  1. My sister and BIL are booked with us on 2 upcoming cruises. The first one is a 6 night Italy/Croatia and we are all staying onboard for the following sailing, which is a 15 night transatlantic. My sister and BIL are 2 points away from Diamond. Obviously they will reach it on the 6 night sailing. Will they be recognized as Diamond for the following sailing?

The protocols are changing very quickly.  I would wait a couple of weeks.

I sincerely doubt they will do away with the testing any time soon.  It costs the cruiselines nothing (in fact, they are selling them and making money) and it ensures nobody with active Covid comes onboard.

As I understand it though, flu doesn’t require leaving a ship in port mid-cruise and quarantining there as can be required with Covid. That’s a huge difference.

I dont believe people are made to leave the ship. I have seen numerous posts from people who said they were quarantined

My husband says the same thing but he still wants to go on a cruise.  I hope neither of us gets sick!

Guess what.  If you contract influenza on a cruise, you also have to quarantine.  Happened to my husband on day 8 of our 12 day sailing in February 2020.  80 other pax were also quarantined.  There were probably many more, but they didn't report to the Medical Center to be tested for fear of being quarantined.

I would have no problem wearing a mask when I'm around others in large group settings.  I've worked the entire pandemic and haven't gotten Covid (as a nurse).  I toss that up to following appropriate protocols.

I know it is a personal choice and everybody has a comfort and risk level.  But a related question for those still choosing to wear a mask on cruise ships.  Not judging but just very interested.  What will change your mind if anything?  What sign are you looking for?  And when?  If COVID becomes truly an endemic or circulating virus (like influenza, other cold viruses, etc) never to be gone completely, for perhaps decades or forever, will you always wear masks on your cruises?  Even if COVID vaccines and boosters protect you from serious illness?  My questions assume that COVID is here to stay but becomes entirely manageable.

Im not sure when we'll feel comfortable not wearing a mask. As i said in a previous post, my husband contracted Influenza A on our last cruise march 2020. Apparently so did 80 other pax (that we know of, who kniws how many others didnt report to Medical Center because if being quarantined). My husband has pulmonary and cardiac Sarcoidosis, so if we oot to continue to cruise, we will be extra careful.

  6. We will in areas where there are others nearby.  On our last cruise (February 2020), my husband contracted Influenza A, even though we were vaccinated.  I'm a nurse and I've worked through this entire pandemic, and I haven't caught Covid.  We are vaccinated and boostered, and we are religious about wearing a mask and handwashing.  My husband and I have both been wearing masks for the past 2 years and we haven't gotten so much as a cold.  I just hope those who choose not to wear a mask don't harass those of us who do.  I've seen that happen, and I've had patients tell me I should choose a different line of work if I'm so scared of a "fake virus."  My tongue bleeds trying to bite it and answer back to such a stupid comment.

Working a graveyard union job, we got paid an hour overtime during Fall Back when our 8-hr or 10-hr shift became 9 or 11 hours that one night of the year. During Spring Forward, we got 8/10 hrs pay for working 7/9 hr shifts that night. Win-win! 😉

We weren't unionized, but our bosses rationale was that we got paid for the entire shift in the Spring when we worked one less hour,  so it all worked out (according to them).  That worked if you were on that night in the Spring.

We be on the Edge when Daylight Savings Time hits. Shouldn't we a get a credit since the cruise will be cut an hour short?

As a nurse I always felt when the clocks turn back we should get paid for the extra hour on night shift. Never happened.

I don’t believe this to be true. Cruise lines are easing protocols in order to attract more consumers. It is estimated that only 20% of adults will choose to vaccinate their children who are under 5. It’s business.

Well they currently require 5 and anove to be vaccinated, so im sure when the age is lowered  they will require them as well.

I read that along  with their new policy, they are allowing passengers who have recovered from Covid in the previous 90 days and are asymptomtic to forego precruise testing. They must provide documentation from a medical professsional that they have recovered fully.  This also applies to those that are unvaccinated. If they are doing that, they should allow those who are vaccinated and boostered to forego testing as well.

Oops. I think that applies to Carnival, not NCL. Sorry for my error.

If anything, because there will be unvaccinated kids, it'sll probably be stricter.

I wonder if they will allow people to cancel.  I signed up for a "no kids, no mask, completely vaccinated/tested cruise".  Not happy!

The person will receive cruise planner items as well as taxes and fees as well as prepaid gratuities refunded if they do not make the cruise.

Only the actual cruise fare is withheld.

True.  They will lose their cruise fare.  The taxes, fees, and prepaid onboard expenses will be reimbursed.

I'm sure the costs incurred in treating and hospitalizing patients who refused to get the Covid vaccine will cause a rise in insurance premiums a lot more than the insurance companies covering the cost of some home tests.

I appreciate the reply’s and perhaps for the moment we will stick with Celebrity for her first cruise which would still be a little over a year away.  Hopefully by then she can be vaccinated and children’s programs on both Celebrity and RCCL will be back to normal (or whatever the new normal works out to be).

    Martha

I am so very sorry for the loss of your son.  Your grandddaughter is very lucky to have you to raise her in his absence.  There will be so many travel adventures that lie ahead for all of you!  I would also suggest sticking with Celebrity.  My sister and BIL traveled with us several times on Celebrity when their twins were very young (started around age 5).  It was a great learning curve for them,  and they learned quickly how to handle themselves at a more formal dinner setting.  They adjusted beautifully.

My only suggestion would be perhaps starting with a shorter cruise (4-5 day) at first.  Then you can adjust accordingly if need be.

Again, condolences on the loss of your son.

No quaddople points for us.... I was likely to cancel Jewel sailing in 3 weeks anyway.

Good thing you didn’t. The 100 percent refund plus 100 percent cruise voucher only applies to those who didn’t already cancel with Cruise with Confidence.

No new announcements but someone asked during Q&A with the captain.

update on release: They’ve just now changed their mind and will no longer be releasing him after 5 days. The nurse on duty today is not the same as the one I called yesterday. The nurse today said that the CDC has updated to 5 days but that only applies to land and not cruise ships. It is still 10 days for cruise ships which means he won’t be released anymore, but once disembarked he’s free to travel back home since the 5 days requirement will have already been fulfilled on the ship. I know things change but this just seems like Nurse 1 interpreting one way and Nurse 2 another. Nurse 2 even said she doesn’t know what nurse 1 is doing. Really frustrating that we are getting inconsistent communication and now the false hope on the last day 😞

If he is still symptomatic is he getting on an airplane?  I thought the 5 days applied only to asymptomatic?
