  1. Hi,

I remember reading something about a really great lobster shack at or near Peggy's cove. Unfortunately I didn't bookmark it during my initial search. You could stop by and pick out your lobster and after visiting PC it would be ready. Does this sound familiar to anyone? We leave in a week so wanted to add to my notes (renting a car in Halifax).

    Thanks,

  2. Parking is pricey in and around Seattle. Downtown Seattle hotels even charge their own guests $25-$30 a day to park.

Google 'park and stay seatac' to find sites such as this one:

The Sleep Inn gets great reviews on the West Coast Departures forum. They used to have a park and stay option, plus they partner with Seattle Express for a shuttle to the pier.

Or consider parking at Smith Cove Parking for $140 a week. MAkes life much easier ... you can stay at a budget place outside Seattle the night before and be on your way post-cruise immediately.

    Thanks MapleLeaves.

  3. Yes it would be the same cruise. My TA got a verbal from RCI that once the ship clears customs on the 2nd we are free to leave. You need to inform the ship of your intentions. Being from central PA we are driving to Newark airport, taking a taxi to the port then flying from Quebec to Newark.

After looking at excursions for Quebec and thinking about the potential the taxi may not show up we are going to take a taxi to Quebec airport when we get in on the 2nd and pick up a rental car, tour on our own and park at the port then use that to get to the airport at 4 am.

Thanks for the information. It hadn't occurred to me to fly home on the 2nd or real early on the 3rd. We'd be flying to Vegas so it is a long flight.

  4. Another question regarding Port of Quebec. I will be sailing into Quebec on 2 Oct. The ship will be in port 2-3 Oct. Anyone have experience with availability of taxi's very early, like 4 am, at the port as I'm considering a 6 am flight on 3 Oct.

I have never left a ship early in the AM when the ship has docked the night before. Are there any issues (assume we have to handle all our bags)? What about customs? Sounds like we are on the same cruise - 10 day Legend of the Seas - 9/23-10/3

  5. We just booked County Inn and they quoted $35/pp rt shuttle. We only need one way and have no need to return to the hotel. Do you know if they do the shuttle one way only? We ask and the reservation agent didn't know. We plan on using the airport shuttle from the port on the way home. If not, we will just get a cab I guess. Also, they mention a "pantry" where you can buy snacks, beer and wine. If the wine is by the bottle then this would solve our problem of where to pick up two bottles to bring on board.

I've booked the CI for a 10 day CA/NE cruise that ends up in Quebec. I called and asked about the shuttle to the ship one way. They checked for me and said it would be $17/pp one way. Looks good for the two of us.

  6. Aa.com is American Airlines. Sometimes they have very good deals and sometimes not. Their price for your date is higher than your price.

When aa.com has a deal on a Marriott property, it is often possible to use Marriott's Look No Further guarantee to get the room at 25% off the aa.com rate. This can work well for hotels in NYC and Boston, but usually not for Newark Airport hotels.

Carol, thanks for the quick response. I've been reading thru the thread but there are a lot of pages. I never thought to try an airlines website to book a hotel.

  7. Does anyone have a recommedation regarding Hop On Hop Off tours? I've ruled out the Big Bus, but still undecided regarding Big Pink and the Trolley Co.

Does Vancouver get cruise ships in every day or just on certain days? We arrive on Sunday, but if Monday is lighter in cruise ships we can delay a day and schedule Victoria for Sunday.

    Thanks in advance,

  8. I've been reading many of the postings and have learned a lot, several of my questions have already been answered. The info on the time needed for YVR was really appreciated.

We will be arriving in Vancouver on HAL on Sept 9, 2012, but start our Alaska trip on Aug 26th. I have the Days Inn reserved but would like to do better price or quality wise. When do you recommend that I start checking Hotwire or bidding on Priceline? I've used both sites for car rentals, but not hotels. For cars, I do it about two weeks out.

    Thanks so much

  9. Make sure that if they are in your checked luggage that they are not with anything else that might be checked. For instance, I always bring cans of tomato juice and soda which they have always checked and passed through. However, if the rum runners are with these items in the same bag, chances are that they will be discovered when checking on the sodas. I even had a friend who lost hers because they were in the same piece of baggage with her snorkeling vest. They opened it due to the CO2 inflation cylinder and discovered the rum runners.

This will be our first cruise on RCI. We will go without our 4oz of wine each evening, but can we bring water bottles and soda cans in our checked luggage? If we can't, how about a few empty water bottles - fill them at the sink (it is RO water)?

    Thanks,

  10. WOW, seems that things are the same today as they were 20 years ago when I was in Martinique...Heres the short version of how my day started..First we book a tour with the ship, get to the start location and meet the cab driver for the first part of the tour. After the 4 of us get into the cab I noticed the driver was more interested in getting us from point A to point B as quick as he could. I wanted to take a few photos So I asked him, several times, if he would stop at several points so we could take a photo...NO NO he does not speak or understand english, OK I can buy that. But to his surprise and mine, one in the couple with us was a French teacher back home, so she asked for him to stop, guess what? Now he does not understand French..So I say to him very nicely as I could at this time as I reached over and grabbed the keys in the ignition, NEXT TIME I ASK YOU TO STOP AND YOU DON'T THEN YOUR KEYS GO OUT THE F------ WINDOW:D...WOW it was a miracle, he now not only understands English but he also speaks it...

Later we hear that very few ships stop at this Island because the locals do not really want them here...But hey what the heck I will be going back someday as it is a beautiful island...Have fun we do...OH, for any that wonder, yes I did get several photos as he stopped each and every time he was asked...:)

I was there over 20 years ago too. They don't rely on tourism and it showed. Not only a bad taste of Martinique but of the French. Think we will take a ship's tour or skip the port.
