  1. We're dynamic classic early. We generally eat at 6:00 and old habits are hard to break. We did the DD on Quantum and did not care for the hassle. We have also booked the three shows. I'm wondering what other entertainment they will have besides the lounge acts. 12 nights is a long time to only have 3 shows.

We have two pre-planned excursions and will do the rest on the fly. We've been to Jamaica and Grand Cayman before. Labadee is well, Labadee.

  2. Oh, Hi Rich!

    We're doing great...how are you's?

We were on the Liberty OTS last May, the Regal Princess in October, and the Breakaway a couple of weeks ago.

We are going on our very first Carnival (the new Vista) in November, and the Gem in April of '17.

We may try the Anthem some time in between, if we can snag a good deal...:)

Yeah...we give everyone a 'break'....hoping 'X' will bring a Solstice class or better, to Bayonne in the future...

    We've been doing well.

Following the "saga" of the Anthem. As Mel Brooks would say, "never give a saga an even break". We were on the Quantum in December, 2014. It seems that RCCL hasn't heard the phrase, "those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it". I know that corporate is working very hard on getting the f&b on Anthem straightened out. We'll see in a few weeks how successful they were.

While not a big fan of Norwegian, a lot of what I didn't like about them is not being implemented by RCCL. It is a lot cheaper for us to leave out of Manhattan than Bayonne. I don't like the idea of leaving my car there and we end up with a town car both ways. That pays for a LOT of LIRR fares.

I'm contemplating taking the Breakaway to Bermuda as our next cruise. We have done the Summit, but it is beginning to show its age.

    Take care and smooth sailing.

  3. Looking at the cruise planner for our March 7th cruise, there is no indication that there will be guest entertainers on board. For the 7 day cruise that we took on Quantum in December, 2014, they had guest entertainer one and guest entertainer two.

Does anyone know if there are in fact still guest entertainers on board? 12 nights is a long time to be on a ship with only three shows.

  4. Wonder if any of the passengers on board called the US Coast Guard. If for nothing else just to alert them of the situation they were experiencing. Just in case the ship did happen to, God forbid, start going down - the Coast Guard could be on the way....

A diabetic interviewed on WNBC NY said that he did call the Coast Guard from the ship.

  5. NEVER GO BACK for ANYTHING. That is equally applicable to a house fire where people feel the need to "rescue" some family item.

120mph winds and 30 foot seas would not be kind to a lifeboat. Launching, as previously mentioned, would be virtually impossible. Kind of going out of the frying pan and into the fire.

I had sent an email to the USCG regarding the lack of life jackets in cruise ship cabins. Their reply was that it was another lesson learned from the Concordia. That being said, hopefully everyone can get one at their muster station.

  6. Tug boats escorting the Anthem into port was not a good sign. I haven't seen that since the days of Carnival leaving out of the midtown NY Passenger Ship Terminal.

Unfortunately, the news helicopters only showed the dockside view of the ship. I was wondering if the tugs were on the other side assisting with the maneuvering.

While they can probably get a replacement azipod or bowthruster to Bayonne, the question of installation is something else. NYC does have adequate dry-dock facilities.

At some point a press release from either RCCL or USCG should be forthcoming.

  7. Maybe it's just something simple, like trying to time Anthem's arrival to coincide with the scheduled pilot and the berthing schedule? I've been on a few ships that slowed to a crawl for those reasons. I have no knowledge of this situation, just thinking this is a possibility.

    Judy

There's a whole support staff to deal with a ship's arrival. Lots of moving parts to get into place. WCBS radio said this morning that arrival wouldn't be until 9ish tonight.
