  1. We didn't have any problems this past July. We were prepared and had Bonine with in case we needed it, but never used it. We had much rougher seas when we were diverted last year because of a Tropical Storm in the Caribbean. We were supposed to go to St. Thomas, but went to the Dominican Republic instead. That night, was kind of rough for a few hours, but even still nothing serious.

The only time I've been seasick was on a glass bottom boat in Key West, which is often expected. You go below, to look through the glass, and it's really disorientating. I had to go up top after just a few minutes. My son came up shortly after, he threw up just a bit. And neither of us had any problems in Alaska.

  2. We booked it for this cruise, after having been there last year. I think it will be nice to have a place to dump some stuff we bring with us. We have a few extra people with us, and this way, we can leave some extra stuff there instead of dragging it back & forth from the beach and the pool. We went to both places last year. So for us, the cost isn't a big deal.

  3. We've only done Port Canaveral, so that's all I can compare it to, but I thought Seattle was much easier! We were at Pier 91 for our cruise. It was super easy getting dropped off by the shuttle bus we took from Enterprise. We walked right in, got checked in, not crowded at all, went through the security, etc... and walked right over to the lounge. There is a lot of seating too. We had FTTF for the first time, which was right next to or near the Platinum/Suite people. We got on right after them. It was much less crowded and hectic I felt, than PC.

  4. We did 4 days pre-cruise this summer and we crammed in a lot. We did some of those things you mentioned, including Snoqualmie Falls. But we rented a car for that day to go there. I can't speak of any public transportation to get there. The other parks were just too far for us to go in one day since we didn't get the car until mid-morning.

You can read about what we did when we were there...

  5. We did the Skagway Glacier Point Wilderness Safari and loved it!! It was a neat excursion, long one too. The guides that are out there really make the trip an experience. They truly love what they're doing.

We also did the helicopter ride up to Mendenhall Glacier and it was without a doubt the most exciting thing I've ever done. Worth every penny!! And I don't like to fly! LOL!!

You can read about those excursions in my report here...

  6. Can't speak about the younger one, but for the 13 year old, they will be in Circle C. My son has done that the past 2 cruises and loves it. They don't need to be signed in/out by parents, they can just show up when it's open. You need to communicate with your child what you expect from them. We've never had any problems, our son would usually pop by the room on occasion (like sea days, when he could be gone all day) and he always has times to be back. Like for dinner, be back by 4 p.m. or something like that. And same with the late night hours. Sometimes he could stay until they closed at midnight, but other nights, we wanted him back at 11. He's pretty good about doing what is expected.

I would just be sure to let your 13 year old know what is expected of the right from the beginning. And I agree about going on that first night. You have to fill out the paperwork anyway, and it's a great way for them to meet kids who will be there all week.

  7. What does one have to do with the other? YTD and the fixed seatings are not conmingled in the same dining areas.

When we were on the Legend this summer, we had YTD and we were at tables right next to people with set dinning times. So I don't know if this is what maybe happens on other ships then?

As far as time to show up, we would get there around 6 p.m. because we didn't want to be there late, our son wanted to go to Circle C, which opened around 8 or so. There was one night they had something going on in Circle C that he wanted to go to, so we went later, around 7:30ish since it was just the 2 of us. We weren't rushed then either. We never were, but also didn't go really late like some might.

  8. It appears I'm the only one who posted in this thread originally who still has a horse in this race!! ;)

I'm thrilled that our Cubbies have made it to the World Series, after 71 long years!!!!! And now, we just need 4 wins so I can have a drink and toast them when we go on our cruise in a few weeks!!! :D

  9. Ignore the "that's horrible" part. I think I misread something. They seem to have better deals at times than carnival such as the bit one get one and the kids sail free. The conversations about the lack of food is making me start to reconsider though. I would prefer to get enough food to eat and use the snack money to get an extra drink.

Haha! No problem! I was just a little confused! ;)

And keep in mind what I'm saying was 14 years ago. So definitely read what others have written. I'm a picky eater, I fully admit it.

  10. That's horrible. Their reviews are not as good as Carnival's. I just love the interior look of their ships more from the videos I've seen

Not sure what you're saying is horrible, the PG-13 shows? They were very funny! And these were ones that were smaller, in lounges and such. The ship was definitely older, smaller, etc... As I said, I don't remember there being many kids on the cruise at all.

The food, at that time, was definitely more upscale. I'm not a fancy food person. Give some grilled chicken, potatoes, and I'm good. So for me, the food was a bit over the top. There were a few times when I had a hard time finding something to eat. But my parents and husband loved it!

