  1. I was on this cruise, It was a planned stop, originally scheduled for 7:00-13:00,  but changed to 7-11. It was for immigration purposes. We had to leave the ship, go through immigration which consisted of pretty low-tech facial recognition: immigration officials looking at your passport, looking at your face, saying OK and we were free to go back onboard. This was in lieu of customs & immigration in NYC.

  2. I had also asked the stwardto remove the items in the fridge, but he left a couple of bottles of water and one carton of the NCL water in a drawer, with the price tags attached. That carton was cost $5 and I believe it was a liter. The free ones we got were .5 liters.

  3. We just got off the Getaway today. We had four cartons of water, two for each of us. I was looking for the bottle of sparkling wine which is usually in the cabin upon embarkation, but it was not provided -- no big loss. However, a couple of days later I happened to check the wine bucket and there was a bottle of  a pretty decent sauvignon blanc being chilled. Go figure.

So boarded the Breakaway n March 6th with absolutely o problem with the Walgreens drive through proctored test. Before you show your cruise documents security checks your negative test paperwork mainly looking for negative results and the date it was taken. They do take the 48 hour prior very serious.

Thanks for posting. We took the Walgreens test (says "rapid NAAT test" on the results page). and will be boarding the Breakaway this morning.

I tried looking on the CVS website.  It sounds like it will try to bill your health insurance.  Not sure what your health insurance would think of covering the test for travel.

Has anyone been through CVS testing travel?

We got a Covid test at CVS in NYC before our trip to St. Maarten this summer. CVS did not ask for the reason for our test. They billed our insurance and we did not pay anything out of pocket.

  6. I don't know if they still allow this, but on our last cruise (March 2019) I went to guest services and asked them to add the tips for the butler, concierge and steward to their on-board accounts, using refundable OBC from our TA. I wrote a thank you note to each, to thank them, and telling them about their tips in their accounts.

OP was having "a special dinner"....not just one dinner.  Why should he have to put up with other people's inconsiderateness?  If this happened in the buffet....I'd agree about getting over it.  But Cagney's is promoted as upscale.  Their behavior was not upscale.

I agree that their behavior was not "upscale." But asking them to suddenly, miraculously become "upscale" is bound to misfire, potentially creating an even worse situation. As a previous poster commented, "you can't fix stupid."

Does anyone know if there is access at Blue Lagoon island Beach for snorkeling or should we book an excursion.  We are going in March.  Also, will the water temp be conducive for this?

The access to snorkeling is very rocky. It is across the lagoon, in open water. We've been to Blue Lagoon twice, both times in March, and the open water was too cold for me (the lagoon is shallow and protected, and hence warmer.) We did bring our gear, but it was not worth the effort to try to use it. I would recommend that you book an excursion.

  9. I don't think you can blame technology on people being rude and inconsiderate, especially when in a large group. Your gang of 12 would no doubt have been just as loud even if they weren't face timing. And I personally don't think that the poor overworked waitstaff should also act as the noise police. I'm sure that many of us have had the same experience of a loud, boorish party being seated near us, at least we have. Our solution was to finish our entrees, skip dessert and take the rest of our wine to someplace more quiet and civilized.

Very possible.  But I was in a hospital, so the technical aspects of medical devices on my body weren't a priority.  Still, I remember the nurse and other staff saying how my blood pressure was too high, so they couldn't start the procedure until it came down.  I argued back with: "I'm in a hospital!  Do you really expect me to relax like it's a yoga class!?"  (In reality, I hate yoga, but I wanted to get my message across in a way they'd understand.)  They relented, did the procedure, and I was discharged a few hours later.  I felt mostly fine next morning at home.

Finger blood pressure monitors do exist, but they are notorious for giving false readings. If your hospital was using that type of b.p. monitor to check your blood pressure it is no wonder that it read your blood pressure as being too high. I am surprised, though, that a hospital would use that kind of b.p.monitor. Whenever I have a medical appointment the nurse routinely checks my b.p. using an upper arm cuff and my oxygen level using a fingertip oximeter.

I went to the Dr the day before I left for my cruise.   He specifically told me not to take my blood pressure monitor on the cruise because if I was cruising correctly it would be inaccurately low dud to lack of stress

I hope you all have the same result!

    Soo funny!

  12. I forgot to mention that the b.p. monitor also gives a reading of your pulse. And as another poster mentioned. an oximeter (that's the little gizmo that clips on your finger to measure your oxygen level) is a good thing to have, since low oxygen levels is another sign of possible Covid. All of these are available from any pharmacy, medical supply store, and, of course, Amazon.

My doc asked me to get my B.P. checked every week if possible. Is it possible to get a B.P. check without incurring the fee for seeing a doctor?

You can buy blood pressure monitors from any number of vendors: Walgreens, CVS, Amazon, etc. I would suggest you get one with the upper arm cuff. I have the Omron one which works well for me.

If I may ask, what period of time did your husband grow up in Monticello, as I always have lived here. Just wondering if it is someone I might have known (small town).

My in-laws moved to Monticello when my husband was a baby (he was born in 1950). He went to Monticello High School and then to college. His parents lived on Green Street until 2010 or thereabouts.

  15. My husband and I never wanted to cruise because we had no interest in regimented, set-time dining with strangers  and formal, dress-up nonsense. It wasn't until NCL and it's free style format that we really got into cruising. We were asked once on an early cruise whether we wanted to dine with others but we declined. I suspect that

(BTW ontheweb,  ( my husband grew up in Monticello.)

  16. When I renewed my passport I also ordered a passport card. I use the passport to check in for flights and cruises, and the passport card as ID when I leave the ship. (I fought very hard to get an enhanced driver's license, but lost that fight because they wanted a two documents with my middle name. The only document that has my middle name is my passport.
