My understanding of Jet2 is that they permit you to check in your luggage the evening before a flight. We tried this is Birmingham when we were going to Tenerife to board Azura. We were advised that we couldn't check in as we were on a chartered flight. No problem, we took our luggage back across the road to the Hilton and we just checked in the following morning, as per usual.
This summer we are flying to Malta to join Azura, but travelling on a Jet2 scheduled flight. Does anyone know if we can check our hold luggage in the evening before? We are flying from Bristol and staying at the Hampton, i.e. on site. I don't want to drag my luggage up the hill to the terminal, only to be told that we can't do an early check-in.
If you're on the scheduled Jet2 flight from Bristol then you CAN check in the night before from 1630hrs. We did it in November last year on the scheduled flight to Tenerife.

You need to confirm details of your insurance as part of your check in documentation prior to the cruise.
Quite easy to make up

The "exorbitant fees" you quote are as a result of getting what is effectively private health care!
I know...

May I ask what the caveat is? We are planning our pre cruise stay in London and checking out options to get to Southampton.
The caveat is, to get the cheapest ticket you need to book a specific timed train. If you miss that one your ticket is useless and you then have to pay the 'on the day' full ticket price which can be expensive.

You don't need insurance to cover you for a £109 bill of any kind, medical or not.
You need medical insurance for two reasons -
Firstly when you have had treatment in some far flung place and they have added a few zeros onto the end of that bill, plus the cost of repatriation if needed.
Secondly because P&O won't let you on the ship without it.
But as for anyone actually making a worthwhile claim on a UK only cruise - I seriously doubt that happens an awful lot.
Never been asked to show my insurance upon boarding, so how would they know if I had any or not??

yes, unless you're happy to pay the exorbitant fees they charge in the onboard Med Centre if in the unlikely situation you needed to use it.

Wondering if anyone has feedback of doing an excursion to Wales from Liverpool?I found one from busybus that looks interesting but not certain if it is too much. We are not really Beatles fans and I would like to see more countryside than city. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
Busybus are used regularly by cruise passengers from Liverpool to north Wales and are highly rated. But, Liverpool isn't just about the Beatles. It as it's own history to investigate from the Titanic, slaves, Old docks etc. which have all been modernised and integrated into the main city. One of the most walkable cities in the UK.

Just dress for the weather, you'll see loads wearing shorts if it's nice enough. Our postmen wear them virtually all year round...

Friends have applied on line and got their new passport back inside 1 week.
I am sure that the time needed on your passport is 6 months extra.
EU is 3 months

Never seen or heard that before. Sailed on P&O, Princess & RCI from Southampton and they've all served alcohol.

I'm sure this has been asked many times but I can't find the answer.
We are taking private transportation from Heathrow to Southampton. There will be 5 of us in the van. Do we tip this driver and would it be based on a percentage of the cost of the trip? Seems like we should tip for the long drive and the fact that luggage is involved.
I understand that tips are not expected in cabs or pubs, though in pubs is might be appreciated.
Also, if using a wheelchair at the airport or cruise port should we tip?
And, when taking a ship tour do we tip the tour director and driver like we do in the States?
We're used to tipping here in the US so I sure want to tip where it's expected or appreciated, but I don't want to insult anyone.
Sound like I've never cruised before. I have cruised many times but never with private transportation and never when using a wheelchair.
£5-10 for the transfer driver. Don't bother at all in the pubs. Tour guides and driver a couple of quid each depending how good they were.

Have you ever ordered the "off menu" Indian food the night before? It is not "rubbish"; it is authentic and delicious!
The night before what?? All the Indian food I've tried on Princess has never been anywhere near proper Indian food.

No credit for trying, just condemnation.
the cook is likely Indian and you just insulted his mom!!
That my be true, but it doesn't stop the Indian food being rubbish. It's more than likely 'weakened' for passengers. Indian food on P&O UK cruise ships is 100 times better than Princess attempts.

Princess' attempts at Indian food are like their beer menu.. Rubbish.

To add to JB"s always excellent advice, try to carry a "tap and go" card, and/or have Apple Pay/Google Pay on your smart phone. I believe the limit is £30, but tap and go is the easiest way to pay for almost everything in the UK. Many US credit cards don't support chip and pin (only Americans sign credit card slips...), but they will support tap and go.
The limit on Google Pay or Contact less Credit cards is now £100

Our dinner at the Duke of Wellington led to an unfortunate incidence of food poisoning for both of us. We felt better in the morning.
Food poisoning lasts for at least a few days, not just overnight....

Novotel gets good ratings and is reasonably priced and located and I was going to book it, but then looking carefully I noticed it does not have A/C in its rooms. That is a deal buster for me and my DH. No matter what time of year, we need our A/C! I am staying in Southampton(hopefully) the end of June, 2021. I found similar hotels (Jurys Inn and room2Southampton Hometel) that do have A/C and are equal to or a little less than Novotel.
Pooh
I've found A/C in UK hotels nowhere near as good as US hotels. You may be severely disappointed.

A 2 week quarantine period is being brought in from May for any arrivals into the UK.

I live just a few miles down from Cardiff in Newport, and Morgans as just about got it sown up. For restaurants, there are a few good ones. The Ivy has just opened in the city centre, Giovanni's(Italian) either on the Hayes or opposite the New Theatre, The Clink Cymru is actually in Cardiff Prison and is run by Prisoners, has a couple of month waiting list(highly recommended). Across the Marina is the Custom House which houses 2 different restaurants. Further afield you have the Hardwick in Abergavenney(about 40min drive). Numerous other restaurants to choose from, your friends show know most of them. For pubs, well there's absolutely loads, in the city centre and the suburbs.

Is the port at Liverpool with several things to do? Thanks,
You dock right in the city centre. Loads of stuff, Beatles, Maritime heritage, Albert Dock, 2 World class Cathedrals to tour round. loads of excellent pubs to stop off at....etc...

I’ve searched, but can’t find anything, so want to confirm if anyone recently off the Regal saw any spiked seltzer at the bars (i.e. White Claw, Truly). Wife was asking and I know it was not on board last March. Seems like seltzer has grown in popularity, but cruise lines may be a bit behind the trend still.
What's spiked seltzer??
Cruise lines do take time to catch up though. Pink Gin as been massive in the UK for quite a few years now, but nowhere to be seen on Princess ships.
Which Muster?
in P&O Cruises ( UK )
