  1. Cool thanks!

Sometimes I use the ultra huge ziploc bags to pack things in before putting into the suitcase. Once in Seattle, our bags sat out on the tarmac in th rain when a cart broke down. Some of the stuff inside got wet. The huge ziplocs prevent this.

Also, I use the plastic bags from the dry cleaner when I pack. They can be folded around items and they will prevent wrinkling. Also, I fold one at the bottom of the bag and then place one over the top and kind of stuff them around the edge in case of rain somewhere. They weigh nothing.

    I

The best price I have found is on eBay.
  2. The deal with the bathroom plugs on Princess is that they don't want high powered items to be used in there. Night light with just two prongs will be fine. But no blow dryers, etc.

Guess I need a night light with the non polarized prongs because mine wouldn't work.
  3. Do you have a website link to shop for these?

I have recently discovered packing cubes and packing envelopes, I love them. Everything is organized and arrives with minimal wrinkles. They also make it easy to redistribute between bags if you find one bag is over weight you can just move one cube to another bag.The slim cubes are great for small things like chargers, extra batteries etc.
  4. Jennifer, we do this too actually. I was kind of ashamed to admit it! LOL :o

Throughout the year, when it's time to replace underwear and socks, tee shirts, etc., we stash them in our "travel closet". When it's time to pack, we retrieve enough of our "old things" to make the trip. Each day as we shower and change clothes, we throw the "old things" away.

    Just a suggestion!

  5. I checked out the one bag idea and I learned a couple of tips that will help. However, I like having certain things with me and I don't especially like looking for toiletry products in other countries, especially since I have long curly hair and use specific products. We get one free checked bag each with our airfare and as of yet, have had no trouble with delayed luggage. So, checking a bag is not an issue for us.

As far as a nightlight in the bathroom on Princess ships, is there a plug in there that will accept it? I thought those plugs were of a different sort.

  6. I just bought some more of the Purex 3 in 1 laundry sheets at Amazon. I probably got enough to use for the rest of my natural vacationing life and I am only 50. I got 80 for $15.95. If I do more than 80 loads of laundry while away, in the 30-35 years, then I must be able to afford a valet! LOL :p

  7. Have just read through the whole brilliant thread on a rainy Sunday afternoon in the UK. Thank you to all the contributors.

Looking forward to our first Princess Cruise on the Emerald at New Year. Am going to keep trying different cruise lines till I find the perfect one!

Was a bit put off though, that Princess don't supply bath robes as standard.

This is only our 5th cruise, so we aren't experienced at all, but all the other cruise ships had bath robes as standard waiting in our stateroom, and this kind of worries me a bit as there is no option on my personaliser to pre request. I can't imagine not having a bathrobe.

Should I pack our own, therefore less shoes, or will there be enough to go round?

No need to pack a robe, just request once you get to your cabin. You will need plenty of room for the SHOES!

  8. I collect the clear plastic boxy zipper bags that sheets, comforters, etc are package in. They are great for all kinds of packing needs. ;)

I also keep the plastic dry cleaning bags. Wrap everything from shoes to liquids in them. They are nice and slick too..so things don't wrinkle. If I have fresh dry cleaned items to pack, I leave on the wire hangers and bags ad just fold into suitcase. Come out perfect

  9. I bring the mesh shoe holder. But I also bring two of those 3M sticky hooks. (the kind with the double sided tape that removes easily by stretching it). I hand the shoes holder on the wall near the mini bar and use it for things like chargers, cords, batteries, etc. All the things that we will need often. Works great

  10. I found out as soon as we started unpacking. We had a mini-suite and the inside of the bathroom door had two hook-type thingys to hang the robes on.

So glad I saw this --we will be on the Island P--and I have been wondering how that would work. There is a chid's bath organizer that I think will work well also --how many towel bars in the mini-suite bathroom?

Two. There is one towel bar in the tub/shower combo and one towel bar over the toilet

  11. We are going to be on the star the cruise before it dry docks. What kind of disruptions could we expect?

I know someone that was on the Caribbean Princess a few years back when they did her refurb and added the International Cafe and updated the casino. Thery said they started taking equipment out of the casino and there was limnited machines/play tables

  12. Put the wastepaper basket or a small hand carry piece of luggage between the door and the bathroom. It will keep the door barely open to allow enough light into the cabin so you can make your way safely in the night if necessary.

I leave the robe hanging on the bathroom hook and put a sleeve in between the door and doorframe. Holds it open nicely. Those doors don't really "swing" freely, so I have never had a problem during rough seas with door going closed.

  13. How do you get on top of the bridge for sail away? I think that this would be a great spot, if not too crowded, for my family to hang out together before we re-join our group :-)

On the CARIBBEAN PRINCESS...you go all the way forward on the LIDO deck on either the starboard or the port hallways. There is a door...go through the door and there are some stairs that will lead you to the top of the bridge. Sometimes these doors will be locked when they do not want anyonme up there. But, beware...if it is windy or if the ship is going a full speed, it is not a fun place to be. The wind is so strong at times that any caps, earrings, or loose articles of clothing will just just be swept away. Here is a picture of us when there. My husband was leaning into the wind

  14. I just got off the Crown, one of the staff told me about people who bring tupperware so they can take home containers of food after the cruise!

The only thing like that I pack is a couple of those plastic elasticized covers (they look similar to a shower cap) that are used to cover plates in the microwave. We often want to have a snack or lunch on our own balcony...so we can get food from Horizon and bring it back without carrying an open plate.

  15. Sailfish, I believe you mentioned that your Princess robes were PLUSH, well they must have been "different" from ours. Ours were nice, but they were NOT a velor or plush, and as I said I would not pay $75 for the robe with a P or not.

We are like someone that just mentioned about keeping the bathroom light on. That is what we do, and just keep it a crack open. I would say for the majority of the time, you will NOT find the door opening and shutting, unless it would be a bad storm, etc.

The robes we usually have on Princess are a "waffle" type material and fairly lightweight. However, the ones we got on the Golden in Alaska were a heavier terrycloth.

Yeah, we have never had much trouble with the bathroom door closing when we leave it ajar and the light on. Even if it closes slightly, it will not slam shut and you can still see the crack of light coming through in the pitch blackness of the cabin.

  16. That works ok unless the ship is rocking! Still doesn't answer my question for those that want to plug a night light on the bathroom.

I guess having the nightlight in the bathroom is just matter of sheer personal preference!

  17. Would someone please explain to me why everyone wants to put there nightlight in the bathroom? When you close the door the cabin area is dark. Isn't the object of a nightlight to see how to find your way to the bathroom?

There is an extra wall outlet behind the TV that we use.

Actually we just leave the bathroom light on and hang the princess robes on the door hook and put them in the door crack a bit so the door stays ajar anbout tw inches. That is plenty of lught to see to get around, but not distracting.
