  1. I'm sailing this summer and the same thing is happening on Freedom.

I keep doing mock bookings to see if certain cabins become available, and some days I cannot book 4 pp per cabin, and some days I can....My suggestion is either call (as stated above), and if you still can't get it, keep trying every day as you never know when someone will cancel and the capacity restriction is temporarily lifted....

  2. It sounds like the TA made a mistake, which I'd be pretty bummed at...

A lot of people don't know that you can put a hold on a cabin and then transfer to a TA...this site helps to educate but posts on the subject are scattered......Quite honestly if a TA told me they were going to do it, I would have relied on them to do it and not thought for a second that they may screw up...

Not sure there is much you can do, other than ask the TA for some type of consideration for another cruise....the situation sucks...

  3. Just want to share my experience with the sale...

I canceled and rebooked for my sailing and ended with a net savings of $2,460.

My TA charged me $200 for cancelling, and I also lost my balcony discount because I used BOA Visa points for a cruise credit ($2,500). They originally gave me the balcony discount and BOA credit, but when I rebooked they took the balcony discount away as they are not combinable (so they say but it probably depends on which RCCL agent books).

Anyway it's a great sale and I'm certainly glad we are able to re-book with this one....

  4. Sounds like it was your lack of planning more than anything else. Does the cruise line need to plan for every foreseeable product than anyone of 3000 may need? Where does it end then?

Yes the cruise line should plan for things that passengers may forget.....it ends where the cruise line thinks it should....

  5. I think it should go further than just discontinuing friendship.....you could physically hurt them, or maybe somehow cause them to contract noro on the cruise...or maybe, just maybe......

JK of course, but there is nothing more you can do than communicate your opinion....maybe even a little fun teasing about it during the trip...."you removed your gratuities so you better be careful with what the dining staff brings you to eat".....

  6. Yeah, okay....

Sometimes you have to apply a little bit of logic before you ask a question. Logic dictates that there is no way that people boarding with toddlers/small children get preferential treatment if you just think it through for a second since there are cruises (summer and holidays) where kids outnumber adults onboard. There were a couple of posters who answered tongue in cheek, but this was pretty tame.

The other day I remember reading a post where someone was criticized for not doing their research before a cruise, and many commented that they poster should have come here to ask questions......so now which is it...should they ask questions here, or not....or should they only ask questions that you feel are logical...

This is the reason a lot of people don't post here....because of posters such as yourself that criticize someone for a simple question....and it is a simple question.....

  7. You may want a new travel agent ;)

All joking aside, I am not sure I would stay there. Doesn't look like a great area. It's worth spending a few extra bucks to be safe and stay somewhere else. If I did stay, I certainly wouldn't leave my car sitting there for a week.. I would pay for port parking or find a deal at one of the airport parking places with security...

You're making an assumption based on reputation of the city....Newark has good parts and bad parts, just like other cities do....you can't look at google maps and make a determination as to whether a neighborhood is safe.......

  8. I don't think the service is any different on disembarkation, it's just that many things are not open...and for good reason....RCCL wants disembarking passengers attention to be on leaving the ship, and if all shops, pools, bars, etc were open, there would clearly be a delay.....

For me, the last morning is all about getting off the ship as efficiently as possible...not for the next guests, but to get my ass home and back into the grind.....

  9. What lecture was that? You asked and were given accurate info

I agree with the OP........there was a little lecture in there.....as there is often with a message board (not just this one...you should see the Jets message boards)....people need to simply rely on RCCL to clear the ship....The OP didn't need to be told not to 'dawdle".

  10. I understand that you believe you are making the best decision for all involved but I for one would never give that much power to one person, especially someone I do not know. Remember, there are three sides to every story. You were excited enough to book Allure in the first place, and yet one post this morning made you cancel that booking based on a "may or may not ever happen" scenario. Like I said I do understand but I guess I am simply floored by your decision. Gosh... yeah.. I guess there's just nothing left to say...

EDITED to add: Having said that -

OP, I do agree with you here. Perhaps, if nothing else, your experience will change the way the Guest Assembly Drill is conducted.

    .

I have a cruise booked and this will not make me change my mind, but to each their own...I love the product RCCL provides, and this won't make me change.

However, one of the primary reasons I review these boards is to read about experiences of others, as well as recommendations as to how to avoid in the future...if there is ever a situation where myself or a family member becomes ill and I know how to handle it, I am not letting RCCL know about it.....

  11. This is a tough experience....I understand RCCLs side as they need to be safe....but on the other hand the passenger knew what was happening and simply needed RCCL to listen.....tough break.....

To the OP....you're gonna get many people on here that will be rather rude when responding....just try to ignore the rudeness and listen to some of the posters on here who may have good advice for the future.....

  12. That is kind of scary and bizarre, but I'm not sure what you want RCI to tell you. They probably don't know, nor will they ever know why the tempered safety glass broke. As others have said, sometimes freak things just happen.

I bet they know exactly how it happened, and they further know the likelihood of it happening in the future. If you really think about it, someone can get hurt if that glass fails while someone is leaning on it...It's a risk for RCI, albeit it a small risk as it's not very likely that it will happen, let alone happen at the time someone is leaning against it....and I bet they've assessed that risk...

I cringe at the thought of a child leaning against the glass as it breaks.....

  13. Nor should a 3 year old be leaning against the glass.

No way.....This I disagree with.....I trust that the glass on a balcony is secure enough for myself or a child to put their head against and look down.....sorry I don't buy that you should't lean against it....It should be secure enough so that I feel comfortable that it won't break....Why stop at glass???....what if the railing simply split and gave way??....do we now say..."well you shouldn't be leaning on a railing"....Come on....

OP....I understand your worry, and at a minimum I think an inquiry or RCCL is warranted......THere are so many "what ifs" in this scenerio that it's scary.....

  14. If you feel the cruise lines are "nickel and diming", why still book one??

I think there's an easy answer to this as I also think there is some "nickel and diming" that happens on all vacations.....if the benefit of the trip (having fun, eating good meals, nice ports, etc.) outweighs the negativity of "nickel and diming" I will book...If not, I won't..

My point is, just because some states "nickel and diming" is an issue, does'nt mean they won't book....
