  1. So, I’m waffling on which one to pick...  They all connect to same flight thru ATL to get home.  Wondering which one involves least stress 😊😳😊.    A 9:45am flight with 3 hr layover, 10:45am flight with 2 hr layover, or 11:45am flight with 1 hr layover.  I also do not want to miss flight out of ATL!  Again, we would be coming off Allure in FLL and heading to FLL airport after cruise.

    decisions...

    Thanks for input.

  2. So glad you had a wonderful time! We are on the 9 day cruise next week and we can't wait!! Was there a daily compass with children's activities?

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

I was on that cruise too. My teenagers did not receive the teen compass in the cabin, but they could be found for all age groups down by guest services. On the wall to left of entrance to guest services area could find extra adult compasses, plus the kids' ones.

  3. My pet peeve is a land peeve too, and not too much a cruise ship peeve, as somehow I don't make it to the gym too much on a cruise:o:o:o, but when someone is just sitting at a machine for a while - and I'm trying to guess are they between reps, just resting, etc. Some of my favorite memories are bonding with my daughter at the cruise ship gym at night - as usually hardly anyone there.

  4. On the Anthem, Curious how big is the room, Windows? As I'd like to try but have some mild claustrophobia - doesn't really stop me from doing anything but can get uneasy in anything smaller than elevator with no window, so just wondering ho crowded it feels with # of people for game... It wouldn't super bother me, but vacation all about feeling relaxed :) for me

    Thanks.

Ps. Plus would probably try on extended family cruise...so would be potentially a lot of relatives together in small space :-)

  5. Well, I hope one person's issues doesn't worry you too much. We were on Liberty the week that spanned the end of March / beginning of April. It was spring break time, so lots of kids, but we had a great time. We had no problems with the MDR food, either, though we only dined there four of seven nights, because we wanted to try a couple specialty restaurants, and one night, we didn't feel like being tied to our normal dining time, so we went to the Windjammer buffet for dinner, which was very nice.

We rarely find a need to visit Guest Services, and the only time we had an issue at all was the first day, because my wife's suitcase never showed up. For some reason it was held, though we didn't get any kind of notification, nor was there any note of why it was held, when we went down to G.S. to report it missing and found that it was there among other bags that were flagged for irons or other things. Her bag wasn't flagged at all, and they just gave it to her to take back to the room with us. This was nearly 10pm, so we were a bit annoyed at not having received any sort of notification that her bag was being held, but just moved on, now that we had it.

We did end up with a formal night on a port day, though, so if you see that, don't assume it's a mistake and run the Guest Services to report it.

Thanks, but nah, nothing really worries me and looking forward to the cruise. And what can I say, I do like Saturday Night Fever, and one of my very favorite things is just to play shuffleboard and walk around on the outside promenade deck on the freedom class. I hope that is still there. And, I don't know if it is because I have little to no sense of smell, but I am a very easy grader when it comes to food - and I always tend to enjoy the food enough. but, I have had many conversations over how well I actually taste given this. but rest of family is usually happy enough with food options on RC ships.

We mostly do non cruise vacations, and in my youth traveled around Europe just showing up places not even knowing where would find a place to sleep:) and then was lucky to have a job or two that required a lot of travel prior to having kids, so I've always been pretty happy, whether it's a weekend road trip, or something more. I do like to plan ahead more these days, so I do like to read reviews and daydream :o of the next vacation.

  6. Thank you for a wonderfully written review! I know it's been almost 2 years since you were in Alaska, but I'm only now reading this! I have cruised to Alaska twice each on Princess and HAL, and will be on b2b Alaska cruises on Radiance in May 2017.

Thanks. We tend to not go back to the same places, but Alaska is a place I do want to return to some day. I really loved it. Still one of my very favorite vacations. Though, when I reread parts of my review, I think maybe I rambled too much as I was just going to do a quick review..... But every place and pic really was special :-) :-) :-) so kept adding on....

May 2017 sounds wonderful for Alaska.. Makes me want to go, but just booked Yellowstone lodging for summer 2017 - our first time. Felt like booking a cruise as booking the lodging inside park so far in advance:eek: I hope it pans out that we do go somewhere!

