  1. Has anyone seen any recent commercials for Carnival? I haven't seen any lately.

the last three commercials i saw were telling me a carnival vacation was better than being in a cesspool filled pool, stuck on an upside roller coaster, or being attacked by bears.

that of course as long as you were on a ccl ship still under its own power.

i wasn't too surprised when i heard they were getting rid of mcmahon and tate.

  2. We were on our largest cruise ship last week - Carnival Conquest - and DH really did not care for the size. He said that he liked the sizes of the Carnival Inspiration and the NCL Sun much better. To him the Conquest felt crowded; more cabins but the public space felt the same to him as the smaller ships. I agree that there were times when the Lido, both outside and buffet area inside, had tons of people around, but I didn't think it was too bad.

After hearing him complain, I was SO glad that we were not on the Carnival Dream, our initial booking for Summer 2012. I fear that we may never cruise again, since the vessels keep getting larger and larger. I really was hoping to try Sunshine or another cruise line with a lot of activities for everyone, but I just don't see that happening, now.

Anyone have recommendations on ships that feel less crowded? And, yes, we must travel during peak times, due to school-aged children.

    any spirit class ship.

we avoided the big ships of rccl for years because we mistakenly thought big was synonomous with crowds.

    boy, were we wrong!

we found they carry a lot less passengers than ratioed to carnival, and now love the big ships of rccl.

and you are wise to avoid the sunshine. it's a joke even in concept!

  3. most of them make sense for the ship i was on.

but the destiny really lacked everrything. it was the most sterile decored ship ii have ever sailed.

biggest disapointment was the miracle, with all the fanfare, watching the ship built from afar through another website. it was just a jostled bunch that just didn't flow, from that ugly pepto bismol/ silver dining room, to a metropolis that has no presense of superman, and the frankenstein neck bolt lighting throughout the ship.

  4. I`m just curious to see how many people actully enjoy having to dress up for dinner on elegant night while on a cruise.

I did dress up on my first cruise last summer for both nights. I

will do it again this time around also.

But...if i had the choice i would much rather not have to,i wear enough suits while i`m not on vacation.

While on vacation i would prefer to just be able to dress casual, so i could do without it.

What about u? Enjoy it, or could u do without elegant night?

I understand that u can just eat at the buffet if u wanted to, but let`s say that`s not an option.:)

it used to not be an option.

do without? not sure. when there's a function in town, and i'm on vacation, sure, i could skip it. but why.

same with weddings. but i wouldn't answer no just because i have to dress elegant.

but more importantly, i'm beginning to wonder if some have just outgrown their good clothes. i have no problem putting on pants, a shirt, and a jacket. in fact, i wear a jacket all winter long when it's cold and never think twice that it's an inconvenience.

but, looking nice, and looking at other look nice, is always a plus.

  5. This is neither the Costa nor the Concordia. Did you miss the part about the incompetent captain?

nothing to support any of your statements. you're quite funny.

there are arms of this convo regarding the concordia. try to keep up.

next will be a stupid joke, probably. and then an analyzation of my time stamp.

  6. and how has the muster drill changed (the basic context) since your first cruise?????

Can you honestly tell me you are as rapt with attention now as you were the first time??

I totally zone out during the airplane saftey talk....At this point, during the muster, I zone out too.

    Lifejacket/get to station/await instruction.

(pray that everyone keeps a cool head.....that's first on my priority list)

smaller ships, we mustered in a lounge, and then were walked out to the lifeboat. and the lifeboats were way up top on the verandah deck.

and i treated my last muster with as much fire as my first.

  7. I guess you won't be one of the survivors.

Carnival lists your muster station on your sail and sign card and the crew members are experts at directing people to the muster stations.

Unless I am already in my cabin, I have no intention of returning to get a life jacket and getting mobbed by hysterical alarmists. There are plenty of life jackets stashed around the ship.

They even tell you NOT to return to your cabin for such things as medications - one of the crew will get, if there is time.

really? the concordia passengers were all told to return to their cabins.

  8. Tell me what a good muster would have done to help the people who were told to go back to their cabins?....many of those people died.

The Concordia and a proper muster drill have little to do with each other. That entire thing was a fiasco that no muster drill, no matter how long or detailed, would have fixed.

as the sarge had already pointed out, most already had gone through the drill. only those that embarked that night had not.

  9. And you believe that while they were having difficulties, that everyone stayed there and patiently waited to see if they'd eventually work it out???

they were already on the boats when they were launching. didn't you see the videos with all the screaming? getting stuck, getting unstuck, hitting the water, and then steering straight into the ship?

  10. Ok Lucy - it proves that whether or not there was a safety drill is irrelevant when the captain is incompetent. And probably for that matter, competent. If the captain doesn't give the order to abandon ship until many life boats are out of commission, what choice does the crew and passengers have?

A number of the dead were found to be WEARING life jackets. Putting a life jacket on wasn't the problem.

um, you have completely avoided me challenging your statement that most had already muster drilled. and now you throw in lifejackets? where did that come from?
