  1. Definitely don't stay in Inglewood...

If you must stay near LAX, keep to the hotels along Century Blvd. within those first three blocks or so of the airport...Do not venture East of the 405...

If you want close by alternatives, look South of LAX in El Segundo or North of LAX in Culver City (but not anywhere in Culver City--specifically the Doubletree or Four Points, possibly the Courtyard or Extended Stay America--all in the area near The Westfield Mall and The "Bridge"...but, for those areas, check with the hotels about LAX shuttles--some have had them at times, other times not...

If you stay at LAX, you will be pretty much stuck at your hotel and eating at the hotel..unless you want to brave LA area public transit...or grab some pricey taxi rides. The Santa Monica Big Blue Bus isn't bad...but you'd better be very sure of your routes, schedules and stops... It's the #3 line which will take you from LAX to 4th Street ..where you'd get off around Colorado Blvd or Wilshire Blvd to be closest to the Santa Monica attractions like the Third Street Promenade, the SM Pier and Palisades Park....and, there is another bus that just does a loop from the LAX hotel area down to Manhattan Beach...where you'll also find a lot of shopping and restaurants...

If you stayed in El Segundo or Culver City, nothing exciting, but you'd find things like Restaurants, shopping and movies nearby...Note: right near the Doubletree in Culver City is one of my old favorites and an LA institution...Dinah's...great Fried Chicken and a lot of other "comfort food" in a place that looks like it hasn't been remodeled since the 50s...an absolute classic...

If you take a taxi from LAX, you might consider going to the end of Washington Blvd--where it hits the Pacific...Marina Del Rey is to your left, the Venice Boardwalk to your right...and a great restaurant, C&O Trattoria is right there...

    Have fun...

Wow, thanks Bruin Steve! I will look into Culver City and El Segundo as alternitives! Dinah's sounds great!

  2. Wow, thanks Slomo for the info. I guess one of the airport hotels it is. After traveling all night and not being one to be able to sleep on an airplane, not sure how much we will want to do. I guess we will book the hotel and leave the rest up to arrival time and how we feel. Thanks again for all the info!;)

  3. Thanks for all the info. After reading the many reviews of the airport hotels, I think we might opt for the Wingate by Wyndam in Englewood. They have a shuttle and it seems to have better reviews. Input is appreciated.

After some research, we would like to see the USS Iowa. What would be the best way to get there? Does the shuttle go by that location? Thanks again for all the help!

  4. This will be our first time traveling on an AUS based Princess ship. I have read many reviews and have opened my eyes to the changes that are to be expected between that and the US ships. My biggest concern at this point are the beds. I frankly don't think the US Princess ships have the most comfortable beds. As we will be spending 27 nights, I am curious as to the thoughts on the beds. That and any other important hints or tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

  5. Due to a change in arrival time from our overnight flight from Sydney, we will be arriving in LAX at approximatley 9 am and not leaving until 10 the next morning. I am not sure how much sightseeing we will want to do after flying all night. I am looking for hotels close by LAX that have a shuttle. If we are just looking for a quiet place to rest with a restaurant, what is the recommended airport hotel? Thanks in advance for the help!

  6. We have refundable tickets through EzAir for RT tickets in November LAX-SYD. We have not paid for them yet, as it is not due until the end of August. This week I received a notice that our flights were cancelled and they were putting us on another flight. The problem? The flight out is not an issue. We also have RT flights FLL-LAX with Virgin America, bought and paid for separately with no insurance. Due to the return flight arriving into LAX an hour later, I don't think it will give us enough time to make our flight. We arrive at 8 and have a domestic flight at 10:15. The questions is: Should I call Delta to see if they can do anything about the $150 change fee per person or would I be wasting my time? There are 5 of us so that is a rather hefty amount. Thanks for all the help!

  7. Thanks everyone for the tips. We are flying out of LAX at night, arriving into SYD at 6:20 am. We can't check into the hotel for some time. Hopefully we will all be able to sleep on the flight and then do some sightseeing when we arrive in SYD. The one benefit we have is that our first 2 days on the cruise are sea days, so it helps knowing that!

  8. Hi, we are going on our first B2B cruise, a 14 night followed by a 13 night. How does one normally pack for such an extended period of time? We are sailing out of Sydney, going to New Zealand, Fiji, New Caladonia and Vanuatu. We will be sailing on the Sun Princess. The US based Princess ships have laundry rooms available, so I assume we will have access to that as well. Suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

  9. I just was at the dermatologist yesterday and she gave me a product called Tizo3. It's tinted sunscreen with zinc oxide in it. I believe the Tizo2 is untinted. WOW is all I can say! I live in South Florida and sweat is an issue. I have tried it the past two days and it stays put! I actually like the tint because it evens out my skin. I have Roscea. I ordered it on Amazon.com and was shocked that it wasn't as expensive as I would have thought. You need very little, it's non-greasy and goes on so smooth! It's what she wears and I am so glad she gave me some samples to try! I am hooked! Good luck!

