Hi Kuldalai
Hope you had a great time in Singapore. I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to you before I disembarked. I had a fabulous time on the ship - it was really a shame to have to get off:D
I have a question for you: I signed up for the Star Cruiser Card, spent up big (as you do on holidays:D ), had quite a few points accrued but when I got my bill, I didn't get any reduction using the points. Was this because I did an express check out? I've sent 2 emails to Star re this question but no one responds. I've got a lot of points and can't do anything with them now! What's the story with these points?
Cheers

Back home after a wonderful cruise on the Superstar Gemini. What a great ship she is...I must say I'm a convert to smaller ship cruising now. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the itinerary southbound from Hong Kong and would recommend to anyone interested to jump on board before the ship leaves Star Cruises. The food was fantastic and I only have superlatives for the crew who were absolutely brilliant. When I've got some time, I will post a review.
It was great to meet Helga and Kuldalai...I hope you have made it back home in one piece. I had a problem with the Qantas flight ex Singapore being delayed 4 hours but this was nothing in comparison to all the flights that have been cancelled due to the engineers' strike.

Got my malaria medication today (doxylin).
Something for us all to think about - whilst taking this medication you need to be very careful when going out into the sun....the medication can cause your skin to be much more sensitive to sunlight and severe sunburn,
but worst of all....NO ALCOHOL:eek:
Shock, horror!

On the Hong Kong - Singapore leg Captains Gala Dinner will be on the Sunday night . Last year on the Singapore - Hong Kong leg the dinner was on the Thursday night .
Is the Captain's Gala Dinner a formal affair? What do most people wear to this? Is it compulsory to attend or can you eat at the buffet instead?
Also, what time does boarding start in Hong Kong on the Wednesday? Can you board and then get off the ship, do a bit of shopping at the Ocean Terminal and then get back on again before departing?
I'm arriving in Hong Kong on the Monday evening, staying at the Sheraton Kowloon and then staying at the Empire Hotel Kowloon on the Tuesday night.
I was thinking about doing the Ngong Ping Tung Chung Cable Car on Lantau Island. Is anyone interested in going?
Lastly, which currency is best? It's been a long time since I was in Hong Kong and wondered if Aussie Dollars were ok to take - also are they ok in Vietnam?
Cheers

Join up at same time for Star Cruiser Card (also at Reception ) for free. Then you get brownie points for the value of your cabin, and for all food & beverage purchases on board . When you settle your on board account at end of cruise redeem the brownie points and it will usually save you $ 100 - $ 200 off the account.
Hi Kuldalai - you mention here food purchases...what food is extra on the Gemini. Is there a surcharged restaurant?
Also I've been looking for the ship excursions on the Star website and I can't find any. Do we get a list of excursions with our documents or do we just book them onboard? Is there any problem with excursions selling out?
Cheers

The first night ex Hong Kong is pretty hectic with getting settled in, lifeboat drill, a very spectacular nightime departure with laser light show on both sides of the harbour with a 9pm departure . So suggest better to meet in the Gemini Bar the next night Thursday 12/06 at 6pm . The Thursday is a full day at sea. Also that way we all have the added fun of trying to guess who is who at the Zoo for 24 hours ! On the Thursday night I will wear a black casual jacket over a red/black Thai silk shirt .
Hi there
Look forward to meeting you in the Gemini Bar on Thursday 12 June at 6pm.

Hi there Kuldalai
Thankx for the info about the guest registration, I discovered that my TA had filled most of it out anyway!
I'm a solo traveller so am happy to meet you all as soon as possible.
On my recent NCL cruise, we all met in the library 30 mins after the lifeboat drill and had a great time getting to know each other.
Seeing that you know the ship so well perhaps you can suggest a time and place?
Look forward to meeting everyone on board in June.
Cheers

Does the SS Gemini do a Singles Meet & Greet on its cruises? I'm a solo traveller and it would be nice to meet others in the same boat (excuse the pun :) )...if not, maybe we can do a Cruise Critic M & G? I'm cruising ex HKG on 11 June.

Hi
I'm on the 11 June sailing ex HKG. Do I need to organise my own Vietnam visa or does the cruise line organise it for a fee? I'm travelling on an Aussie passport.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Thankx for your info.
I'm paying $4489 all up for what u mentioned. this is with single supplement for a DA inside cabin - unfortunately I can't afford anything better.
The single supplement sucks but I'm looking forward to the trip. Sounds like a great little ship.

If the 10 or 11 night itineraries interest you you start in one city and finish up in another . This is not a problem coming from Australia or UK. Just ask your travel agent to book you a return airfare to Hong Kong with what is called an "open jaw" between Singapore/Hong Kong (the leg you cruise) and you get cheaper airfare than buying a single to Singapore, and a single from Hong Kong or vv .
Holler out if can be of further assistance .
HI...i've booked a package with my travel agent for 11 June ex HKG and in hindsight it seems rather expensive (single supplement)...would a travel agent use this 'open jaw' method when calculating a package?
Thankx for yr help.

Hi D and B!
Your review was an absolute kack! Reading it tonight brought back so many good memories....and it's only a few days ago that we disembarked the Dream (Nightmare)! I was so disappointed that I wasn't able to catch up with you both to say goodbye. I was going to write a review myself but there's nothing more that I could add, you have captured the entire Dream experience.
SailorJack...you rock!
I'll get your email from P and let's keep in touch.
Cheers, Jennifer

Hi
I've just been reading your thread...I'm booked to cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore in June next year. I'm a solo cruiser so would be keen to meet any of you doing this cruise. I'm really looking forward to it.

Yes it is small and compact. Here is a site to take a look.\
http://www.naturestapestry.com/whitenoise2.html
cabins only have one outlet so you will need an extension cord to plau everything in.
Thankx very much for this info and tip.

Hi
I sleep with a fan in my bedroom normally but obviously can't travel with it (I'm from Australia)...so what is a noise machine? I've never heard of this before. Is it something small that can be packed easily in a suitcase?
Thankx for your help.
Cheers
