  1. Beware!! Do not try to take the Li-ion batteries through a Chinese airport...they have different regulations to what seems like the rest of the world! They would not allow my batteries through security even though the airline was happy to carry them. It took 3.5 stressful hours ( with our bags offloaded) to get them to seek special security clearance. They originally said I would have to leave the batteries behind.

I will be writing to Hardy about it.

  2. Scampi - not what I would call quintessentially British and yes it is found in pub lunches but mainly those that haven't changed their menus since the 1970's!! IMHO it is an evil concoction of minute pieces of scampi wrapped in yucky breadcrumbs and deep fried it is then served with equally horrible frozen chips (french fries) yuck yuck. But hey...don't knock the mushy peas they are fabby and lower the GI of the meal lol

  3. hello again folks....I'm really excited just booked TWO cruises! lol one is 7 nights Grand Princess Southampton - Scandinavia - Southampton at the end of August beginning of September. The other is 14 nights San Juan B2B in January next year - both bargains....anyone joining us?

  4. I have never seen the service there and I have checked their website ....nothing there. But one of the posters may have knowledge of it.

thanks for replying - someone on my roll call thread reminded me about the enhanced security ...so its unlikely that the secure wrapping will be available! ah well!!! lol

  5. The “Entertainment Book” is a book of coupons for 2 for 1 meals, discounts in hotels & attractions etc. The books tend to city specific and are often sold as a fund raiser by clubs and charitable organizations but can be purchased on line and in some retail establishments. They can save a person a lot of money if they use them. Here is the link to the Vancouver one. http://vancouver.entertainment.com/discount/browse.shtml?overrideLocation=N

thanks can't you tell I am a brit! lol

  6. Dollfan-- Thank you for the wonderful tips!! What is the deal with the free salmon bake? I was looking at going to Thane Ore House, but is there something else we should be doing? We are booked on Capt. Larry's whale-watching tour (accessible! woohoo!) and then I was hoping to hit the Mendenhall Glacier and the Thane Ore House dinner before we have to be back at the ship. I am a little worried about the accessible taxi situation, but will go to work on that a little closer to cruise date. But tell us about FREE salmon!

We visited the Butchart Gardens 20-ump years ago when we were a newish couple with teen boys on vacation in a 4wd-Harvester-and-teardrop-trailer (everyone survived). I think I discovered I do not have a gardening gene in my entire body, whatsoever, nada. The museum in Victoria was another story--loved it totally. And there was a women's bookstore that we visited; the women there were so wonderful... We later thought the store in "Better Than Chocolate" must have been modeled after them.

We got to get up close enough to the glacier on the Regal Princess a few years ago--I'm satisfied...

GillCC --wah! we'll miss you by a week! no fair! we're May 5th from SF.

that IS bad timing would have been nice to meet up lol - we will still be there when you sail - we have 14 nights! (a first for me) - I notice you are doing Captain Larry is that becvause it is accessible? - I use a wheelchair and am told that this is a great excursion - unfortunately we are in Juneau on a Monday and the first trip on mondays gets back at 4.30 - our ship sails at 5pm so I am worried we would be cutting it too fine!

  7. hi

can i hop onto this thread - my name is Gill and following a nasty split with my partner of 9 years (a year ago) I will be cruising with my (straight) mum on RCCL.

It would be really nice to meet up with other lesbians - for some younger company lol. Do RCCL have FOD meets? Does anyone actually go to them? Do women go to them?
