Thanks. I am on a 7 day. What would be a good time to make dinner reservations. I am not sure how much time to allow. We are only 2. Also do you know what day Mama Mia might be on a 7 day cruise.

    Thanks.

  2. Think of it this way:

You pay X $250 dollars. This is your deposit on the future cruise. It's non refundable, you don't get it back.

Because no none would do that, as a gesture, they give you some OBC on the current cruise. It happens to be, that this amount is not less, or more then the deposit, it's the same amount $250. Some marketing genius (I actually don't know if I am sarcastic about this or not) decided that if you didn't use up this OBC, they give it back to you, it just happens to be the same amount as the deposit. It does seem like a free deposit and sounds like a great deal, hope it lasts until we are onboard in August, but for the life of me, I can't think what more I could book until they release new sailings, and everything I have booked has gone up in price.

Great review by the way :)

    Happy sailing,

    Jenna

I don't get this at all. I paid $200 deposit for my April 2015 cruise. They gave me $250 and the drink package. I was told I can cancel and get my $200 deposit back.

  3. I couldn't book entertainment for our March sailing either. I've only been able to book it for our 1-23-15 sailing. Can't book entertainment for our other Quantum sailings or even for our 3 nighter on 11-18-14.

When I called Royal to ask them about the other sailings, they tell me they are not open yet and they don't know when it will open. I'll wait and then give them a call in a month or two.

Can you please tell he what time the shows are. TIA.

  4. It all depends on the staff and the Maitre 'd. I have sailed on Summit twice a year since 2009. You may very well get waved in .....but you may also get turned away or handed a jacket. I saw jackets in 2013 on Summit.......

I don't get what the big deal is with the jacket for the men..... If you are hot at the table take it off during the meal......

We asked for one and we were told they no longer have them. Perhaps they did away with them for 2014.

  5. Just returned from the Summit this morning. We were actually invited to join the Staff Captain at the Captain's table on formal night. I could not believe that two older couples showed up and neither gentleman wore a tie, one gentleman didn't even have a proper suit jacket. It looked more like one of those old leisure suit jackets. No one said a word to either one. It didn't have any effect on my enjoyment of the evening, however I did find it inappropriate dress for the occasion. Just my opinion.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe those 2 people could not afford to buy an appropriate suit to wear. Some people save for years to be able to go on a cruise. They paid their fare, they were invited by the Captain so he obviously didn't have a problem with what they wore. Older people sometimes cruise for special occasions and really don't have money for extra expenses. Just sayin....

  6. You're going on a cruise that has 2 formal nights, you live in Monmouth County, and your husband doesn't own at least a sports jacket? It's not like you live in Seaside Heights next door to Snookie and going to a Yankees game.:D:D

I guess you can't read correctly. I NEVER said my husband didn't own a sports jacket.

Not that it's any of your business but we chose not to bring formal wear this time because we had made plans to dine in Qsine the first formal night. We were planning on going to the buffet the second formal night until the hostess told us to just come to the dining room. If the cruise line has a problem with it, they should enforce it. They don't because they were letting in people with jeans. They obviously don't care what people like you think or want. Celebrity can't compete with other cruise lines because of their stuffy policies. You don't see other lines giving away free drink packages, free gratuities, and OBCs to get people to sail with them. Royal is eliminating the formal dress requirement on Quantum in 16 of their 18 restaurants. Maybe you should try Holland America. It's probably more suited to someone like you.

  7. I don't know why people post incorrect information but here is the correct information. One of three things will happen, they will be refused entry to the MDR, they will be offered a jacket to be worn in the MDR or they may be allowed into the MDR. It all depends on who is at the door, Celebrity is consistently inconsistent in the enforcement of their dress code. Those are the options, choice is yours but I want you to know reality.

The Summit Dining Room does not have jackets on hand. I was told by staff at the door that they used to have them but the number of people coming to the dinning room with out one exceeded their supply so they no longer provide them. We were waived right in. My husband had on dockers and a button down shirt. We asked I advance if it would be ok to come like that and we were told yes no problem.

  8. We have 8 family members cruising to Bermuda next month on Summit. Age range from 8-74 years old. Is it acceptable on formal nights to wear a long sleeve dress shirt - tie - dress pants but no jacket for the children and grown men. Trying to keep the luggage to a minimum.

Got back 2 weeks ago. Men were not dressed up on the formal nights. I saw men with jeans on being admitted into the dining room on the second formal night no problem. Celebrity has relaxed the dress code on this ship probably because they are competing with the NCL Breakaway which also sails to Bermuda. Eating I the speciality restaurant will cost your group $400.

