  1. I'm honestly not too worried about the kids. I am waiting until they are over three, so they will be potty trained and can use the pools. They will be able to use the kids club for a little bit if they like it (but I'm not hung up on if they do to the kids club or not). I actually think toddlers are easier to entertain then older kids who want minigolf, water slides, etc. At three they will be too young for most of that, and not know yet what they are missing!

  2. My father had a stroke two years ago, and is left using a walker and a wheelchair. He can walk 100 yards or so with the walker. He can transfer into or out of a regular car, but cannot step up into a large van or bus.

My husband and I would like to take my parents, as well as our toddler twins on a cruise next year. We will start easy with a Caribbean cruise. Of the mainstream lines, is any cruise line better for disabled travel? They will have a handicapped room and we will rent him a scooter so that no one is stuck pushing him all the time. I'm thinking most of the mainstream lines would be similar, but one might have better handicapped rooms or better accessible excursions. Any thoughts?

  3. We used Family air in 2015. I liked that we were a group of 4 and had a private trip. I remeber Island wing's plane holds more people, but I could be wrong. It was great. The weather in Ketchican was cloudy, but as promised it was perfect in misty fjords. As Dave said, he wouldn't take people out in bad weather, because he'd get tons of complaints and business would go down.

  4. What ship are you on? One or two of the smaller Norwegian ships have open bar, and all the ships have the Ultimate Beverage Package which is either for sale, or you could have selected as a free perk during a sale (which seems to be always running). The two operate differently, so to help you we need to know which you have.

  5. While not cruising solo, one night my hubby was sea sick so I went to dinner in one of the MDRs by myself. They asked me to wait a few minutes while they gather table mates and within 5 mins I was seated with two other women my age. So if you are flexible to wait a little bit, finding dinner companions should not be hard. I would expect to eat alone or with pre arranged people at specialty restaurants. And don't be shy to talk to people, especially in the bars. We are always up for talking to new people. We have found some nice friends on cruises.

  6. It's been several years since we went, but at the time I didn't find any besides Rick Steves that you could get in advance. And I didn't research in advance what attractions had them for rent. I really like Rick Steve's because he has both city walls and single attraction guides. Just remember to have everyone bring their own headphones and download in advance onto their device. Only I had them, so my husband and I each took one earbud, which would have been fine, but in really crowded places like the acropolis, it was hard to stay that close together all the time. I just checked my app. He only has Athens tours in Greece. He has a bunch of cities in Italy covered if you are stopping in some Italian ports too.

  7. This is exactly why we did mainly ship tours on our Mediterranean cruise. By the time we added a tour guide so we understood what we were seeing along with a driver, the tours were really expensive. We had a pretty quiet role call, so not many opportunities to share either. My husband's not really a big tour guy, so we balanced ship tours in some cities (such as olympia) with self tours in places that Rick Steves that good audio guides (such as Athens- he has the acropolis as well as the agora and a city tour). They can be downloaded to your phone in advance so you don't even need an internet connection. We took public transport and used the audio guides, but you could also combine those with a driver.

  8. I really wanted to do glacier bay, but we love celebrity which doesn't do glacier bay. After finding a balcony price that was SO much lower than the cruises that went to glacier bay, we booked the Tracy arm cruise. The small ship excursion that for you closer to the glaciers was one of our favorite parts of the whole cruise. But be sure to book that part as soon as you see it. It has to be booked through the cruise line, and sold out in March for our cruise.

  9. No, we didn't walk on the glacier, but got pretty close. Lunch was nothing exciting in 2015. A sandwich, some trail mix, a few other items. You are in the middle of nowhere, so facilities are pretty limited for doing anything more elaborate. We loved it! We got to get out of the canoe and walk near the glacier. I'll try to figure out how to post a picture.

  10. I booked a september Bermuda cruise about 4 years ago 6 days before the cruise. For an inside cabin, the prices stayed consistent since January. For the balcony and above cabins, the prices were astronomically high the week before sailing.

  11. I completely disagree with th3 advise to avoid museums. Your kids are the perfect age for museums - as long as you are interested in them too. At art museums you can play I spy (look for things in pictures such as a dog). At historic sites you can talk about how things were dufferent a long time ago. I would choose museums carefully to pick ones that would best match your kids interests, but museums and historic sites are definately something you can enjoy as a family!
