  1. I didn't catch any of the reggae bands. It seems that I spent close to zero time on the pool deck and much more time in the solarium where you can't really hear anything that is happening on the pool deck. It was more comfortable in there with the wind blowing out at sea.

Gotcha. Sounds nice. I'm glad you had a good time!!

  2. This is my first post to this board. I have been reading the posts on here for the past couple of days. My family came off of this cruise last night (Thank God!) and now that we are safe and back on solid ground I would like to say a couple of things.

This experience was the absolute worst thing I have ever been through. I have never feared for my life or my family's lives in a way that I did on Sunday. I have read on here that It couldn't have been that bad, that some would have enjoyed the ride! Absolutely not. If you did not experience it you cannot even begin to know what it was like.

Royal Caribbean and the captain should not be praised, they should be held accountable for putting us in that situation at all. I don't really care what anyone on the boards say about the weather, the reports were out there, we knew Saturday that there were hurricane strength winds of the coast of NC. We talked about it on the way to the ship. My husband said not to worry as they would never sail in the direction of a storm. Ha! Alternate plans should have been made before we found ourselves in the middle of the mess. We were not informed of anything during the periodic announcements that could be found reassuring or comforting. It didn't help the glass and belongings flying all over the cabin and breaking, watching the balcony furniture fly around the balcony hitting the door, etc. Then we were given false information regarding what was going to happen next. Regarding guest services, if you could get a hold of them at all you were told that more information would be forthcoming. They were no help at all.

We had no food for hours. I see somebody said that food was brought to the cabins, not true, at least not in our case. If you are going on a cruise be sure to bring something that you can eat in your cabin in case of an emergency like this. When we were allowed out the next morning it was still not easy to find something to eat. When Windjammer finally opened it was so packed (understandably so, but still) it was overwhelming.

As far as what Royal Caribbean is being praised on this board for "giving" the passengers for having been put through this horrible experience, a full refund, the least they can do as we did not have any sort of vacation, 50% off of another cruise, what a joke, first there are not many that I have spoken to that will be cruising anytime in the near future, if ever and that is just a way for Royal to try to get people to spend money on their flawed product again, it is not a benefit or a reward the us. The free wifi after the incident, a lot of us had wifi anyway, it was nice that everyone could use it to make alternate arrangements but then Royal changed the schedule again and messed up a majority of the alternate plans made, open bar.. what a joke. Not everyone drinks and I guess they think those that do will get drunk and forget they feared for their lives he day before! I don't even understand that one. What they do OWE us is an explanation of how we were put in the situation we were in in the first place and to make sure it never happens to anyone again.

I have read a lot of comments here. To all that are defending Royal just because you love Royal, you were not on this cruise. Posters such a Katrina and bedazzled are truly in the minority in how they feel about the experience. I have not heard much "positive" response as it was in know way a "positive" experience. The only positive is that we are here to tell about it. Who would think that would be the positive we came home from our long awaited so called vacation with??

So there are my comments. This is the 12th cruise that we have been on and will be our last. One thing that I learned from this experience is that the passenger has absolutely no control over what happens to them on a ship. You are at the mercy Royal Caribbean. Royal Caribbean's main concern is keeping everything hush hush to avoid bad press and making as much money as they can instead of the health and well being of the paying customers on the vessel.

I'd like to say thanks for sharing your story - what you went through was awful and I feel for everyone onboard. Sorry it was so scary :(

  3. Thanks!! I am happy to be going home after this, but I do want to say for the record that the staff and crew has been AMAZING. I felt like they've been working doubly hard - from the performers dancing/singing their hearts out to the repair guys fixing every little thing to the stateroom attendants building fabulous alligator towel pillows. Very appreciative of everything they've done.

Also I just had an AMAZING steak at Chops so I am going to leave this cruise with a very happy tummy. :-)

Sounds good to me. Hope you can reschedule your cruise.

Royal has the best staff and crew, IMO. I sometimes get frustrated with service nowadays, but I've got many friends who are still employed with Royal Caribbean and I know they work their behinds off. They'd be thrilled with your comments :)

  4. I think you are overthinking it. There are multiple posts from people onboard saying things are fine. RCI and others onboard have said the damage was purely cosmetic. No one has said that there are any issues with power and we have a few people posting who are onboard.

Could very well be. Just seemed weird, usually there are lights here and there. Looked completely dark.

  5. I'm on the boat, sitting in Chops Grille portside right now having dinner with my husband. The windows are obscured by the life boats so you wouldn't be able to see the restaurants for the most part. Most people on the ship seem to be on decks 4/5 having dinner. Also I think there's another showing of spectra's cabaret in Two70 right now, which was standing room only when I went last night.

Also there was a huge line of people on deck 5 waiting to debark with their luggage in hand when I went into chops.

I'm staying overnight and flying home to Atlanta tomorrow afternoon. Seems like a fair number of people wanting to stay onboard, especially those flying out or driving out far. The people wanting to leave already mostly seem to live very close.

Thanks for the post. So happy to see you guys pulling in safely. Have a safe trip home, wish you all the best!

  6. okey doke. I was just relaying what we were told was the reason. More interesting, though, is he came back later and said they made the right decision because that storm was developing as expected.

Ah well. What's done is done and we are all safe and will have a great story. I have been through a number of storms and this was truly awful. There was only a moment or two, though where i was genuinely afraid afraid.

    Welcome Back!!! :) :)

  7. I really enjoyed reading your thoughts, sorry I missed your postings the first time around!

I chuckled at your pizza comments....made me laugh. I am a pizza aficionado myself, so I would have been equally disappointed. I am not sure what is going on with the WJ, but quality has seriously declined...and the desserts are really bad. Last time on Majesty, I actually, for the first time ever in my cruising history, could not find more than 1 item to eat. I am vegetarian, but still....usually have a ton of options, none of which were present.

I don't like cutbacks on food and desserts, at all.

Anyway, I'm glad you had a nice week onboard. Did you listen to any of the reggae/calypso band onboard?

  8. I feel so sorry for everyone on that ship, Captain and crew included! Weather definitely "happens" but I don't think it's unfair to wonder why the ship was directly in the middle of such a storm....I'm sure they have answers, and people onboard should be given those.

Were the reports of two heart attacks, true? When you're dealing with people's lives, you have to be prepared to provide answers. Not crazy for people to be questioning what happened, IMO.

    I hope everyone is okay.
