1. Wonderful news!!! :D He is, indeed, a trooper. My thanks also to Pat and Doug and the fact that he sent you an email Pat is really encouraging. We'll keep our arms wrapped around him in prayer! :)

  2. I'm a wine drinker primarily. I find the " wines by the glass " selection to be limited and low end. There was an occasional good offering at Blu.

I often just ordered by the bottle given that they save the unused portion for the following evening. I found a reasonably priced bottle of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc in Cellar Masters that I liked, that they also would save for me, or I could bring to my room.

Remember you can get free iced tea refills all day in the Oceanview cafe.

The beverage package doesn't work for me.

I am also primarily a wine drinker, almost exclusively. So are you saying you can order wine by the bottle and keep in your cabin? Then I could have a drink on the balcony while getting ready for dinner and another before bed. Love Sauvignon Blanc.

    Thanks, Sue

  3. Hi, I'm sailing to Hawaii on Century for 2 weeks in Feb., solo. I haven't yet researched the drinks pkgs as I should. ;) But it sounds like it would be cheaper to get one. My question is, the Classic or the Premium? I don't drink a lot of specialty coffee, no soft drinks. Mostly I drink wine, and on vacation, maybe 1 or 2 mixed drinks per day. Since there is only 1 person and let's say, on sea days, 5 or 6 glasses of wine (it's vacation!!:D) do you think the Classic would work or should I consider the Premium? I've already figured out that 5 or 6 glasses of wine come to around $60 per day.

    Advice is truly appreciated. :)

    Thanks, Sue

  4. Wonderful news, we'll keep praying! :) Thanks to Steve for keeping us in the loop.

Pat, at the risk of offending you  you need to quit the cigarettes. I know, I know, who does she think she is you're thinking. I smoked for 20 years, quit 20 years ago and have never felt better. I had bronchitis, colds, etc. and could not believe the difference, although it took 6 months to a year before I began to feel different. It was also a long, hard journey. I am not a "reformed" smoker, in fact, I would still kill for one!! :D Ok, I'm off my "Mom" lecture now! :);) Hope you feel better soon.

  5. My sentiments exactly!! Our thoughts and prayers should be with Egon. I'm also so happy he didn't have the stroke halfway around the world on a cruise ship. And thanks to Pat and Sam for keeping us up to date, wow, 118,000 hits - that's a testament to how much he is loved! :)

I'm so sorry, my fingers messed up - meant to type thanks to Pat and Doug (kitty man)! :o I too appreciate all you've done and have taken such inspiration from Egon. I pray he is able to cruise again and, if so, we should try to do a group cruise with him for a week or so, I'm not able to do 5 or 6 months yet!! :)

  6. I totally agree. That's why we're here...to root him on. We need our Energizer bunny back.

  7. I'd like to believe that it is only a temporary detour. I am almost positive that he'll be back again. Your welcome. It is my pleasure.

If anyone has a question for him, I will be glad to pass it on to him.

I too, can't believe he won't be back!! I just know it's temporary. :) Not a question Pat, but can I assume that he will still be in contact with you so we'll know what he's up to? I guess that is a question!

  8. God bless to Egon - I'll be praying for him. This should be a lesson to all of us. No matter the plans we make, everything can change in the blink of an eye. We should live every day gratefully with this in mind. Thanks Pat for keeping us informed. Now all of us, from every direction and zone, who have never laid eyes on one another, can all join prayers for our friend, who we've never met in person. God is good and life is wonderful - and miraculous!

Well said Sam! I'll be praying for our friend. Let's keep this thread going as I believe that Egon will be back with us soon posting of his renewed journey! In the meantime we can join prayers and keep in touch once in awhile as we await news.

  9. Oh, my. Well, sounds like we all need to start praying, sending positive vibes, good mojo or whatever you believe in, for Egon that his mass will be negative and this is but a speed bump on his adventure. I hope he finds a way to keep us posted.

Karen, you're right, we will all do that. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer, optimism, whatever you call it! I just refuse to believe that it won't be negative and that he can continue his travels.

  10. I quite agree. This is exceptionally poor customer service! $90,000, really? I probably costs them about 1/3 of that for what services, room and board Egon used. In my opinion this appears to be taking advantage of the elderly; is that only illeagl in the USA? I know there are 2 sides but I can't even imagine what they would say to counter this poor treatment of this VERY loyal customer. I will never cruise MSC and I'll spread the word.

    clb :(

CLB. I won't ever cruise them either. I never heard of them until Egon started his travels. I agree it is taking advantage of the elderly but I'm not sure what we can do, if anything. It is illegal in the US but it must not be in the countries MSC visits. I just have such a hard time believing that a cruise line could treat someone like this!

