  1. Just got back from our trip on the POA and I loved Kona-we got up late that morning as we had planned to take a ship excursion which did not leave until 1. Got off the boat around 10 and walked the town, went to the Farmers Market which is just up the road-checked out alot of shops and we got a wonderful shaved ice right across from the boat, it was my favorite of all that we had on our trip! The excursion we took was so much fun, Captain Zodiac Raft, Snorkel & Dolphin Adventure , it left right from the pier -lasted 3.5 hours and took us on a fast and furious ride-we got to jump into water a mile deep to swim and than snorkeled in a really nice spot for over an hour. We were blessed to see a school of dolphins who were happy to plan in the wake of our raft on the way back to the ship. There had to be over 40 in total that followed us. This was possibly the excursion I had the most fun on in all the islands, we are both in our 60's and both DH and I loved it!!! Kona really is a great port to just relax and walk around but if you want to add a bit of adventure and snorkeling to your day-than I do recommend that tour. I think you would be able to book it yourself right at the pier for a cheaper price than we paid as they are located just to the left the ship but honestly am not sure of that. Enjoy your cruise-the island are gorgeous!!! Woops just went back and reread your post where it says you are NOT interested in snorkeling-so had to edit this post but left the information for others you might be

  2. Yes, I would love to see the ones from winter. I am taking a group out next January and am trying to schedule meeting times that do not conflict with "dancing" opportunities. We are a dancing group and don't want to miss any opportunities! Thanks

Also, the first day activities from the May 29th dailies were unreadable. The others were fine however.

    Thanks everyone,

I do not have any dailies I can share with you from the winter however this thread is about three years old and there are some more updated dailies -from May 2013 which probably have more accurate information -check out

  4. We used Valley Isle Tours - and they were great. I'll include some details as I proceed (just need to get more pics uploaded today so I can proceed).

Duke's was crowded, but we arrived before dinner service actually started because our stomachs were still on East Coast time so they just put us on the list and buzzed us when they started seating. In the meantime, we enjoyed our Mai Tais and listened to the live music on their back deck.

Thanks so much for that prompt reply-we are also booked with Valley Isle Tours-Your pictures are GORGEOUS and I am now really looking forward to that excursion. We will also be on East Coast time upon arrival but it is good to know that their will be music and drinks to tide us over :D

Your pictures are so wonderfully clear-did you find your camera easy to use? WE are looking for a new one for our trip-I presently have a point and shoot deal and DH's is more sophisticated-he wants something that is good in low light situations.

    Thanks again!!!

  5. I realize that this review is three years old but the information in it is SO great that I just had to bump it up. Donna-I know you are on a cruise right now -I am sure you are loving it-just want to thank you for ALL the information that you shared here-you really have helped me a great deal in planning my trip. I smiled when I saw that your DS went to college in San Marcos-so did my DD-she worked at the Factory stores there and still lives in the area now. Thanks to everyone who has added information to this wonderful review-off to continue my planning :D
