  1. I found a waterproof envelope/holder for my phone at WallMart for about 6$, thanks for that suggestion. I have also found some duck boots at a resonable price, I am ready to pack but will delay a couple more weeks to avoid wrinkles.

I have decided to leave my winter coat at home and just take the raincoat plus a fleece jacket, hoodie and regular tops. I do plan on taking some exercise pants that can be put under jeans if I don't eat too much.

The raincoat is almost knee length and should keep my pants dryer than the disposable type we used last year at Disney. I got soaked several times on that trip.😵 At least it was warm there.

Thanks to everyone for their advice

  2. Only problem with your idea is, the refund won't be given for a while [3 weeks perhaps] and the town was booked out due to the Senior bowl being in town. It was not a real hardship for us but could have been for those on a strict budget, it was an aggravation. They need to respond to the aggravation factor with some sort of appeasement, a free drink, t-shirt or similar would have been nice and a negligible expense to them, instead they ignored the cruiser's difficulties. The lack of notice and their cavalier attitude were bothersome to me.

I have cruised with CCL several times and have another cruise booked, I was quite disappointed in their attitude this time.

  3. I totally agree they can't control the weather but I do think they can control how they react to it. They did not alert the upcoming cruisers as soon as they could have, they did not keep people without text availability updated regularly, they were barely civil at the port [i know CCL does not totally control this].

I feel the situation could have been handled much more efficiently and with much more finesse but was not.

There is also the matter of the 4 hours or so that was lost that they ignored.

My question was regarding what, if anything, had anyone heard.

  4. Has anyone heard anything further from CCL about compensation?

It seems to me that not having to pay for the day we missed is not really compensation.

We actually missed about 28-30 hours depending on when the agents in Mobile allowed you into the parking lot at the port. :(

They did refund the missed port fee, big deal $10. That happens often and they always refund way less that what one pays in port fees.

I enjoyed our day in Fairhope but it cost me much more than it would have to stay home.

They knew about the delay sooner than they alerted anyone. They had to know on Sunday night the ship would not be there, why did they not alert everyone then so other plans could have been made.

The fact that the Senior Bowl was in Mobile it made hotel rooms scarce and more expensive.

If you do not text, you were basically in the dark about what was going on.:(

I guess you can tell I am not a happy camper. I also came home with the cold our tour guide had in Progresso.

  5. These are private homes, most set back from the street (i.e. not much visible), and in neighborhoods/towns fairly distant one from the other. Seems a bit invasive, and none too practical, to turn them into some sort of pseudo Hollywood celebrity homes tour.

(and having grown up in Harvard Square, with tour buses passing all the time, I can speak to the depth of contempt we had for tourists pointing out the windows at us as they rode by)

This just seemed a little [a lot] snarky to me. Along with the comments about getting a pronunciation dictionary and a map.

I will be perfectly fine with my own ideas in Boston, just thought that PBS and the show This Old House had already made a spectacle of these homes and peaked the interest in seeing them in person.

The last visit to Boston we saw the racing boats in dry dock which was quite interesting to me.

I am sure the Chihuly exhibit was amazing. We have some of his artwork here and I have been by his home/studio in Seattle so have enjoyed his art before.

  6. The PBS show This Old House has done several restorations in the Boston area over the years and since we are going to be in Boston next Oct I would love to see some of the things they have done. Outside of course since these are private homes. Does anyone know of a tour guide that could accommodate us? :confused:I might be able to get several people to join in if we can find a good tour guide.

I have tried a search without any success.

We have been to Boston several times and spent several days there doing the usual things and thought this might be interesting and different. :)
