  1. Usually, I would wear a dressy sandal to dinner. They are easier to pack if nothing else. What shoes do people wear to dinner? I will probably wear pants every night.

Also, do people wear shorts on board? Or capris, or long pants and jeans?  When my summer break starts in June, I wear shorts pretty much every day. I'll pack jeans for visiting ports.

Thanks. We were in Canada on the East coast last summer and it was the hottest weather they had in 10 years. Everybody was so hot and we had all these long pants because we thought it was going to be cooler. I'm also used to driving to my cruises so I'm trying to plan out my suitcase packing; I'm not used to being limited to airline restrictions.

  2. We are having the same discussion about hotels except we are staying 2 nights.

My husband wants to stay at Pan Pacific as we'll be boarding a cruise. I just can't pull that trigger on the price.

I'm also looking at Hyatt, The Burrard, and Blue Horizon. I'm looking at all my discount avenues for the best price but  a lot are non refundable and I'm not at that point yet. Travel Zoo has Pinnacle Harbour Front  for a discount.

I'm afraid my husband will win out due to my ability to not make a decision,

I'd stay downtown - that way your full day and the morning of embarkation will avoid the delays coming in from the airport. Even if you choose an airport hotel that's within 10mins walk of SkyTrain you're looking at 40mins each way, longer if SkyTrain is on the evening schedule - and a hotel with a shuttle adds potentially an extra 30+ minutes (they all have just one vehicle to the best of my knowledge, so if it just left you have to wait until it gets back from it's airport run). Considering you need to make that trip at least three times, that's at best two hours and easily three or more wasted of your very limited time.

Thank you for your advice. My travel agent pretty much said the same thing.

Now looking for hotels closer to down town. We'll suck it up and take a taxi but then we shouldn't have to worry about traveling far after that.

When departing YVR we usually stay at the Coast Vancouver, which is just across the river from the airport. We find the rates reasonable. They have a shuttle to the airport, but not sure if they do pick ups. Lots of taxis available at the airport and the rates are fixed, based on destination.

To get downtown, you could have the hotel shuttle take you back to the airport, where you can catch Skytrain, which will take you downtown. Vancouver also has lots of buses in addition to Skytrain.

Thanks for your advice. Coast is one of the hotels I'm looking at.

  5. Coming in late from the East Coast, probably won't be collecting luggage until 10:30 PM. We have two nights before the cruise. I'm wondering if it would be best, at that late hour, to get a hotel by the airport. Will we be able to get around on public transportation? Thinking of doing the hop on hop off bus.

How would we get to the port? Uber? Taxi?

    Thanks

May I suggest you look at the train from Seward departing 6 pm arriving Anchorage about10 30pm taxi or shuttle to airport

major marine has 6 hour tour to Kenai Fjord 11.30 departure ( return by 5.30 pm)

five minute walk to shuttle to train

bags can be booked at train depot before Kenai fjord tour

Thank you for the suggestion. I shall look. The thing about the excursion is that is was one easy all together package that includes a buffet. I think the train is over $100 ?

Doesn't the Celebrity WEB site tell you when you get back to Anchorage?

    DON

Not specifically. I will get a hold of them today. It's an 11 hour excursion and says that it's only for people with an 11 pm flight or later or staying at a hotel. I thought I read 'meet at 10 am' somewhere but I can't find that again. It;s a 5 hour boat tour.

Trying to find out if we are cramming too much in.

  8. Looking at booking the 11 hour Seward excursion (Celebrity)  of the fjord which will then drop us at the airport in Anchorage. Has anyone done this? I'm assuming its bus transportation which should be about 3 hours? Then we were going to book a flight out at 2;30 AM.

Can anyone tell me if this plan will work?

    Thanks!

  9. We sailed last week. Had no problem asking for and receiving the MDR menu. A couple next to us ordered off of both one night. One night there was nothing on the menu I wanted, we tried to leave, and they brought us back and brought me the MDR menu.

  10. The good part of Snorkel Park is that it is extremely easy to get to as it is in walking distance. No need for an excursion. The bathhouse is nice. For your little kids, it might be nice but it is not a postcard beach.

  11. Last time we sailed AQ, we decided to go to MDR one night. We were told to go anytime. I like the MDR to meet new people at dinner because it's a short period of time but it's nice to talk to other people occasionally. Well, we ended up sitting alone and service was soooo slow, and the place was noisy. Couldn't wait to get back to Blu. Pretty funny.

  12. Loved Tobacco Bay, even in the rain. Went to St George and rented a taxi with another couple (strangers) that need a ride too. We didn't sit too long in chairs (due to the rain) but there was a canopy to put stuff under to protect from rain. There was a small small changing area. There was food but I don't think we ordered anything.

  13. Has anyone done the Devil's Isle Cruise beach snorkel with Celebrity? I was thinking it might be good to have an excursion planned because we're going at American Cup time. This one looks like a good getaway, don't have to worry about transportation, and there looks like a variety of things to do.
