  1. Torn between 2cruises, both about the same price. Carnival Sunshine 8 day cruise or RCI Navigator 9 night cruise. We have sailed on Carnival and have points we can use from Master card. Carnival cabin would be a spa cabin. Royal is longer, would be new cruise line for us, cabin would be standard balcony with $175 onc.

Both port in pretty much the same places. Need some outside opinions to help decide.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. On our first cruise I packed too much -a dress for each night (7 dresses), 7 pair of shorts, 14 tops, 3 swimsuits, 5 pair shoes, etc. I had two 25 inch suitcases and a carry one. The one thing I forgot was my glasses. I wear contacts but take glasses as my eyes get tired. Not having the glasses was a major inconvenience.

Since then, I pack mix and match items and take a 21 inch suitcase and a back pack and I wear my glasses on the plane.

  3. Define "close". Hotels near Times Square and in Midtown East are "close" for me, and there are plenty in both locations. I'd have to look, but someone posted a mid-tier hotel near Columbus Circle a few months ago that was a very nice deal. Any of those areas would be near public transportation. And safe.

What do you want to see while you're in town? How many nights? When?

This would be mid October for 3 nights - would like to see 911 memorial as well as Statue of Liberty. I have been to NYC but it was over 30 years ago.

As far as close, anything that wouldn't take more than 30 minutes to get to Central Park.

    Thanks.

  4. We are going to a wedding in Central Park, then some sight seeing in NYC, and then a cruise.

I know hotels are expensive, but was hoping someone could give some advice on a hotel in Manhattan that is more in a moderate range and/or what areas on NYC are safe and are close to mass transit. Would like to pay $300 or less if possible.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  5. We take bubble wrap and duct tape. Tape the cap securely with the duct tape, wrap in bubble wrap and then put a t shirt around it and place in the middle of our checked luggage. TSA has unwrapped the bubble wrap but they wrapped it back up. No problem.

  6. We always had a balcony or extended balcony but on a HAL cruise we were in an inside cabin. The cabin was nice with plenty of space, but I missed the balcony. For our upcoming cruise, we have a balcony - the rate would have to be almost free to get me to try an inside again.

  7. We have also eaten at the hotel -- it took quite a while to get the food, but it was good. The menu is limited but has sandwiches, soups, and salads - also desserts. I am pretty sure if you go to Hyatt Place's website for that location you can pull up a menu.

As for the shuttle - you have to sign up when you check in. They take a van and a "trailer" for the luggage. The shuttle makes stops at all terminals so you can be on it for some time. We found taking a taxi more convenient and I think it was about $15. (The shuttle has a small charge as well)

  8. I would like some hotel recommendations for pre cruise Miami - staying 2 nights -we will probably have a rental car. Really don't want to spend more than $200 a night.

What is the Doral area like?

We don't care if it is by a beach, but would like to be somewhat close to a Total Wine store if possible.

All help is appreciated. Thank you
