    Hello all

Congratulations for starting this interesting original and beneficialĀ  topic.

We are going on our first inside cabin cruise, 16 night Norwegian cruise. and have some concerns and questions about it and am therefore turning to all you experienced sailors.

Please be candid, if you think we are making a mistake, we can still cancel with minimal penalty.

    1. I suffer a bit from asthma. It has happened on previous cruises that I at night had to go out on the balcony toĀ  the fresh air. Saying that ,our cabin is near the exit to the pool, so I can nip outside in a sec. What is the air quality in an inside cabin like?

    2. Could you please share any tips about using the self service laundromats on princess cruises?

    3. The price of the cheapest balcony was 2200$ higher than our inside cabin, so we decided to chance the trip as the itinerary is perfect.

    4. All forums dealing with inside cabins I have come by just include long shopping lists. Nice to know but this forum deals with the nitty gritty of traveling.

    5. Is the lighting in the bathroom sufficient so make sure that ones face is up to par? Is there a makeup mirror, lighting?

    Thanks

    Karyn

    Ā

    1) My son has asthma and has never had any trouble in any inside cabin on any ship.Ā
    Ā

    2) Easy to use, you pay for tokens for washers/driers and detergent/drier sheets with your medallion via dispensing machines. Running times for the machine are posted on the walls.Ā
    Ā

    3) Prices for insides are significantly cheaper than other grades which is why we generally book them, Iā€™d rather have two cruises inside than one cruise with a balcony.

    Ā

    5) Bathroom lighting is the same as in all the other grades.Ā

Like others, I really like the sideways interiors. As a solo I usually book inside. Mainly for cost reasons but also because if I have no outside space it makes me go out and about more and socialise.Ā

Conversely we donā€™t like the sideways cabins due to the bedroom section being right next to front door, we prefer the (slight) separation.

Agree with this - the pizzas are constantly coming out of the oven so itā€™s really not an issue. And we much prefer the great thin crust pizza at Slice. Iā€™ve never been a huge fan of the restaurant pizza at either venue.Ā

Before the cover charge was introduced, Alfredoā€™s/Gigiā€™s, for me, was just an alternative venue for lunch, and thatā€™s probably about as far as Iā€™d go with endorsing it. We had the option to dine there on our last cruise as part of the Plus Package but we didnā€™t bother, weā€™ve never been able to see what all the fuss was all about.

So if I walk up with a big tray and say give me all the pizza you have cooked and everyone behind me can just wait that is ok ?

Iā€™ve taken four slices in one go, they never mentioned there was a maximum amount you could take. They normally have one pizza ready to go and one in the oven at any one time so youā€™d essentially be able to walk off with one full pizza at best.

    Ā

On a question of quality Iā€™d say Slice is better than Alfredoā€™s, even more so Ā now that you have to pay for the privilege of Alfredoā€™s/Gigiā€™s.

Our last cruise we noticed there was some massive inefficiency with OceanNow.

    Ā

Could be on a table near a bar the ocean now order would come from a different bar/bar pantryĀ  rather than the nearest bar that had table servers.

    Ā

Often easier to just order through the servers.

When it works itā€™s fantastic, but when it doesnā€™t youā€™re just hanging around not sure when your order is going to turn up, sometimes it never does. Weā€™ve just decided to go back to servers or going to the bar ourselves. In a nutshell, itā€™s a complete waste of time.

This will be our 2nd Princess cruise (first was in 2017) and we have a few questions.

    Ā

    1. The booking is on my husbands name. Can I link this booking to my personal Princess account?Ā

    2. We will be travelling with my parents. We have different staterooms but the same booking number. We both have the Premier Package and we would like to use the specialty dining together. How can I make reservations in the app for the 4 of us?

    3. What casual dining options are there onboard Sapphire Princess that come with the Premier Package? Can we use this for lunch and diner?

    4. We are in a mini suite on Dolphin deck. We are doing a 10 night Carribean cruise in October. Will the uncovered balcony be a problem?

    5. Is there any way to find out when the formal nights will be on a cruise?

    6. The cruise is to celebrate my parents 50th wedding aniversary (although the exact date of their aniversary is in May). Does Princess do something to make it special for them and how can I let them know? We will buy my parents the Balcony Dinner as our present for them.

    Ā

Lots of questions..hope some of you experienced Princess cruisers can help.

    Ā

    Thank you!

    Lindsay (&Siegfried)

With regards to point six Iā€™d definitely organise something yourself, in the last 13 months we have had our honeymoon and anniversary and, other than ā€œHappy Honeymoon/Anniversaryā€ appearing when we tapped on the interactive screens, there was absolutely nothing from Princess.

She has received the response she deserved, you defend companies as if they paid you when they fail to fulfill their services in an almost fraudulent way (canceling a cruise with 4 days left without giving any type of information with the pain that this causes to families and couples who have organized their vacations well in advance), you are people without any empathy.