    Thanks again.

  7. Thanks for the review. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to list examples, etc as then it helps me think whether that would bug me or not. We tend to take more non cruise than cruise vacations, but we do like to throw in a couple cruises. For example, now our kids are older, so stuff about kid clubs, etc I now skim vs paying attention too :) like I once did, etc.

    So thanks again.

  8. My age is showing. I can't get over someone not being familiar with the plot of Saturday Night Fever.

I too am interested to see why an apparently experienced cruiser is so dissatisfied - most of the reviews have been good. Some of the bad ones in the review section have been sketchy.

Thanks, your comment made me smile as was thinking the same thing, reading my way thru this as have Liberty booked next year. Son really wants to see the USS TEXAS while down that way, so seemed good choice for school break.

  9. Another vote for radiance to Alaska :). We did it in 2014 with slightly older kids, and we did the RV thing too. Seems a long time ago, but Radiance is actually my favorite ship so far. We never get balconies, except for this Alaska trip, and thought it was worth it for us. I did do a review of trip below.

  10. We used this place in Willow, AK which I think is approx. 1 1/2 hrs. from Anchorage area. It was really great, non commerical, and my son loved the walk in the woods with the puppies. I have some pics and more info in the review in my signature. Was my son's favorite excursion... I think he actually liked it as much as our visit to Anan (or more) - but he really likes dogs, and they had a really friendly border collie too - who was the family pet.

Ps. Though I could be off on distance from Anchorage as 1) two yrs ago and 2) we did it on our way from Glenn Highway to Talkeetna, or maybe it was on way back from Talkeetna... Vern's web site says approx. 1 hr from Anchorage.

  11. From around 1.50 - 4.10 in this shows some of the things to see, including Tobacco Bay and the ferry area. All the best, Tony

Thanks for posting, been a long time since I was in Bermuda, very good overview :-)

  12. So wondering if anyone has pics of either the 166ft or 178ft inside cabins on the Anthem, as wondering how the layouts differ, etc. I think if I remember correctly, was roughly a $100 or so difference between the two lately. I think the 178ft might have a small sofa whereas the 166ft might have a chair, but wondering if anyone can confirm either way. Thanks.

  13. We went last year on Radiance. Even with her being an older ship, she was my favorite ship due to being able to view the ocean from many inside and outside areas. My kids are around your kids ages, and while not a ton of kids, there were other kids on board to meet, etc.

We liked the little eating area in Solarium for snacks and hot chocolate. The headliner shows were great.

We lucked out on the weather, but I did talk a lot about packing in my review in signature below. Have a great time!

  14. Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. I did call Island Wings and was very reassured. They said they take people with various levels of disability and assured me that there would be help if I needed it.

Wishing u a great time at Anan. It was a fantastic experience.

  15. We went to Anan with Michelle last summer. If you decide to go, I would say it might be worth having good waterproof boots as when we landed at Anan, you sorta go one by one, each person getting out of the plane, shutting the door, then walking a few steps on the float part to step off onto the beach area. Since I am prone to tripping, I was thinking that a small mis-step would have put me in some shallow water. Also besides the float plane trip itself, the short trail can be potentially slick/uneven at spots. I did see one person in another party fall because rushing around a corner, off the narrow wooden trailway.

  16. Haha

DJ stands for Dinner Jacket or Black Tie or Tux .... All the same in UK but I guess even though we all speak English we all have variations of the meaning ..... for example Coat - UK = something you wear to go outside when it rains, U.S. = a jacket you wear in restaurant. Vest - UK = something you wear when you're 3 year old under your shirt and jumper (sweater :)) when you're cold , U.S. = a tee shirt without sleeves you wear in a restaurant when you want to ignore the dress code ;) ...... Honestly last bit is tounge in cheek :)

Thanks. Yep, I sometimes even have trouble understanding the US version of stuff, especially when talking to my teenagers at times or visa versa. Long time ago I spent a college semester in London, and for work/vacation been back to England, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, Singapore and so on.. and think I managed to misunderstand something everywhere - always good for a good laugh :-) or brief moment of shock, followed by more laughter!
