Got them to waive the increase in the protection plan, but not budging on the difference in taxes and fees...just an "I'm sorry you were told wrong."

The cancellation thing is still there.  Upped to a supervisor who verified with an analyst, that that's just the way it is.  Because they waited to cancel my cruise until it's in the 75% penalty section, that's where it's going to stay.

Yes, I could have gotten a FCC or full refund...no, I don't plan on changing my mind, but really?   I can somewhat understand from a business standpoint...kind of...maybe.  But it just strikes me as a punk move from a customer service standpoint.  Maybe it's just me.  Maybe it was the 3.5 hours on the phone it took to get that far.

Has anyone else run into the cancellation penalty still applying if your cruise was cancelled and you did L&S?  Was contemplating calling again tomorrow to ask about it.

Backstory:  Our July 12, 2020 cruise was cancelled on May 20.  We did L&S to July 4, 2021, but instead of now having a new cancellation schedule and only the NRD be at stake until final payment , we have a note on our invoice that states "The booking is currently subject to USD 1852.25 cancellation penalties at time of this booking invoice 29 MAY 2020. This amount may increase based on the cruise penalty schedule."

    Got my new invoices...

Vacation Protection Plan went up $30 per room

Taxes and Fees went up even more than the agent I made the change with said (and I paid the updated charges at time of changing)

They are now saying that since we were in our 75% penalty phase at the time of change, we're continuing that penalty portion all the way through to next year.  (Oh, but it's okay, VPP will cover it 🤐).

And on one of the rooms (for my mom so she has to call in separately), her amount paid wasn't correct.

My thought is to call back again...unless anyone thinks I don't have a leg to stand on for the top 3 (of course my mom needs to get her amount paid corrected, that's easy enough to prove).

Prepaid gratuities are refunded along with port taxes and fees.

yes your final payment date gets adjusted.

Thanks!  They made no mention of the taxes and fees getting refunded so I guess I'll just watch my account and updated invoice.

    Not right

It was odd, and I was fine paying the difference in taxes and fees, but I didn't understand doing it right this second and then being past final payment a year in advance.

New invoice shows 2021, so I'm less worried.

New question:. My mom had prepaid gratuities on her original invoice but on this one they weren't.  My thought is is that they're going to be refunded and then she just has to repurchase them.  She's going to wait until the whole times aren't as long to do that but does anybody know offhand?

  6. Redeemed mine at various times, starting in November last year for a cruise leaving in 8 days. They all showed up last week (maybe week before) on our invoice and in the cruise planner.

Have done several times with no issues. Always print the confirms just in case, but never needed them. Can take out as cash from guest services.

  7. Ten is alot really. I mean if one has a license to carry, one should know that guns will not pass through detectors of any kind. Having said this, I do feel really, really naked & vulnerable each time I'm not carrying. as I carry everywhere I go when stateside.

It's probably not that they don't know it won't pass through, it's that they didn't think about it being there because it's always there.

I got called to the naughty room for a bottle of shampoo. I usually pack new toiletries so that I don't have to remember to get them out of the shower before we leave the house and I'm going to use them anyway... So I went to Target and they had the HUGE mondo economy size bottle of my shampoo on clearance. SCORE!

I think the entire security group laughed when I said "Of course you can open it and smell it, it's shampoo!" and it really was shampoo. The group in front of me had 5 full size bottles of "Listerine".

  8. We have one Set Sail for all 4 of us...2 adults in 1 room and 2 kids in adjoining room. I did it back in March, but from what I remember, you check in the kids to one point, and then you go back to your check in and add them to your Set Sail for the billing portion.

On my Set Sail, it lists all four names on one piece of paper under the billing info and then at the very bottom there are two sample luggage tags.

    Hope that helps!

  9. The best part about Southwest to me is that I can make changes if the flight cost or my situation changes and I'm not "out" any extra. For my son's college orientation, booking from SLC-DAL the cheapest flight by about $100 was a long one with a layover. Some random time later, I checked again and could now get the direct flight was the same price that I'd previously booked at. Quick change and no additional fees.

Booked one flight on points and kept checking and one random morning I got a lower point price. No extra fees and I got my points back. (I don't know how other airlines do it because I've never flown with them enough to use points. Work generally used SW.)

  10. How far out is your sailing and what ship? I redeemed my Visa points in March and in April for our upcoming 6/17/18 sailing on the Symphony and neither of them has hit my cruise planner yet. Our travel companions called RCI asking when theirs would be applied and RCI told them a week or two before sailing. When we did the Anthem last summer my Visa points OBC was applied to the cruise planner within a week of redeeming the points and it was about 2 months prior to sail date.

Frustrating as we want to make some pre-cruise purchases since there are sales going on.

My 6/17/18 OBC hasn't posted yet either, and I redeemed them in November. (Not that this helps, but at least to let you know it's not just you.)

  11. We put a "limit" on our kids' cards on their first cruise, mainly so that if they lost their card someone wouldn't go hog wild with it and buy out the jewelry store. (I know it brings up pictures, etc. just using an example.) But, it was suggested to do more of a weekly limit (it's been a few years) and I don't think it included arcade charges. Also, make sure to see if the gratuities will count against their "limit". It did with ours, and we had to go adjust it because we didn't count on that.

But we also told them that they would be limited by us to $xx dollars a day and if they went over that, then they would be forced to come and sit with us all day no matter where we went and how boring it was. They had the refreshment package so that they didn't have to worry about spending their daily amount on drinks - my rule was if it was out of your hand except at your table while dining, then it was no longer yours and get another drink. We'd made a point to check it out on the tv each night and sit with them and discuss what they wanted to spend etc.

  12. If you do the classic soda for the boys most of the ships use the freestyle machines. So, the boys can get more than sodas. They can get lemonade, fruit punch, powerade, water, etc.

We did adjoining balconies on our last cruise and I completely agree with the others- a second bathroom was wonderful. .

If you go out of Galveston, Liberty doesn't have Freestyle machines, so you're limited to a few soda choices. However, we've always purchased a drink package for our boys because if they put a drink down on a table while doing something, I'd rather they just get another one and not worry if mom's going to have a cow because they spent too much on drinks.

And yes, the extra bathroom is needed.
