  1. Machotspur, I too am like you. I have gone on youtube watching videos of the Grand Suite, but they seem to be the ones located at the front of the ship.  My travel agent has been in Suite 785 and she says it is a beautiful suite. I asked about the sofa and she remembered it as just being a straight sofa without the lounger.   The deck wraps around the side so you have options as to where to sit.  As far as the back of the ship having no railings I had no problem when I was in the Master Suite on the Mariner which is located at the front of the ship.  I do believe you have railings on the side balcony.

  2. Thank you all for the information.  I am just getting back into cruising and my feeble chemo brain has forgotten that the Splendor has been out to sea a few times so I had no need to compare the Splendor to the Explorer.  Thanks again MrMelvin for the information about the occasional shutter. That will not bother me a bit.
    Wishing all happy sailing.

  3. I have booked a 7 day cruise March 22, 2022 onboard the Splendor. Has anyone had experience with Grand Suite 785 located at the back of the ship ?  Any information is greatly appreciated. This will be my first time doing a 7 day cruise as I have always booked 10 days or longer.  Hopefully the pandemic will be under control by then.  Fingers crossed !

  4. I too am on this cruise and enjoying every minute. This is my first time traveling solo and I can report they take good care of us. I really enjoyed meeting the faces behind the names of the cruise critic members. Tonight is the Seven Seas Society party and I have a date with two very handsome officers. Sure there will be other people the officers but one can only dream 😉

  5. Caroldoll,

Are you sure Pritam will be the head butler? We have been trying to find out. Yes.....we are part of his fan club ! Who knows, maybe we will be looking down at you, or up at you. Does that give you any idea as to our location ???? I know Dominique will be the GM. Looking forward to meeting you.

  6. Thank you so very much for your comments and good wishes.

I am so sorry that you husband was diagnosed with Cancer, but glad that he is doing well and that hopefully you both can enjoy your upcoming cruise in March.

All of this is a reminder about what is important and what is not and to me why we try to focus on all that is good and enjoy each day.

We have experienced the loss of family members including my wife's sister who was only two years older than her 10+ years ago. And my wife has been diagnosed with two different rare diseases and while treatable right now we don't know what the future will be like. This is why we do the traveling that we've done and why we don't sweat the little things.

Sending you and your husband positive thoughts.

    Keith

Thank you for the positive thoughts. Our positive thoughts go out to you !

  7. Keith and Anne Marie,

I'm enjoying your blog and posts very much. As you say, enjoy life while you can. This past December we had to cancel a December cruise on the Spirit because my husband was diagnosed with cancer and he had to start immediate treatment. You never know what life will hand you. He's doing well now, so we are holding our breaths planning that we can enjoy our next cruise scheduled in March on Regent going to the far east.

Enjoy the beautiful warm weather, the ship and the lovely crew !

  8. I can't add much to this thread as all of our cruises so far except one have been with Regent...and I think I'd also like Seabourn or Oceania or perhaps Crystal - but since my wife and I both still work, our free time and vacation dollars are limited, and at the price of these vacations I honestly prefer to go with what I know and enjoy.

Until Regent gets to the point that I no longer feel like I'm maximizing my enjoyment, I'm going to stick with them. Perhaps if I find that perfect itinerary or find a deal I can't resist, I'm going to be a Regent fan-boy, and I'll gladly admit that.

That's not knocking any of the other lines, as I'm sure they're all perfectly nice cruises as well, but if I'm dropping that kind of coin on my annual vacation and I've been happy with Regent, I see no need to step outside of my comfort zone. Yet.

    :-)

What a lovely way to express what I feel. It's all about what you enjoy. :)

  9. Hmmmmm, I was incorrect just a couple of posts ago -- no big deal! In terms staying in the top suites, I can only post my experiences. I have not heard of (or read on CC) of ordering from the specialty restaurants and being served by my butler on Regent. However, we have done this when we were in a Vista suite on Oceania. It is clearly explained on the Oceania website. Kindly point us to the place on the Regent website where this benefit is described.

    Thank you![/quote

After I wrote my last comment, I remembered that on a cruise we took on the Voyager in December of 2010, we were also allowed to order from Prime Seven in the Master Suite. We did this for Christmas Eve and one other time. Really, do you think I am making this up? As I said, Regent is free to change the policies as it chooses, and the best idea is to have your TA check with Regent re: what special perks are included before you leave. I have not seen this policy on the Regent website, just as I have not seen many other perks for various suites on the website, but both times I have been in the Master Suite on two different ships (2010 and 2013) it has been allowed. Rather than tell a person that is paying for the MS that it is not allowed, I suggest it is far better to tell them to check. I will say I deal with a TA that is not a huge online agency, but is one of Regent's top sellers, and due to a south Florida location, has a personal relationship with many Regent officers. Maybe that makes it easier for her to get correct answers.

    I feel your pain. :D