Again, I wouldn't see any reason to go with them again. We just had an amazing buy one, get one free deal, that's why we tried it. It was our first cruise, 12-days and included the Panama Canal!! :D

  11. It's funny, out first cruise was 14 years ago, and was on the MSC Melody. They were still pretty new to cruising I think. A few years later when we did Carnival, we saw how much better some things could be. But, at the time, I will say MSC had much better entertainment. The cruise we did (12-days) was mostly adults about about 50% Europeans. The shows were a bit more PG-13 for sure, but we loved it. I would say the food was a bit more upscale as well. Again, this is 14 years ago, but just sharing. ;)

  12. I'm hoping for this with my oldest son. When we cruise he'll be less than a week away from 12, and he'd have more fun if he could be with his 13 year old sister.

We found that with Circle C, it depends on the amount of kids on the ship. Last year, on the Valor, there weren't that many kids. So they did allow a sibling who was I think 11, join his sister. But this summer, on the Legend, they didn't allow anyone outside of the 12-14 age range to be included.

  13. We took our time getting off the ship this past July (Carnival) and walked right off with our luggage around 9:00 a.m. We called our car service and they were there in just a few minutes. The ride to the airport was a bit long though. There was a lot of traffic on a weekday, with construction. So we got to the airport around 10ish I'd say. However, the lines were really long at SEA-TAC. They had a couple of cruise ships for that day, so people leaving and coming in made for a very busy airport (the one woman even told us, because the line was about 45-60 minutes to check in for the flight).

Soo... while you SHOULD be OK with a noon flight, I know for me personally, I would prefer a later flight. We usually do around 1:30-2:00 whenever we're coming home.

  14. Don't know... would never take that chance!

On a side note, when we were checking out of our hotel in Seattle the clerk told us the story of a large family going on an Alaskan cruise the week before. There were several family members, multiple generations, with the oldest being a couple in their 80's. The man didn't even know he needed his passport, last time he went to Canada he didn't need it. There was nothing that could be done and he was left behind!!

So again, there's no reason to take the chance of not having the proper documents.

  15. Can't speak to wheelchair accessibility, but we used Already There towncar service and they were excellent. Very friendly and informative driver for our arrival, gave us tips and ideas for our stay in Seattle. The drive from the port back to Sea-Tac was nice, just quiet, which was fine, we were exhausted! LOL!

I would recommend them, just need to call them about accessibility.

  16. Good idea cruisinkelsey. I wonder if ESPN is available in room. Time for more research.

Hmm... I can't remember seeing it in the rooms, but I know I saw it in the sports bar (this summer on the Legend). I was trying to get some news from the All Star game, but it was pointless. ESPN seems to like to rehash the same stuff over and over again. So I gave up! But I think with a series of this magnitude, and the potential of it being the Cubs, will make a difference on the coverage.

  17. We've rented cabanas several times and were just there again a few weeks ago. The shore excursion desk will deliver your cabana ticket to you prior to your arrival at Grand Turk. You then take the ticket to the host at Margaritaville. They will take your sail and sign card in exchange for the cabana key. This last time the cabana was reserved in my brother-in law's name but my husband checked in with no problem. As long as your wife has the cabana ticket there shouldn't be an issue. She would just need to leave her S&S card to get the key.

    Thank you!

And I should have said that better, it's the wife of the other couple. I'm the wife in our couple! LOL! So her husband, my husband, each of our sons, and myself will be snorkeling. Since I've never been, I thought we'd try it in GT since we were just there last year. We did the beach and such, so figured we'd do it at this port.

  18. I asked this in another post, to which nobody replied. But it also had other questions with it. I'm making this it's own post to try and get the info I need.

I reserved a cabana at Marg. for the day. However, we're most likely doing an excursion. There are 4 adults and 2 kids. The wife can't do the excursion because of a new health diagnosis, so she wants to go to the cabana while we go snorkeling. We're only going to be gone for like 3 hours. My question for those who have been, did you need to show your S&S card? An ID? How did you check in for your cabana? I want to know if she can go to the cabana and basically say she's me to check in. We'll meet her there later, when we're done.

    Thanks in advance!!

  19. People have no qualms about pulling them out of school.

LOL! Yep! That's what we do! We had some rough years in our lives and now we're able to do these things again. So we can't wait to do everything in the summer. We do some things in the summer, yes, but with our son getting older and busier, we do what we can, when we can. So, we do a nice trip in November too. Although he'll be in high school soon, then that will be done. Not paying money for private school to take him out on vacation. Needless to say, he's not happy about that part! LOL!! :D
