  1. Was on a Viking Longship and was below the jogging deck and it was problematic, but more so in the afternoon, when people were jogging before they got ready for dinner. While it wasn't horrible, it was annoying and I would not book another cabin, again, that is located beneath the jogging deck.

That is what I am thinking too. Definitely in a lower deck suite category below the folks under the running/walking track

  2. Seems all longships have followed the larger cruise line standard of putting the best cabins directly underneath decks where noise potential is high. I have looked at Viking, AMA and Uniworld and question noise levels underneath the top deck. Especially joggers and chair movers - help!

  3. I agree with you about the organized touristy stuff. Last time we cruised Hawaii, we found it so easy to rent cars and do-it-yourself. We could go on our own schedule and change things up if we came upon something that looked interesting :) We only did 2 "organized" tours....an airplane ride over Kauai and the sunrise bike tour down Haleakala on Maui. I highly recommend both :)

Which ship will you be on?

We are flying into Kona for my other halfs birthday

  4. Manini'owali Beach at Kua Bay and I absolutely loved it there. We plan to go back in March when we stop in Kona.

We will also be in Kona the first week of March

I'm trying to get ll the info I can scrounge. Not really wanting to do organized tourist things. Most interested in things we can do as a couple

  5. I've been doing my research. Our ship will stop in Nawiliwili. From what I understand that is the east side of the island. I read the Waimea Canyon is a good place to visit as well as the Nepali coast. We will be renting a car. We are in port from 8 to 5. Will we have enough time to visit both these places?

We did the Mauna Loa Helicopter tour - 2 hours and DOORS OFF! Absolutely breathtaking! I'm adding links to my GoPro

  6. There are a bunch of shops and some other restaurants, but I'm really not into shopping. There's also a little beach at the port, but that didn't really appeal to me. Here's a pic of the beach we went to--the water was so clear. Car rental was less than $50 and the beach was just up the road. Really easy to drive to.

  7. Well Absalon is located in the Vesterbro district, the meatpacking district is located very close by but its not the same place.

Yes the hotel is located next to Istedgade that is a wannabe red light district.

When I say wannabe i mean that its not as bad as it was 10-20 years ago.

Vesterbro has seen alot of gentrification and now hosts alot of trendy cafés and hotels, probably helped by the nearby popular meatpacking district.

But yes you still see the sex shops and other funny establishments and yes there might be prostitutes on the street corner but its not that bad.

If its possible they can avoid most of the problems with noise etc if they can find a room not facing the street.

And if its to big an issue then book at the First Hotel Mayfair or Scandic Webers that are located on/near the same street but further away from Istedgade.

But look at the reviews on TripAdvisor and read the newest reviews.

    Thank You

  8. Danish Viking! My friends are staying at the Absalon Hotel in the meat packing district. I read some bad reviews on TripAdvisor especially ones regarding this hotel is right in the middle of the red light district, so if you have your windows open all you hear all night are pimps, drunks and Prostitutes arguing with one another, that along with emergency vehicles and lights and sirens. Should I tell them to change hotels?

  10. We are just off the Oasis of the Seas yesterday. We held a sail away party on our gigantic balcony and had 24 people attend. The Concierge Israel set it up and the bar staff and fold that brought the canapés, cheese plate, veggie tray me desert trays were awesome. They did everything from table cloths to cleanup.

Needless to say it was decently priced to have 12 beers, two red wines and two white wines along with the food. If you plan to hold such an event, I recommend telling your guests to bring a beverage with them. The latter really cuts down on the cost.

If I can figure out how to post pictures, I will get some of them posted here

  11. Hey Bobby...

I'm curious if the Concierge was able to get something set up for you. We're on the same week as you, 15 friends and fam, and would like to do the same.

Haven't received the official Concierge welcome email yet so I didn't want to bombard them with stuff prematurely.

Feel free to email me with any info/details you may have if that is more appropriate than posting here.

    Thanks!

Mike - I haven't heard back from the Concierge. I did receive my Suite Concierge email from Royal Caribbean. We set sail this Saturday. Hopefully I hear something before we fly to Ft Lauderdale

  12. bobbyd, we are in 1720 the week after you. We have stayed in this 1720 five other times, and we always try to return to it. You will love the cabin and balcony is the best. Nothing like dinner from the dining room on the balcony, while the sun sets.

    Andrew

Andrew - I am very excited that the price dropped and I got to jump from a GS to the SkyLoft! That balcony is HUGE (from the pics I have seen)! My partner and I are planning a sail away cocktail hour for 20 people on that balcony! CANT WAIT!

  13. [quote name='Kcjarvis']Speaking of the suite lounge, here is the new sign that popped up a few days ago

Ken - can you pan that camera left and snap a pic of Sky Suite 1720 exterior?

    Loving this review!!!!