  9. We were on the June 1 sailing to Bermuda and saw everyone of Jordan's performances. We even skipped dinner one night so we wouldn't miss him perform. He is fabulous. We first saw him perform last year and we were immediately impressed with his talent. We are lucky to be sailing to Canada In September for two weeks and plan to see him every day. Can't wait for the cd to come out. :);):)

  10. We went to Qsine the first formal night. On the second we check with the hostess to find out what the policy was because we did not bring any formal cloths on this trip. I told her my husband did not have a jacket and she said no problem. He wore a Tommy Bahama button down shirt with dockers and he had no problem. We also saw someone wearing jeans and a florida shirt and they let him in too. She said that they used to provide jackets for those in need but there are just too many without them so they stopped.

  11. We just returned too from the June 1 sailing. We were in Aqua so I can't say anything about the MDR. It was an excellent cruise though.

I felt the buffet need more tweaking. I usually have a salad and a few tastes of things that might be interesting and maybe a piece or two of cantaloupe.

Well you can't get two cubes of cantaloupe you have to take a big bowl full of watermelon, pineapple, honeydew and cantaloupe. I hate such waste. The other strange thing is the salad dressing is nowhere near the salad. Poor planning. We went yesterday to the buffet for breakfast. I wanted a waffle(hadn't had one all cruise since they are not on Blu's menu.) When I asked for bacon I was told to go to another line which was pretty long. I just took the bacon, sausage, and egg dish and ate the bacon. What a waste! The quality of the food was very good though. They still need to work on that buffet though.

Blu was outstanding as always. I was very pleased with the Summit overall.

I agree with your comments. I found the buffet to be very annoying when looking or things to go with the item I selected. Salad bar was a a mess also

  12. Just off Summit today also. I want to caveat this post by saying I'm not a buffet person, but did eat a made-to-order Panini/sandwich at the aft sandwich bar.

With all the controversy about the new buffet concept instituted on Summit, I made it a point to check it out for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Sure, there are some kinks that need to be worked out, but I thought the controversy was "much ado about nothing." In fact, I was impressed with all the carving stations they had at both lunch and dinner along with the sausage and kielbasa rings. First time I've seen whole roasted chickens being carved up along with hams, pork loins, roast beef. They even had carved to order lunch meats and large hunks of cheese.

Was everything 100% perfect? No, but I booked Summit for same time next year. Love the ship.

I don't hate the ship. I fact I am sailing the Summit to Canada in September. I just think there are some things that can be improved and the buffet is one of them. I am not complaining about what is being offered. It's just hard to find. It took me until Friday to realize that the carving stations were available at lunch. The buffet is made worse by people running around trying to find stuff. The salad bar is also skimpy and the items are very difficult to reach.

  13. Which activities did you notice were lacking?

We're currently holding reservations on both the Summit and the Grandeur of the Seas to go back to Bermuda next spring. I'd love to try Celebrity, but, at the same time, we really enjoy having things to do/watch on the ship. I'm carefully watching what folks say about the activities staff cuts before deciding which cruise line to go with.

I can't pinpoint it but we were on the ship last June and there was more going on in the evenings. Also the Sunset bar was closed for 2 days for maintenance and the musical performances scheduled there on those evenings were cancelled instead of being relocated to another venue. Some of the late night events were silly. There was a late night pool party which was poorly attended and a party in the Solarium which was a waste of time.

  14. Just got off the Summit today. I have to agree that the buffet was a complete disaster. The new concept of putting food in little pans is terrible. Everything was cold. Also nothing is where it should be at this buffet. You can get an omelette but have to go to a different station for toast. Then you have to go looking around for butter. Eating there was very frustrating. We had a nice trip. It the ship is showing its age. There were also cuts in activities which were very obvious. It's sad because Bermuda is our favorite place but after 2 trips on the Summit we won't be returning.

  15. Thanks for the response. The CDC recommends both shots. I did get the Hep A but I was not planning to get the other. I would hope that warnings will be posted if it's not safe to swim.

  16. We are leaving next Sunday. We already got the Hep A shots. Did anyone get the typhoid shots. Are they really necessary. We plan to go to Horseshoe Bay all three days.

  17. I booked during the 123 offer and I chose the drink package because I asked the cruise specialist if the banana daiquiri was included. He said yes and now it's not on the list. The drink package is basically worthless to me now. Maybe Celebrity could give us a do-over on our selections since the packages have changed since our booking? I would have chosen the OBC if I had known. I apologize for being disappointed.

    Bev

I agree. The package is useless to me now too and I would prefer the on board credit also.

Time to go back to Princess.

  18. I hurt my hip today. We leave in 3 weeks. I'm seeing an orthopedist tomorrow. If he says I should cancel how do I go about doing it. I booked through a TA and have insurance.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
