  1. So sorry I have not responded to your post. Hope it is not to late. We have been out of town and I did not have the info with me. We used Dover Taxis. Email is Dovertaxis@aol.com. You will probably contact Karen Moon. Tell her what you want to do. Do you want to go to Canterbury? Do you want to take the coastal tour to Deal, Sandwich, see the White Cliffs, and Dover Castle? She will put together a trip that includes the things you want. We were staying in Canterbury and wanted a local tour before we went to the Dover cruise terminal. We did a 4 hour coastal tour to Deal, Sandwich, White Cliffs, saw Dover Castle but did not go inside and had lunch at a local restaurant. She can put together a tour that fits your needs. There were 10 of us so we did 2 vehicles and 2 guides. The guide I had was Malcolm. He was fabulous! The other guide was Bill. I am sure he was good too, but I can not vouch for that!

Hope you have a great trip!

How much was your 4 hour tour?

  2. Are their multiple offices of this agency. I got aN email that they had been hacked but when I called my agent, N, she said that message had come from the corporate office not her. I did not know which credit card I have used on my last cruise in 2014 and she said she had no record of that, and no credit card on file. Would she be there only TA or are there multiple TA's for C.P.

  3. If the maître d' asked someone to change then it can't have been because they were wearing jeans. Jeans are perfectly acceptable as smart casual unless they are ripped or torn. I have worn jeans every single night I have dined in Blu including formal nights and I have seen others do it to. Admittedly my jeans are always dark and couldn't be misconstrued as "work" jeans but Celebrity's definition of smart casual includes jeans and this applies in Blu every night.

    Absolutely correct!

  4. Hi. Checking around for information on the golf related activities on the July 15 Silhouette cruise. The cruise excursions for golf seem fairly pricey, not sure about the different British Open offers and what you get from a value standpoint that makes one more attractive than the other. Can you buy tix online for the Open and take a cab there and back or is it too far so that the ship 299 dollar excursion is better to do? Also could use advice re golfing in Belfast and Dover on the trip and whether anyone is interested in those venues to get a threesome or foursome together.......

  5. We also had Fernando (out of Salerno) for our Amalfi Coast and wine tasting tour. He was charming and informative, and we had a great time. The winery tasting, with lunch, at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius was delicious, and a beautiful setting.

Thank you to Fernando for a wonderful day! I would highly recommend him and RIL.

  6. My cheat is that I didn't use the public train but the ships train. So I didn't really do a complete DIY like Virtual Rain. Once the train gets to St Pietro station then you are on your own for the day. And then you regroup when time to go back.

I noticed the ship's excursions list a train ride into Rome, and also a motorcoach. Then you can diy. Does one have an advantage over the other (they are the same price and duration).

  7. In three weeks we are taking our children and seven grandchildren to Alaska on the Infinity. The kids are five to fifteen. I have suggested that for the four boys, a blazer and tie should be okay for formal nights. Ditto for the four grown up men. The girls and ladies will be wearing a little sparkle. Please, tell me if this will be okay for dining in the MDR.

This is our first Celebrity cruise and we are eager not to change any of the line's culture.

    This will be just fine.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  8. Do whatever you want. Wear the appropriate clothes and you will have no problem.

Where whatever you want, and you may have a problem, and then you must accept eating in the buffet.

I will not judge you, and you will not affect my happiness.

I hope you have received enought information on this thread to make an educated decision.

    Have a wonderful cruise!

  9. Hi Everyone,

My husband and I will be cruising the Mediterranean on the Equinox on July 2nd. We are trying to pack as minimalistic as possible since its a 2 week vacation.

Can my husband wear a dress shirt, tie and dress pants to the Main Dining Room on formal night? Will he be turned away for not wearing a jacket??

    thanks!

    Samantha

He may or may not be turned away. If he is okay with a jacket that they might give him to wear, then problem solved. Apparently men will take the jacket and hang it on the back of their chair.

Otherwise have him take one, or schedule dinner in a specialty restaurant, where the dress code is always "smart casual".

  10. Sorry, I know this is off topic.

But can I ask how much you paid for your tickets? Do you have to dress formally in the end?

    Tickets were $100 each.

We did not have to dress formally. It turned out that we did not have time to go back to the ship, so we were wearing our clothes from the day of touring. I would have liked to be better dressed, and most people were, but certainly not formal.

