  1. I have always been told that they are paid to go home if this happens at the end of their contract.

Also, back home for most of these workers they would be earning minimum dollars per week. When contrasting wage info they are making enough money to justify being away from home. I was told by a wait staff that they make much much more on a ship than if they stayed home to work.

And the discussion here about the minimum wage for tip earning workers is a bit skewed. The tips that these workers are making more than make up for the low wages. The tips are under reported for tax reasons and the low minimum rate keeps their income low enough to avoid a higher tax rate. These servers are not working for 2.13 an hour.

  2. It says the balcony is the same size and the cabin is the same size. I would not stay in that cabin. I would move right away to allow you the choice of where you want to be. I have had an adjoining cabin on Poesia and it became a new rule for me....never get one. I will tell you that I heard someone coughing and DH thought it was me. I heard them put ice in a glass. I heard tons of things I did not wish to hear..which included snoring from the cabin next door. I would rather sleep in a small cabin that was sound proof than a large one where I felt I had to tip toe around and hear all of their noises!! I think these cabins should not be sold and should be kept for families needing the adjoining cabins.

  3. The taxis and buses follow the same route. If there is a bus in front of the taxi, it also has to stop. It is not much faster taking the cab. Here is your problem. I do not think you will find a bus ( which are small passenger vans ) that have space open for all of you. I would contact a private tour driver and present him with the group for drop off and pick up. He would also pick you all up nearer to the port. I think it would be less than the cab.

  4. Never again. The conditions were a beautiful day. Other people that did the tour with me ( the boat part\taxi) looked at the first rock formation and said , NO. They were tall and realized they would have to bend over and shimmy through. I was facing my fears and I went. It really was too many people in the area and I had a panic attack.

I also meant no disrespect to you ever!! How did you know who I used? As a matter of fact I will be in Tortola on Feb 27 and thought about the beach, but after reading and watching a video of that road to the beach, I am nixing that. Not for me.

So I actually contacted the vendor I used before to see if there were any boat tours to snorkel and get to a beach.... I reminded them that they owed me big time.... HAve any suggestions besides the main vendors .... I do not want to spend over 200$ to snorkel.....

  5. Hi Blue water, I know we have spoken before here and you have said my experience was unusual. I meant no disrespect....

Very bad memories of that. We did prehire a boat to take us over and they wanted to get there fast. It was a thrill ride on its own.

Speedys was not an option because we were there on a sunday and the ferry schedule was would not work out as well. There must have been a lot of people there but getting inside where the rope to help you climb over that huge rock, and people not allowing you to do this because they were coming in from the other side and then more people filling that space coming in was a panic attack for me. I asked my husband to get me out of there and all we could do was become more assertive and ask that everyone stop and let us through. Once through to the other beach I again ran into some difficulty swimming through the boulders to the little beach that we just walked through. The current was swirling and stupidly I was swimming into it instead of walking. When I saw the swirling and realized I would not be able to get out to the beach, I tried to turn around but it knocked me under and rolled me around. My husband behind me picked me up and I was bleeding from knees, head and arms. As I said, I work out, am fit and was a fine swimmer. This day just was not my day. All in all I thought the beaches at the Baths were smaller than it looked on all videos and I was unimpressed. I guess being scared out of my mind going through the boulders and then getting the ---- kicked out of me with the rocks below the surface in a current made me dislike this place.

I know this is only my experience, but I cannot believe no one else who is claustrophobic found the experience of climbing through those boulders to be joyful. I really tried conquering my fears. Left me with nightmares!

  6. The main walk way is easier than the other. It is carved into the hill and most are not real steps, but rocks and dirt ledges. I am fit and it was a good 15 minute walk up. The trip through the rocks from one beach area to another is not for those with claustrophobia nor is it for someone who does not like to be a formation with people coming in from both sides filling up a small area. To be honest, this was the worst place I have ever gone to. The bumpy ride over on a speedboat and then a open air taxi ride over more bumpy roads. The 2 beaches were small and the rocks were just boulders in the water. Usually people would not go to beach where there was so many rocks impeding the beach experience.

  7. Going down to the Baths was not a hard walk. But the walk from Devils Bay to return to the taxi pick up point, if you go through the boulders, is steep and long. It took us about 15 minutes of active walking to get to the top. Also, the Baths were not beautiful to me. Going through the boulders got me very anxious and claustrophobic. I am tall and in shape!! Once through I was swimming from the beach through the boulders and got caught in a pretty bad rip current which took me and tossed me over rocks. Stood up and was bleeding on my head, knees and elbows.

Suffice it to say, The Baths were not a highlight of any cruise. I was kind of shocked at how small the beach areas were. I did not feel it was worth the time it took to ride over there( speedboat that got us to the taxi in record 25 bumpy minutes). Then there is the taxi ride, and then the baths. I expected a more beautiful beach area. It was small and crowded. Usually we hate beaches with rocks, here we sought it out and it was a big disappointment for us.

  8. We did this tour years ago. We had wonderful email contact with Juliette and I recall they picked us up by cab to bring us to their tour. From there we took a great tour, highlights. I see they have changed it a bit. Although we got to ride on the beach it was not a beach stop. We loved it.

  9. Post this on NCL and see the responses. Those who like NCL like it, and those who do not hate it. I generally hear people either loving the food or hating it. I always go with pricing and quality of the experience. If food is not an issue for you then I would lean towards NCL since it is such a better deal. If drinking is a expense for you and it is free on NCL this would be why I would go with NCL. NCL is known for having good entertainment, but some people never go to a show .... Think about what is important to you, make a pick and have a great time.
