my wedding band that I lost on our Sun cruise a few weeks ago. :( It's like finding a needle in a haystack though. So, I'm pretty sure I'll never see it again.

    OH NO...that really sucks. :(

btw...I read a bunch of your reviews prior to our trip.

  14. Couldn't easily find a thread on this already but wanted to share a quick kudos to NCL.

We debarked the Epic on November 23. Later that afternoon at the airport I realized my Ipod was not in my bag.

The cabin steward was a little pushy getting us out of our cabin and in the rush to gather up, I somehow left the Ipod charging on the desk.

The morning after we got home I called the Lost and Found number and reported it - thinking there was no way in hell I'd ever see it again - even though it has a password on it.

Much to my delight and surprise (happy early Christmas), FedEx just delivered my Ipod. Well worth the $11.61 I was charged for the COD. I'm overjoyed to have it back again!

While our cruise and experience was not as great as we hoped it would be, I do have to give the folks at NCL a big thank you and thumbs up for a job well done.

  15. Just off the Epic and sadly they did NOT offer Chefs table on our cruise. WHAT? Oh, and beware, there is relatively no lobster to be found on this ship. WHAT?

The main dining room food is sub par and usually tasteless and cold, in hindsight we should have done UDP. Cagneys is pretty good (although Carnival's steak restaurant has it beat) and we also visited Teppanyaki.

At Cagneys we were willing to pay for another dinner to get a lobster tail...after hearing it was about a 2 oz tail and being talked out of it by the waiter, we didn't spend the $$ (they use that tail in a pasta dish). Teppanyaki has a small lobster tail as part of one of their dishes too...but if you expect to have a normal sized lobster tail as part of your normal cruise experience, you'll be disappointed as there aren't any.

If we take NCL again we'll have to do the UDP - the main dining room food is just not enjoyable.
