  1. Does anyone remember the Festivale...My first cruise was back in 1984 on her....I remember it was $599 per person WITH airfare from Chicago and it was 7 days...had a blast and got hooked on cruising Carnival ....I even remember the cruise director at the time...Dave Armour.

best cruise director we ever had.

even the brand ambassador took a lot of his material.

  2. Well, she's still around! She was Carnival Cruise Lines very first new-build cruise ship.

Now sailing as the PEACEBOAT Ocean Dream she passed through the Panama Canal yesterday en route to her brand new home in Yokohama, Japan where she will conduct yearly World Cruises. She is formally:

    1981-2000: Carnival Cruise Line 'Tropicale'

    2000-2005: 'Costa Tropicale'

    2005-2008: P&O Australia 'Pacific Star'

    2008-2012: Pullmantur 'Ocean Dream'

    2012- On a six-year lease as PEACEBOAT

More of her history can be found HERE

remember first seeing that ship on an episode of the a-team.

amazing how small she looks now. i think she was in the 30,000 gwt range.

  3. as a native new york, i agree that the island route from the port of new york can be boring, crappy, repetitive . The biggest problem is due to distance and the speed of the ships..If ships can travel maybe like at 40-50 knots, then it can take maybe 1 day to cover the one thousand or so miles need to reach the Bahama or Caribbean islands

if only carnival had the clout to secure bermuda sailings. even with 2 docks since '08, all they could do is sail there off season. and then abandon it once again, or get blocked out.

  4. I never thought I would hear my daughter (who will be 18 years 1 month old at time of cruising) tell me she doesn't want to go on the cruise with her (her 17th!!).. It's not because she doesn't like cruising..she loves cruising. The problem is that we have in the past always cruised with her cousins or friends and this time its not to be :(

I don't want her gambling all the time (because that would be my money she'd be using!!) and she thinks that after a certain hour, she isn't even allowed in the disco. According to John Heald, even through she is a HS Senior, because she will already be 18 she can't even join in the Circle C group....(or whatever the 15-17 age group is called)

So, what can/does an 18 year old do on a cruise? I can leave her home but we paid ES and I know I would lose money (don't know how much but would still lose something, cruise is Carnival Glory 03/18)

    Thanks for your replies...

at 18, all i ever wanted to do was get away from my parents.

they never could understand why i would stay home while they went to hawaii.

    duh.

  5. I just recently read the start of a review and the couple was shown with a mascot of sorts... stuffed animal in the pictures.

and... saw another review with an Angry Bird all over the ship.

then I saw one with a pirate stuffed doll of some sort.

Can I just say..... I don't get it! :) Some of it is cute, while most is a bit ridiculous.

It reminds me of "Flat Stanley" that I made my kids take to the ball park one year.

Can't we just leave the toys at home? :p

    Catrin

    go ahead.

not sure how what other bring with them bothers you, though.

what do you bring that others might consider strange? or is it strange to even think we would even care?

  6. Sure you can!

It's funny that we sometimes think we're able to mind-read.

It's best to leave the whole "worry-what-people-may-or-may-not-be-thinking" about us alone and just enjoy the cruise.

Please, please -value yourself more than the perceived judgments of others.

The judgments that really matter are those who think the best of you, take you as who you really are... :).

    Al

i'll try to remember this the next time i go to the drive up window at white castle. love their onion rings, but still will only order one sack. and could eat two. not enough trouble, like an hov lane to have a passenger dummy to get me past this.

  7. Honestly:confused:? There's no one that you need to have to worry about what they think !

Just go with, "Hey, I'll never see them again."

..... Sooooo...even if some would criticise...

The moment of censorial judgment by others will be lost after the moment...and they'll move on to someone else more interesting.

    Otherwise known euphemisticallyas, "People Watching.":p

    Al out!

    i know it's me. i just can't do it. :)

  8. I've never been offered a second lobster tail!! Waiter rolled his eyes at us for ordering the surf & turf combo!:( I could care less what he/they think (I know 99.9% of my life I am NOT a glutton, lol) but I was surprised he did this to us when it seems so many others order much more...

i would have decreased his tips and let him know why at the end of the week. who is he to judge?

  9. I have only ordered 1 but I do know someone that has ordered 17! He is not that big of a guy either. I would have been embarrassed to be at the table with him though.:o

I do know that if you order more than 1 that it is much easier on the waiters if you order them at the start. They dont care how many you order because If you order them later, they have to go thru long lines to wait for the additional dishes. If you have ever been on the galley tour they will explain this and how complicated and backed up it gets when people continue to re-order.

except that i have read complaints that the late seating runs out.