    Sue

  11. Welcome CLB! I agree with Pat. I would love to go on a cruise with all of you someday. Egon has been such an inspiration to all of us. I think of him everytime I get disgusted and almost give up on something I'm doing. It's all a matter of how you think, I believe. With so many people, they use age as an excuse to not even try, but not our Egon! I think he uses age as a reason to try even harder just to prove he can still keep up!

Another warm welcome, CLB! :) Your post was so apropos. And Sam, I often think of him when I'm thinking "oh, I can't do that, etc. - and I'm 20# yr younger!! ;) What a role model.

I would love to cruise with all of you one day, maybe we should think about that for the future.

    Sue

  12. Wow, those are great pictures, and happy to know he is sailing along again!:D I have so much admiration (and envy) for him, what a guy. I just wish there was something that could be done about his poor treatment from MSC. I know that's subjective but he's been on there for over a year and spent God knows how much and they can't give him free laundry!! HAL or Celebrity would have given it to him after so many days along with a lot of other perks. I just hate to see a cruise line take advantage of someone, particularly when he has/can generate so much great free publicity for them. Shame on them!

Ok, I'm done with my rant. Pat, I hope you had a nice weekend and found a little peace.

  13. Beautiful acknowledgement Sam. Thanks so much. I told my husband not to move Lita's ball for a while in the back yard, to just mow around it. I was on the deck this morning as a white butterfly landed on the ball briefly and flew away. Sign?

It truly is a beautiful acknowledgement. And yes, Pat, it's really, truly a sign from Lita to you and hubby, Beautiful!! :)

  14.
I am dreading tomorrow. I believe it is time for Lita to join Budha at Rainbow Bridge.
Oh Pat, my thoughts are with you. I've had 6 or 7 dogs and 1 cat over my life and grieve all of them still. Knowing that they are happy now and waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge is comforting.

To answer your post (several back) yes, I'm going solo on the Hawaiian cruise. My first solo and I'm looking forward to it. None of my family/friends can cruise so I'm doing it. I have been alone for about 20 years and done land vacations but this will be my first cruise. I'm in my late 60's and figure I better start while I'm still able!! ;) I love love your making the marker for your friend and throwing it overboard. I may do the same thing for a dear friend of mine from the past! :) What a special way to remember them.

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.
    God Bless, Sue
  15.
I need a cruise, but not until this dilemma is over with. They hate when I go away anywhere.

Does anyone have cruises planned soon? I like to dream about them. I love the aqua waters. They are so soothing whether I get wet or not.

    Happy trails!
I have one planned but too far away for you. I'm going on the 15 day circle Hawaii on Celebrity on 2/17/13. I can't wait, I love, love sea days and Hawaii. Planning for it will get me through this upcoming Chicago winter!! I love the aqua waters also, Pat. I'm thinking of you and your little sweeties! :)

  16. Pat my heart aches for you, I know how you feel. At my age, I've had several dear pets go to the Rainbow Bridge and I still cry for them. It really is losing a member of your family!

    God Bless, Sue
  17.
I have seriously been looking at them. If I don't go next week or up to June 8th, I babysit all summer long for my daughter so would have to wait for fall. Of course, it would be something to look forward to. Thanks Sue.:) Right now, I'd settle for a 3-nighter just to get away by myself.
So do it - a 3 nighter right now (yikes, not long till June 8th) and then do a longer one in the fall after the kids go back to school!! :D Stick with me, Pat, I'll spend your money for you! ;)

  18.
Got my final biopsy report this morning. Not cancer, thank God. It's called hyperkeratosis, which is basically a callous-like lesion from something rubbing (tooth). Thanks for the support. Now I can breath again.:)
Yeah!!!! Such good news, so good maybe you ought to book a cruise!! :D

    Sue
  19. I think they are ridiculous with as much as he's spent and as long as he's traveled! :(

Just popped on to say Hi and I'm thinking of you to Pat (Yellowbird) and am praying hard that today went well. I'm hoping you are celebrating tonight, if not we'll pray you through whatever comes up. :):):)
