I also tried to book a single cabin and was actually told by an MSC agent to book a second person and then have the person be a no show. I wasn't comfortable with it but booked it that way. I kept watching my sailing and doing mock single bookings on line and at one point I was able to get a single. I called my travel agent the same day and they were able to switch my cabin to a single. The cost was a bit less but not by much but I felt better having the correct documents.

Has anyone used this service recently? Looking into it due to the fact that someone in my group has a child that will need a car seat. Please let me know your experiences.

I will be sailing with MSC and one of their excursions is Ochos Rios Beach Break. Does anyone know what beach they take you to and how far from port it is?
-
I would appreciate any thoughts on Junkanoo Beach for those that have been there recently. Can you rent chairs/umbrellas? Is the beach rocky? Are there restrooms? Any water sports? Food/drink?
-
Just got back from Calico Jacks and we paid $20 for two loungers, no umbrella (we didn't want one).
Chairs were bad, really bad and awful. But we did enjoy our time there once it quieted down.
How far is Calico Jacks from the pier?

No not by us....just that "landfill" smell on deck 10 midship.
Was your cabin on Deck 10 where the odor was? If so, would you mind telling me your cabin number?

It's Acqua Panna for the still water and San Pellegrino for the sparkling. 1 Liter plastic bottles.
Do they deliver the bottles to your stateroom or are you given vouchers and then get them at a bar or restaurant?
-
I've heard after final payment is made they give the 5% in onboard credit but not sure of it.

...."Also re today’s tour we have put in a complaint along with most of the other people who were on it!They said they will get back to us later so watch this space!..."
Nikki what was it that you were complaining about on the tour?
I never thought about saying anything to anyone onboard. I just put it down to poor choice on our part an expensive waste of time cruise trip and know better for next time.
Do you think they are taking the passengers compaints seriously enough that you will get some kind of recompense for it?
Will definitely be interested to hear what if anything they do.
A few years ago I took a tour through Royal Caribbean which I felt was terrible and complained about and was refunded half of the cost which I thought was fair.

I'm also interested in finding out this information. Any help would be appreciated.

- Bella category.
- No odours, heard they rectified the problem (appartently it was an air con issue)
- Went to Roy Yamaguchi speciality asian restaurant - 7 courses for $30 - cooked in front of you and very entertaining.
- Shows were great, beerpov comedy each night at 10.30pm was just ok
hi
Was your dinner seating in the main dining room or the buffet?
- Bella category.

Do you have to ask for your status match before you book?
I am with an agent, and they didn't seem to know about it. He led me to believe that it would be 5% off our next (ie second) booking - which didn't make sense to me?
I didn't push it. I am Emerald on Royal - is that worth bothering to status match?
Emerald on Royal should be Gold on MSC so definitely worth it. I had booked my cruise and then did my status match months later but before final payment and received the 5% discount.

What was your cabin number on Deck 10?

Sanitary issues are a big concern for me also but unfortunately I have seen these problems on other lines as well. When I was on a RC cruise I complained one day for people filling up water bottles when there was a sign right there asking them not to do it and staff stood by, said nothing, and watched them do it. On the NCL Breakaway I saw numerous issues on the buffet and felt that staff turned the other way. I hope MSC takes care of the issues you mention as it doesn't seem very hard to do.

MSC suggests booking flights after 12 noon from Miami and 1:00 from Fort Lauderdale. In the past I have booked earlier flights on other cruise lines but hesitant to do it this time since I'm not all that familiar with MSC.
-
Yes I was able to book a single cabin. Is that not normally possible on MSC?.
I don't know if it's normal or not but I tried to book a single cabin in May and was told I couldn't at that time and to book a double and have the "2nd" person as a no show.
-
Sorry for the double post.
Update; I booked!:D It was just 99.00 deposit. Now the long wait...over a year. But still good to have something great to look forward to for next year.:)
Were you able to book a single cabin?
-
I was recently on the Divina and was told by the future cruise consultants that they will sooner or later release cabins for singles, just keep checking.
Good to know. Thanks.

Does MSC refund taxes and port fees on no shows?
They told me they will refund taxes and port fees but who knows.
-
Bug - I realize that "singles" do pay a little bit more when cruising alone in a cabin. But why would MSC not even give me a price? I do not want to book for a double and pay port charges twice and take out extra insurance to cancel on of the "fake" passengers. That is not worth all the trouble. It is interesting that others are finding it impossible to book "single" cabin on MSC where so many of the other cruise lines are more accommodating toward singles. We all wanted to try the SeaSide after sailing on the Divina several times. Thank your for sharing your booking experience with me.
I understand and think it's ridiculous also.
-
This happens all the time with MSC. I would recommend you call MSC directly. This has worked for me in the past when I could not book through a TA or online with MSC.
I tried this but unfortunately no luck.
-
I had the same issue for May 2018 and was told by my travel agent and MSC to book as a double and then no show the 2nd person. I'm not really happy doing that but I've read on these boards of others that have done the same.
-
When in April are you sailing? We are part of a group of 350+/- sailing on the Seaside on April 28th.
Wow that is a big group you are travelling with.
-
I have the same issue with solo travel on the Seaside and was instructed to do just what you did. It doesn't make sense but may have to go along with it.
MSC Ochos Rios Beach Break
in Jamaica

I called MSC and the agent didn't seem to know the beach name but did say it's about a 45 minute drive.