    It worked out just fine.

  11. We just came back from the Baltics, and toured with TJ Travel, and everything was perfect.

Our guide was wonderful, and the two days went perfectly.

We also did the ballet, but Olga booked it for us, and we were in the second row. She provided transportation also. It is entirely possible that she is unfamiliar with the US website.

There are some language issues that may be coming into play also. At first it seemed to me that she was telling me we had to dress formally for the ballet, but after a bit of back and forth it was cleared up. I think that may also be the case with your question about the guide. With all my research, I didn't come across anyone that was unhappy with their guide, so I hope you can rest easy about that.

    I hope this helps.

  12. Yes, it caught us out too, but was a very welcome surprise and helped kick start the day. It would be interesting to know if they are doing it again this year. Any recent Baltic 2011 cruisers out there can tell us?

    Simon

Just got back, the Hoho boats were there when we got there (in the pouring rain!!) and took us right to the Vasa. It was before the regular route started.

We bought the tickets right next to the dock.

  13.

I don't want to debate anything...I'd just like to hear why some men are objecting to wearing suits?

I think it is a reasonable question (being female I won't offer an opinion), but I'm fairly sure you will get another thread that turns into a debate!! There's always hope though!!

  14. Our tourguide, Francesco took us to Osteriadeu Pontefici which is near the Vatican. It is fabulous! The address is Via Gregorio V11 53, Rome. The web address is www.osteriadeipointefici.com .

It is a family owned restaurant and they treat you like one of their own.

Hope you get a chance to visit them

    Happy Cruising!

    Faith

We ate there also, and the pizza was the best we had in Italy-light and thin, with the most delicious flavor. The menu is quite large.

  15. Cheryl,

Thanks, for the name of the restaurant and the pictures.

I've written it down in my travel log.

    Mari

You might want to mention to Jany that you saw this online and give her the name of the restaurant. At least the day we ate there, it was not open to the public, and the 4 beautiful outdoor tables all had RIL groups, which had been prearranged.

Cheryl, it's funny, I took the same picture with the menu and the food!!

  16. Here are a few pix from the tours:

Vinny (in the suit, 100 degress outside) taking us into the Coliseum:

Our amazing lunch spot in Sorrento:

Rafaele (in the suit, also very hot outside) and my dad:

This picture makes me miss Sorrento so much! We ate here also, and the view, combined with the delicious lunch, was incredible. Our RIL driver was Carmine in Naples, and he was also outstanding.

  17. Another question???

Also, who has done the Amalfi coast tour without Pompeii??? What did you see and was it worth it?? It is a full 9 hour day.

    Thanks

    Cheryl

Just did three tours with RIL and loved every one. The personal service and attention made every day outstanding.

We did do Pompeii, but if I was to skip it, I would have definitely continued along the Amalfi Coast to Ravello, which is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous.

  18. I can tell you about our experience with Romeinlimo on our cruise. Here is a little background about us. We (husband, wife 50,s and son 19) returned on 5/25/09 from the NCL Gem - round trip from Barcelona. Our ports of call were Malta, Naples, Rome, Florence/Pisa and Cannes. We have over 30+ cruises under our belt and have always taken cruise ship excursions. This was our first trip to the Med, via cruise, and we wanted to make sure we made the most out of our days in port and sightseeing - in one day.

We ended up paying 100Euro per person/per port. The advantages: MUCH CHEAPER than the cruise ship, you are with a small intimate group (not a large bus crammed with people), personalized and tailored (if you want - see their website) and saw more things. We saved $$$ using them versus NCL excursions. I brought home NCLs excursion pamphlet with sights/prices and there was NO comparison and a no brainer - Romeinlimo is the ONLY way to go. I just cannot say enough about them. Their responses to our emails were prompt. They are professional, smart, funny, a wealth of information (especially places to eat), great great people.

Also one concern people had when wondering to take private excursions vs cruise ones that I read, and had to admit, I had the same concern. Will you miss your ship? NO.. these drivers know their business. We never got back to the ship later than 5:30 pm (cruise ship left at 7pm - all on board at 6:30pm). They also knew the roads', traffic ins and outs and the shortcuts when needed. This should be no concern for anyone

If you have any questions about them, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Wow, you got a great price at 300 Euro per port (100euro x 3). That is quite a bit less than usual.