Nobody is defending Princess, more a case of saying itā€™s a bit of a gamble going on a shipā€™s first sailing as you may experience numerous problems or, in extreme cases, a cancellation. One close friend took his family on a ridiculously cheap Royal Caribbean inaugural cruise and had to deal with half of the ship being closed and flooding issues but, as he said when he returned, I guess thatā€™s why it was cheap. Iā€™d never sail on a ship that hadnā€™t been in service for at least 2-3 months.

So why are people screaming about cancelled cruise. I would expect this and never book a new ship that far out. If you book a brand new cruise ship you should expect issues

    Ā

Probably because the oneā€™s who are screaming the loudest are those self important, comped cruise vloggers who simply have to be the first on board. I couldnā€™t imagine a place as awful as an inaugural cruise nowadays, itā€™s like a floating Whicker Island.

Does that mean you now had 2 of your 15 allowed? The 15 total number of drinks will be quickly used if you have to double order them. I thought 15 was more than enough and now I am thinking they offer 15 to make up for the Ocean Now app

These were sodas so they donā€™t count towards the 15. You may be right though about the seemingly high daily limit.

This is good information, thanks to everyone for sharing. I wonder what happens when you don't have a package and a drink that you ordered doesn't show up? Will they still charge you? (We're going on our first Princess cruise soon and are still figuring out some of the details šŸ™‚)

You have to get them removed by visiting guest services. We were on a drinks package and we donā€™t use anywhere near our 15 drinks a day allowance so if they didnā€™t show up we werenā€™t duly concerned, but if youā€™re paying as you go I reckon having to keep track of lost drinks and then reporting them missing in action to avoid a $15 plus tip charge I figure it would become very tiresome, very quickly.

  11. Just did a Princess excursion post cruise with an airport drop off at Fort Lauderdale. We were supposed to be dropped off between 12:30pm and 12:45pm but it ended up being 1:15pm as the coach driver had parked illegally (not for the first time, according to the traffic officer) and was getting ticketed, there was then argument between the tour guide and the traffic officer. At the airport we were told we had to stay on the bus until all the bags were unloaded (another ten minutes which pushed our arrival to almost an hour late. Once we were given the all clear to get off the coach the tour guide reminded us about how much work both herself and the driver had done today and that tips are appreciated, I wouldnā€™t have had the nerve to ask.

  12. Was on the Enchanted last week, we had numerous ā€œdeliveredā€ drinks that never showed up and numerous drinks that showed up after what youā€™d consider to be an unacceptable delay so, in the end, we either went to the bar and ordered or just flagged down passing crew members. I was in Princess Live to watch a football game, ordered a drink via Ocean Now at kick off, at half time it still hadnā€™t arrived, so I went to the bar and picked one up, ten minutes into the second half my order showed up and she looked bemused that I already had a drink, it really is a complete waste of everyoneā€™s time.

  13. Weā€™re currently onboard the Enchanted and both Mrs Chippy and myself have both apps installed. Iā€™ve ordered bathrobes to the room and Mrs Chippy has ordered four drinks for herself in various locations which were showing as delivered but never came, all via the new app. Weā€™re just going to use the old from now on or, most likely, just go to the bar ourselves.

Not dumb at all ,I had also asked this

    Question earlier, with no response

    Ā

Other than 7/7 completed or 6/7 completed, I see nothing else in NEW APP That actually says GREEN or BLUE lane like it is clearly obvious in OLD APP

maybe @Jimmys ChippyĀ or @tiggerrrĀ can put up a screen shot of what they see, relative to them in New App

Or highlight exactly where they see their Green or Blue status šŸ˜Ž

    Ā

    ThanksĀ

How would this benefit Princess? They already have you where they want you. If anything they need to add a level in between Platinum and Elite.Ā

Iā€™m Platinum, letā€™s be honest, thereā€™s really nothing worth writing home about in terms of perks until youā€™re Elite. The biggest discount Ā for Platinum guests is for internet discount, which turns out to be a white elephant if you choose Princess Plus/Premium.

So I see we got a minor update in the app to deal with the timeout issues. Ā Will be interesting to see if that works. Not sure what the update is around green lane consistency is. Didnā€™t help me. Iā€™m green lane on the old app and blue lane on the new app still because the new app demands the credit card for shoreside and the old one doesnā€™t.Ā

Weā€™re (correctly) blue on the old and (incorrectly) green on the new, going to be running both apps until the old one disappears.

Keeps timing me out with my account details so trying Iā€™m the booking reference. Iā€™m no Steve Jobs but could everyoneā€™s apps being constantly active on the ship (wether being used or not) be making speeds slower so Princess have decided to sign you out if youā€™re not using it? It might be a bit of a pain in the you-know-what having to log in but it may mean that your online experience might be slightly better.

    Update.

    Ā

It hasnā€™t auto logged me out when logging in with booking reference over a couple of hours ago. This is on an iPhone 13 (if that makes any difference to anything). As far as I can tell everything has been transferred across.
