We will be on the Valor in our first aft cabin (6483) which has a wrap around balcony. How private in this type of balcony? Sometimes my wife and I at late night like to play;) on the balcony. Is there much of a overhang or can other look down on to it? Please don't kick me in the aft for asking the question:D

I just checked the website and it let me log in. I sail Dec 30, 2017 and it lets me see my cruise details.

We have always found booking a cruise one or two weeks before Christmas has some pretty cheap prices. We have sailed a couple times during that time and have gotten balcony cabins half the price you normally see.
-
So do you have to do the entire course or is their a shortcut to get to the planks?
Thanks to all for the information!!!

No, you actually walk off the end and then they fish you out of the water, it's very refreshing! ;p
Awww, yes Captain Jack Sparrow told me that once and I nearly died :D

Thanks for the quick reply.
Very cool. So you just walk out there and then come back?

What exactly is this activity on the Escape? I think I may want to try it:cool:

Is there a way to find out which ship of Carnival's is using this system? For me it will be Valor at the end of December 2017. I always like to be prepared for changes.

We always prepay with our booking.....it is just part of the cost of a wonderful vacation. Be sure to take extra cash just in case you feel someone has gone out of their way to make your vacation...

Incorrect. Bars are open when you step aboard. TABC laws here require alcohol served in US waters to have a tax paid on them. Carnival keeps two inventories at each bar and serves the tax paid beer and hard liquor until the ship reaches international water (12 nautical miles) from Galveston. Unless you are right at a bar you'd never see the changeover happen. In a few minutes beer coolers are locked, others are opened and liquor bottles are swapped. The entire process takes ten minutes or less.
Fog: we've averaged eleven departures and arrivals delayed on an annual basis for the past five years. That's spread across two full time and one part time cruise line from here. It's not fun if it happens to you, but know it's rare.
In 2017 we'll have six ships sailing from here either part time or full time. They sail full, and aren't heavily discounted. Something's working.
Have a super trip.

You wanted stories, so here goes:
A heads up on sailing from Galveston in the winter: FOG. Not playing a Debbie Downer, but the reality is Gulf departures risk being delayed and shortened because of it. I did a B2B this past January on the Freedom. Our first leg was to start on Saturday, 1/13/17 and both the Valor and Freedom were due to dock. The port was closed until the wee hours of Sunday (which was the port schedule for the Breeze and Liberty of the Seas). They brought in the Valor and LOS first and then the Freedom into the port but she couldn't dock at the cruise terminal until the Valor left. We set sail in the wee hours of Monday morning. All 3 Carnival ships were shortened by one day. We lost a port because of it.
Then on our second leg - you got it: FOG. We couldn't come into port and sat parked outside the port until it lifted. Disembarkation was delayed 6 hours. We set sail about 5 hours late is all on that one. Thankfully, our return from the second leg arrived as scheduled so I didn't have to redo flights. A lot of people from the 1/13 and 1/20 sailing did.
I might sail out of Galveston in the future - but never, never ever again in the winter.
So when delayed from leaving port by fog, I am guessing Texas liquor laws don't allow the ship bars to open until the ship sails out. Correct?
Only time I plan on fog is when I wake up after New Year's Eve and my head is all foggy :D

We typically decorate our door. Usually something different each time. Not sure how good you are with photo editing software, but once I took a image of a porthole (make sure it is not copyrighted) off the net and then put a photo of our cabin inside the porthole so it looked like you were looking in to our cabin. Last time we did a beach theme removable stickers. We like to decorate to make it easier to find our room, especially after a few drinks;p. What I have seen on other doors; a dry erase board where people would leave notes to other they are sailing with, balloons, full door decorations (one sheet that covers the entire door), bows. Be creative and put your own spin on it, show your personality.
Out next cruise is during New Year's Eve, so we will probably go with that theme.
Have a great cruise.

Thanks all for the post of your experiences. Glad to know a large corporation like Carnival has my back in times where you do not hear of it much, like the airlines! Oh did I just type that out loud? Oh wait I guess the airline does have your back as long as it is being dragged along the floor of the plane:D. Dang I did it again, my fingers just don't know when to shut up!;)

Some people measure age in years. Some others measure it in ...... well 1.5oz increments.
Well it is much more fun to measure age by 1.5 oz. Cheers to getting older :D

Yes I looked at mine yesterday and can see all of my cruise cash purchases. Go to the cruise manager and click on the "my billing" tab. Scroll all the way down and you'll see all of your fun shop orders listed.

I am slowly building up my OBCs using Carnival cruise cash, but cannot find anywhere on my Carnival account (through the website) to see the balance of my OBCs.
Does anyone know where to find this information?
Thanks in advance!!

We were on a Princess cruised (owned by Carnival) and went to the casino, but forgot to cash out (we may or may not of had one too many drinks;)). Well today I received a $237.00 check from Carnival marked as casino e-bank balance. Bravo Carnival for you honesty:halo:! I would have totally forgot about this due to my old brain, but I am blaming it on the alcohol:)

St Paddy reminds me too much of bad times as in paddy wagon:D interestingly enough you still knew what I was talking about;). This was meant to be a fun conversation no a school room conversation. I deal with enough PC while at my very corporate job.

We have been using the Command hooks, they have the large one that holds 5 lbs. Those and over the door shoe organizer are our go to things for organizing the cabin. We use the shoe organizer to put all of our small stuff in, My wife gets a lot of use out of it.

 Wow! After all of this, did Scomar's question get answered? Loved the discussion. Cheers everyone!
Well sort of. But I do need a green beer know after being in history class. Just like in high school:D

Here in the US things are wonky. Heck, they dye the entire river green in Chicago. As usual, leave it to us here in the US to get things wrong. I am of Scots/Irish/English/Okie decent. Talk about a bit of a mishmash...
I hear the Caribbean Sea will be turned green this year. I am only quarter Irish so I can not truly use the entire St. Patrick's Day wording, it is an old Irish rule that you can only use part of the name if you are not full Irish;)

AM or PM ?
Heck we are on a cruise make it AM and PM:D

Yes, it was a Budget shuttle that ran continuously.
We caught it just outside of terminal 2, at a traffic island where all the different shuttles dropped off & picked up.
Thanks for the info!

Thanks for all the great info.
I see a few people have mentioned a free shuttle, I assume that shuttle is supplied by Budget?
If so where do you go to catch the shuttle?

OK, after looking at exterior photos and counting the cove balconies that are not under the lifeboats, then comparing to deckplans. Here is a list of cabins which do not have lifeboats over them.
2268-2272-2276-2280-2293(confirm by youtube video)-2297-2301-2305-2408-2412-2414-2437-2439-2441
Hope this helps out anyone looking for a cove without a lifeboat above it. I know I found very little info on this subject.
