  1. I think a lot of might be down to cruise lines' insurance these days. Maybe if an iron(or kettle ore even a cigarette) was found to be the cause of a fire then the claim could be invalid. Now, that is an aside to some of us not wanting to be on a cruse ship that has a fire, whatever the cause.

However I can't understand why irons and kettles are singled out when curling tongs, straighteners and other items are allowed. Perhaps someone who understands such things could explain? I know a kettle and an iron might be left on by mistake but so can heated tongs. Is the risk less? Sorry, just something that interests me. I don't take irons or kettles and never would as there must be a reason to them being banned.

  2. We knew nothing about the window suites. We have only done 1 cruise on the Crown Princess which doesn't have them, so when we were booking our upcoming cruise on the Caribbean Princess we were wanting to book a mini suite which we had had before and liked, as normal suites are out of our price range. But we looked at suites out of interest, as you do. When we clicked the link to go and look which suites were available my husband noticed that there were these suites at exactly the same price as a mini suite. The normal suites were almost £800($1200+ ish) more for the 9 nights. Wow, a chance to have the suite experience for much less money, though no balcony, which I will miss I admit. It is the smallest of the WS but we are so looking forward to all the extras. I guess we will then only cruise in suites;)

  3. Bert Stratton....a long time Princess entertainer who sings and plays piano, usually in Crooners. I certainly don't mean to disparage those who like Bert. He's either a you love him or you hate him kind of entertainer, and there are certainly lots of folks who love him. I'm just part of the other camp and will gladly let those who go the other way have my seat at Crooners. He's just not my style.

To the OP, glad you're having a good time and take good care of the CB for me! :)

Thank you. He doesn't sound like our cup of tea.We are more into musicians rather than vocalists really.

Seems my husband and I are the only ones not fond of Captain Yeomans:o. Each to their own hey?

  4. Thank you for bumping up this thread as I hadn't noticed it before.

Back to the original question, even when I have just disembarked from a great cruise ship and a wonderful cruise, to step onboard the QM2 is like a feeling of coming home. I relax instantly. I love the wide corridors in the centre. My husband loves the sound and vibration of the engines(I think) along the Deck 2 wide corridor.

I love that there are many places where it is possible to sit, relax and just look at the sea. Many ships have sacrificed that luxury with the relentless appetite for balconies and extra passengers.

This is also someting I love. So many different places to sit, relax, people watch etc. We were onboard the Crown Princess for a TA last year and it felt overrun with passengers and it was alays a problem finding somewhereto sit. Maybe would be fine on hot sunny days when many people are outside sunbathing, but for a TA it just felt so busy busy. Almost always had to share a table in the buffet for B/F and lunch on that ship which you don't have to do on the QM2, (even if the layout isn't good).

QM2 is my favourite ship so far though we have only sailed on 5:rolleyes:

  5. Hi bilco

They are going to broadcast the show throughout the ship on disembarkation day to speed up getting us of the ship

    Yours Shogun

  6. Thank you for your brief but encouraging review. We are on CB in October for the first time so great to hear. Bad news about the CD. We have always eperienced gread CD's on each of our cruises with differnt lines. I can't understand why Princess keep him on with so many bad reports of. They can be important for some cruisers for the cruise enjoyment.

  7. You dont fill any forms in if you are in the UK just send an e-mail to address given previously with details of your Carnival shares and they will automatically add them to your OBC account. This has always been the way for P&O cruises and its a new way for UK cruisers to do there shareholder benefit with Princess. I did it recently for my cruise in September on Emerald Princess and I received an e-mail within 48 hrs confirming it and it was on my cruise personaliser.

Thank you. I think my husband was getting a bit annoyed with thinking he needed a statement and also a fax so got in touch with the broker. At least we have the credit whichever way. Should pay for some coffees anyway:)

  8. We bought last week and my husband phoned the stockbroker we bought through with our cruise details and they contacted Princess on our behalf. This morning he phoned back to say it was accepted and yes, it is on our cruise personaliser. Simple. Saved filling in a form and finding a fax machine. We were going to send a copy of the buying deal as we didn't have the other items that Princess asks you to send on the form. This was easier.

  9. We did our first cruise with Princess last October which was a B2B booked as one cruise. Changeover day was fabulous, but we were in the UK, so no having to get off the ship and we enjoyed the almost empty ship. I was hoping this was a Princess thing and on our next cruise, B2B from Fort Lauderdale I just presumed it would be the same. I am pleased our country makes things more pleasant;)

Thanks for asking the question. We know now. But we have 2 days in Fort Lauderdale before the cruise so didn't want to have to go off on changeover day to go visiting.

  10. We watched the second programme tonight and cannot understand how Princess / Carnival Group ever let this programme proceed. This is definitely not the Princess Line we know and love and someone somewhere should be losing their job for letting it go ahead. The only alternative is that they have managed to dumb down the standard of the Royal Princess (on which we have not yet sailed!) To that of a very very cheap holiday camp for geriatrics. Which I am sure it is not.

"Cheap holiday camp for geriatrics" Sums up how the programme portrays it very well.

  11. Thank you all. Apologies for being so dim, I feel a bit silly now but I still think it is not a clear way of Carnival to explain things. Maybe a few other Brits will mistakenly see the information as I did so this will help them too if they see this thread.

Glad it will be $100 and not the onboard conversion of £50. That would probably be not much more than $75 at their poor exchange rate, which was what I was thinking it would be. A few free coffee's for us.

  12. "*The onboard credit for Carnival Cruise Lines, Costa Cruises, Cunard and Princess Cruises is determined based on the operational currency onboard the vessel." - copied from Carnival shareholder benefit pdf http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=140690&p=irol-sharebenefit

Thanks Salicia. That is what I saw but I seem to be confusing everyone, let alone myself:o. I think I have got it now. The $100 or £50(for the length of my cruise) isn't down to where we live but down to which currency is used onboard the ship. Are there cruise lines that use £'s as their onboard currency?
