  1. I know she was refurbished a couple of years ago. I understand she is old and showing her age a bit but as long as she is clean and the staff is helpful and friendly, I'm OK

Can anyone who has recently sailed on her give me some info?

    Thanks!

We were on Summit last August. She is definitely showing her age in places - rust stains in our bathroom shower, a chipped bathroom mirror, some other "aging" issues - BUT the crew is fantastic and try really hard to keep everything clean. The signs of age we saw just couldn't be cleaned up.

It's definitely a smaller ship with a different vibe than Celebrity's S-class ships.

  2. I don't really agree with that, and if they are, you would need a ruler to find the differences. Summit was built pre-concierge and some of their rooms are less desirable imho.

If you are chasing after Captains club points and the cost is only slightly more than a balcony I would consider it.

However for me, Captain's Club points are not an issue and on Summit I would only do Concierge if the price was the same as a balcony or very close, and sometimes they are.

The afternoon canapés are nothing, the bottle of sparkling wine is nice, but not worth more than 30, and the better beach bag is worth about 10 dollars to me....

I agree with all of this. We cruised Aqua Class, which might as well have been CC, on Summit last August. The room was no bigger than the balcony room next door. The perk we liked the most was bottled water.

  3. We are going to Bermuda in late July. On all of our prior cruises, before the ship leaves the initial port, the temperature in our rooms is pretty high. Does anybody have experience with high temperatures in their rooms for the three days in Bermuda?

    Thanks!

We were on Summit in Bermuda last August and had absolutely zero issues with temperature. We were in cabin 9086.

  4. Traveling to Barbados on AOTS Feb 9th. Looking for a nice quiet beach, chairs available, lunch available, restrooms, small surf, no bothersome locals and what you would consider totally enjoyable. A day pass facility would be great but every recommendation would be considered in the decision. Thanks ahead.

Take a taxi to Worthing Beach (should cost around $20 for two of you if you go privately), which is on the south coast (I'm sure you've never heard of it!). You can also take the bus - I'm not sure which one though. You'll be looking for one going to Oistin's or St. Lawrence Gap. The beach is all locals (who are minding their own business - NO beach vendors, except the guy selling chairs/umbrellas) and ex-pats who are spending time in Barbados. Only one small hotel and a few condos on the beach, so it's largely empty and definitely has no tourists.

The Carib beach bar has a great lunch menu: the flying fish is some of my favorite on the island, the fish cakes are to DIE for (I seriously dream about them) and the Banks is cold and cheap. The rest rooms are clean at the restaurant and the locals friendly - they'll happily call a taxi for you when you're ready to go back to the ship. There may or may not be changing rooms at the far end of the beach as well.

The surf is small, broken by an off-shore reef. Great for kids or non-swimming adults. My Dad, an ex-pat who lived in Barbados for four years, lived on this beach - it's my home away from home!

  5. Has anyone done Harrison Caves? How was it? Did you do it through the cruise ship or can you on your own? We are wondering if we can fit in a beach as well. Is it worth going to the caves?

    Thanks:)

I, personally, love the caves. The tour is well organized, there's not a lot of walking (if that's an issue) and even though I've been there a few times, they always impress me. Warning: you will get dripped on! No bats though, as an earlier poster asked.

However, if I had just one day in Barbados, I wouldn't go there. I'd go to the beach instead - I'd find a quiet strip of sand and a rum shack and get some flying fish and Banks :) The cave is kind of in the middle of nowhere (as most things in the middle of the island are) and you'd really only spend an hour or so there.

  6. Thanks for the information on Crane and Rockley beaches. I appreciate it!

I'm certain it wasn't Bermuda - haven't been there yet, but it's on the list!

Those beautiful pics have whet my appetite for some beach time. :)

Having been to Barbados a gazillion times (including to the Crane beach), I can officially say that I had no idea the Crane had pink sand and that the fee that's associated with that beach isn't worth it in the hopes that the sand looks pink that day. Lots of powerdy white stuff on your way to and from the other side of the island...

  7. Yes that sounds about right. If you want to start in the gap there is a bus stop just about 50 yards or so after you pass the gap. If you walk to the Fairchild Street Bus Terminal and take either an Airport or Sam Lord's Castle bus they will take you right by there. Just tell the driver you want to get to St. Lawrence Gap.

Some restaurant recommendations along the boardwalk (not that you asked...) Tapas for a nicer (excellent) meal or Blakey's for a great patio, drink specials and food.

  8. Bouganvillea is a well-run hotel, popular -with many repeat customers!

It's on the Maxwell Coast Road, off the busy South Coast Main Road.

Stay there and you'll be all right ;)

    .

This is where you should stay! Head to the Carib Beach Bar near by for the best flying fish on the island, and just down the road is Surfside Restaurant, which has the second best :)

  9. You could.......or you could just shop at the pier -- they have a big selection in their store there :)

I've been to Earthworks many times, as my Dad used to live on the island as an ex-pat. Unless you're absolutely married to the idea of going to the original, this is an excellent suggestion. A map will tell you the original is about a 20 minute drive, but it can take much longer (as with all things on the island!). There is a small gift shop next to the original that sells Bajan items - similar to what you'd find near port. There isn't much around the store either, especially if you're just there for the day. I've never seen pottery demonstrations or anything like that, so you're really just taking a cab to shop and then leave.

I love their pieces, but they are not cheap. Most of the larger, utility type pieces (bowls, plates, etc) start around $30US and go way up from there. One of my favorite pieces is the little dish below which I use as a catch-all for my earrings and watch :) Enjoy!

  10. We're on the Celebrity Reflection in April and, like other ships, don't arrive until 3pm, departing at 10pm.

This gives us about 3.5 hours of daylight.

We've never been to PR, but don't want to try to cram everything in, since it's easy to get to.

What are your top recommendations? We're an early 30s couple - love culture, architecture, history & good food.

    Thanks!

  11. This is by far the most heart tugging thread ever on CC.

Jim, Carol is with you now and forever. Her ashes at sea is one of the most beautiful tributes you could do for her.

That was a very nice memorial that RC wrote for the ceremony, something you should have framed for your home.

I hope you enjoy the remainder of your cruise, Carol is with you!! :)

Ditto! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. And, I totally agree, the greek salad is one of the best reasons to cruise!