  10. There are really no long distances when you come to Port Vila, you can drive around this whole island in about 2 1/2 hours.

There is so much to do here but you will only have about 8 hours.

If you don't want to do an organised tour you can hire a bus driver to take you to a few spots (Hideaway Island for snorkelling, Cascades Waterfalls, Blue Lagoon, Eton Beach all come to mind) or even to their village to see how the locals live.

Or hire a quad bike and drive yourself to a few places.

Right in town you can find parasailing, jetboating, jetskis, zego, glass bottom boat, kayaking tours, scuba diving shops, sail and snorkel tours, snuba, cafes and restaurants.

A short distance away you have zorbing, zipline, buggies....really the list is too long to post.

Most shops will be selling knockoffs if you are interested in that sort of thing, The best duty free can be found here with really great prices, Fung Kuei is the most popular place but Paris Shopping and Sound Centre also have their own specials that are worth checking out.

How far is the zorbing and ziplining? Is there a company name or tour operator? Thanks!

  11. Buying cruise line air is the same as buying air from a consolidator-you pay your money and take your chances. I have used consolidators for the past 4 Transatlantics without a problem. There are some very knowledgeable people on the cruise air board who do not like consolidators and scare everyone away. But I just can't afford to pay the regular fares. Have a backup plan and trip insurance. Do your homework and know what other flights will get you there if things go sideways, but I wouldn't expect that on a non-stop. Most of all-relax!

Thanks for the reply! There are 2 other non-stops on the same day with either Delta or Virgin Australia, who they code share with, so that puts me somewhat at ease. We have platinum coverage with Princess as well. We also are going to upgrade and pay for the "Economy Comfort" seating on Delta. The situations I have read where they take seats away and split families up, there are not too many seats in Economy Comfort so not that big of a deal there.

Hopefully, all will go as planned! Thanks again for the input!

    :)

  12. What is making me nervous is reading all the issues others have had when buying air through the cruise line. This is the first time we are doing this. There are issues with flights being cancelled and the cruise line not assisting, issues with what exactly is covered if a flight is cancelled, etc. one poster said his flight was cancelled and they flew him to the first port 3 days later. Overall, i guess the cruise line or airline not being there to assist if any problems arise. Others stating that the rules are not always listed and you won't know unless you have a problem. Being that they purchase wholesale flights it is not the same as purchasing the flight directly with the airline. I hope that is a little more clear on my concerns. Thanks for your input!

  13. I have a reservation and flights booked with the refundable EZ air with Delta in November traveling from LAX to Sydney. In reading many posts on the Cruise Air forum, I am getting nervous about keeping this reservation for flights. I figured I should pose the question on the Princess forum, since it is with EZ Air, and see what the reaction is. They are both non-stop flights. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

  14. I have never arrived from an international flight into LAX so can't tell you whether 3 hours or likely to be enough time or not, but since you've already purchased your tickets you're more or less stuck with what you have unless you want to pay a fee to change them. Since you purchased two separate tickets, understand that the airline for the domestic flight is under no obligation to rebook you if your inbound flight happens to arrive late, or you don't get through I/C in time. They may do so, but are under no obligation. In the future if you're unsure about a connection time, it may help to post here BEFORE you buy. :)

Although I did say purchased, they are refundable tickets, so perhaps I did ask my question BEFORE I bought and paid for them. :p

I went on the Global Entry site and can't find a price for how much it costs. Those who have done this process, do you remember the cost?

This brings me to my next question. They are refundable international tickets througb Princess. After reading many of the posts on here, it sounds like this is not the way to go. There are several posts about the tickets not being transferrable to another airline if the need arises. I am not sure if one cruise line is different from any others, but this causes me concern. I reviewed the tickets and don't see where it has that exclusion. Any input on this issue is appreciated!

Thanks again everyone for your help!

  15. We have a direct flight from Sydney into LAX in December following a 27 night cruise on the Sun Princess. We are set to arrive in LAX at 7 am on Delta Airlines. We have a domestic flight with Virgin American at 10:10 am into Ft. Lauderdale. Is 3 hours enough time to claim our luggage, clear customs and catch the next flight? The tickets were purchased as 2 non-stop round trips so they are not connected. Thanks for your help!

  16. We will be arriving in Sydney from LAX at 6:20 am on November 11. I was wondering if anyone knows of a private tour company that would pick us up at the airport, give us a tour of Sydney and then drop us at our hotel, The Westin? Thanks for the help!

  17. We have booked B2B cruises on the Sun in November, but now I am getting nervous about spending that many nights on a ship. The longest we have done is 14 nights and that was fine, but that extra 13 nights somewhat scares me. We have been contemplating cancelling the second cruise and just touring Australia by land. Any thoughts? Thanks!
