  1. I've booked a private charter that leaves from the dock at Tucker's Point Hotel. Would you recommend taking the ferry from the dockyard to Hamilton and taking a taxi the rest of the way (we do need to make a quick grocery stop) or taking the ferry to St.George and taxing to the dock from there? My father-in-law can get slightly sea sick, so if the ferry to St. George isn't MUCH more efficient, we'll likely not torture him on the ferry since he'll be tortured enough on the sailboat all day.

Additionally, my grocery run will find me looking for a cake to celebrate my BIL and SIL's 10th anniversary (we'll be watching them renew their vows on the beach during our sailing that day), and possibly a fresh floral bouquet and boutonniere. I was thinking to stop at the Harrington Hundreds on South Rd...would they have these items available (the charter captain said they'd have cakes, so I'm mostly asking about flowers, I suppose)?

  2. Has anyone done this one? We are a family of 3, I'm the adult, then I have 2 girls - almost 13 and 10. How do they split people up on this trip? There are usually 2 to a kayak and I don't want to leave one of my girls to kayak with a stranger, but I also don't want to put them in a kayak together alone. That could get ugly quickly....

  3. I have some "dress shorts" that I call my tuxedo shorts...I usually wear them with tights and boots when it isn't summer.

I just realized I didn't pay attention to whether a male or female posted this question...lol. I think khaki "dress" shorts for men are a totally different story... ;)

  4. Yeah, make sure you really need more than one... You could always just drop their stuff in your cabin if they're in separate cabins and unable to get FTTF. They may board a little after you, but if they're old enough to have their own cabin, I would think it shouldn't be a problem. I'm 47 days out from my sailing and was able to get FTTF just yesterday. Patience is a virtue! :)

  5. Bummer books can work on a "fun ship"! So long as you read them in the sunshine! ;) I have a friend that lived in Korea for a while...she actually met her husband there! He was in the military and she is a diplomat's daughter. It would be a romantic story, except their first date was at Burger King....(how do I know this, you ask...? She complains every year when he takes her to BK for their anniversary!!) She can read some Korean, but can't really speak it. I took Latin as my language. It's safe to say I won't be conjugating any Latin words or translating The Iliad on my cruise! :)

  6. I get odd looks sometimes when I go to a restaurant and ask for no dressing on my salad, but ask instead for some lemon wedges and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Some places only have canola or vegetable oil - which is ok, I guess, but not nearly as tasty. Has anyone asked for and gotten EVOO on a carnival ship, or should I carry my own?

  7. I'm a tech nerd... I love my smart phone, my laptop, and my iPad! I'm also an old-fashioned book nerd.

I do, however, like that someone pointed out the kindle is beneficial when it comes to low light reading!! Having a book light clipped to my deck chair at night might just be the ultimate, unforgivable sign of nerddom. My daughter has a kindle, she uses it mostly for games (subway surfers, anyone?), and I actually have the kindle app on my phone as I had a textbook that was only available that way last semester - I found I was easily distracted by everything else there was to do on my electronic device and ha a hard time focusing on reading...

  8. I love mysteries, so I will be checking out the library and Felix! I'm torn on a kindle. :-/ I would love to have a million books at my fingertips...but I'm kind of an old fashioned book lover...I love the smell of them (weird, I know), and the way they feel in my hands. Also, it hurts a lot less when you fall asleep while reading and smack yourself in the face with a book than when you fall asleep while reading electronics and smack yourself in the face with those. :D I might grab some off my bookshelf and just throw them in my bag. I've read most of them 3-4 times already, but always find something new in most of them.

  9. I'm planning a cruise with just myself and my two pre-teens. I figure I'll have lots of time to read since they only hangout with me when necessary. I've got a couple of Kurt Vonnegut books I've not made it to that I plan on reading (wondering if maybe those are too deep to try to read on the Lido deck though...). Maybe some Stephanie Plum novels (nice, easy, brainless, reads!)... What will I find YOU reading?

  10. Yay for no "wine machines!" I'm glad you mentioned the benefit of trying new wines with the Cheers program. I wasn't sure I would benefit from the program, but looking at it that way makes sense! I won't feel so bad abandoning a glass of $8-10 wine I don't like if I didn't really "pay" for it!

  11. I'm not quite a wine snob, but I know what I like and don't like (Frei Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon is my hands-down favorite, for the rest of you wineos out there....). I'm sure I will order a bottle or two in the MDR, but I'm wondering about the wines available by the glass. Do they actually get poured from a bottle, or are they delivered by some fountain-type thing? I've been reading on these boards and read something about that contraption.... and I'll be honest, it kind of made me shudder. Of course I'll be taking a bottle with me...I'm trying to decide between a bottle of Moët & Chandon or a nice red... Decisions, decisions! Thanks in advance for any info. :) Oh! Here's a fun pic of me enjoying one of those nice reds...I should have my kids pull me around more often!. ImageUploadedByForums1389478086.337335.jpg.ccb2f97b88d59091d4667281aafec714.jpg

  12. Such a great idea!! I have 2 girls (10 and almost 13) I'll be sailing with march 13 on the Carnival Fascination. I'm looking forward to spending time with them...and also looking forward to their inevitable desire to spend more time away from me than with me... Is that awful? I just need some time to decompress!!
