  1. You missed where I'm traveling solo. No partner bags. And I travel carry on only... One of my big travel pleasures is sitting on my balcony (ship or land) and having a glass of wine in the evening, I even do it when camping.
  2. Have you checked to see if there is some special event happening in MIA at that same time? Just a thought. Also, see if the price of a place further away and with a taxi/Uber/Lyft added in would be lower in cost? Hints from a former Front Desk, Reservations and Concierge person 😉 I hated those 3rd party reservations!!! I was always the one on the shift as Supervisor who had to try to fix all those issues.
  3. That's when having an ah so corkscrew comes in handy... Bummer about the 1 bottle limit now. Traveling solo, 1 bottle for a Transatlantic cruise isn't going to get me through my balcony Happy Hour 😞 Hey George - are you or were you ever a cruise travel agent? I swear the person who helped me with my first cruise was named George C (back in the day when TAs could do some on CC).
  4. Has anyone tried using your phone as a hotspot and then accessing the 'net via the phone? It would make life easier than buying access for 2 devices. I'm on a major budget and not having to pay the extra for 2 devices for 14 day cruise would be helpful.
  5. I had the same reaction yesterday. I've had people tell me to wait until the Black Friday stuff comes out. Well, the first email on it was yesterday for me so I went and looked. I was a little steamed that the Premium Access was gone. I'll keep waiting, i guess.
  6. Welcome Cate!! I started this way back in COVID times as a way to keep in contact to lift up each other. We've lost some and we've gained some. I appreciate Cruise Critic for allowing us to keep this going. We've become a great resource for so many things. We share clothing ideas, cruise ideas, hotel ideas, health, food. The group has gotten me through some truly dark times and I try to give back for that.
  7. Correct. Nothing like two big government entities not being in sync. Medicare and Social Security need to work better together. I started Medicare before I started SS. I was working but when I turned Medicare-eligible I stopped my employer's awful med plan. I paid directly to Medicare. But when I started Social Security this past May, Social Security paid to Medicare. Somehow it didn't get recorded properly. BUT, to fix my Medicare, it was Social Security which had to do it. I am confused but still happy it's fixed.
  8. What a relief for you!!! That is fantastic news. Have a great time planning this one! After trying to get a human being online for 2 days, I finally got someone from Social Security yesterday. My hiccup with my Medicare Part B going away was fixed and they are sending me a new card. It will be here just in time for my bi-annual endocrinologist appointment in a couple of weeks. Word of advice - if you go from paying your own Medicare to having it taken out of your Social Security when you start getting it, be sure that they don't think you've stopped paying!! I spent a few hour yesterday afternoon just laying down, putting my headphones on, and listening to the latest Andrea Bocelli CD, "Duets." It's a release for his 30th anniversary. Some old releases, some new. A wide variety of artists who perform with him. If you like Bocelli, get this one! I somehow was lucky to get notified of pre-release time back this Summer and ended up receiving an autographed set of the CD (it's a 2-disk release)! OOTD: my wide-legged Vuori pants and a Tshirt - the joggers had to go into the wash.
  9. Well, Mother Nature is dumping on you and not giving UT a flake. Sunny and 30s today, sunny and 30s-50s the next 5 days. Maybe a chance to drive down the mountain and do a pre-Thanksiving TJ's run. A new one opened up 2 weeks ago that is only 25 minutes straight down the hill. The other 2 are a little further. I'm still moping. If you like the flavored sparkling waters - Waterloo has 3 new ones: a Pina Colada, a Rosé and a Mojito flavored. I was pleasantly surprised by the Rosé. I thought it would be grape-y, but it is a nice light touch. OOTD: sweats all around.
  10. I have to drop my ballot into the drop box at the library. Just too messy the last few days to venture out in the car, freakin' snow. OOTD: leggings, my Tshirt with the big blue heart on it, a fleece jacket. I'd wear my red Patagonia but, well, you know...😸
  11. Lois: Thank goodness you are home! I'll keep hoping for good results for you!!🤞 In case someone is going to Trader Joes soon: The Butternut Squash Lasagne in the frozen section is tasty. The squash is pureed and made into a beshamel sauce and is the stuff between the layers of pasta and cheese. There are pumpkin seeds on top and some inside for crunchiness. I had it last night and was pleasantly surprised. Snowed overnight a few inches. Thick heavy stuff again. Staying in the 30s today so a chance for the ski areas to crank up the snowmaking all day. OOTD: leggings and a sweatshirt.
  12. thank Mother Nature. We're supposed to get a little more today. Went to my hair stylist today. Nothing new, just chatted, colored my grey spots, added a little copper toner to do more definition. Went to the market afterwards to pick up my prescription and pick up groceries. OOTD: my black Woolx leggngs, my Tshirt with the big blue heart on it. Wore my flower-embroidered denim moto jacket. AND I wore my new boots!!! No issue with them at all with the full afternoon of wear. Definitely comfy.
  13. Melody - I'll talk to Mother Nature to get the snow your way! It has helped getting out wildfire up in the Uintas tamped down to mostly controlled. Purple - it's true you can't force people out of situations. I know that from first-hand experience as a kid. Just keep your communication lines open. It must give some feeling of relief that your Mom is getting hospice involved. While heartbreaking, it should provide some respite. I had that "Error" yesterday, too. I just gave up after awhile. I don't have the patience for errors that should have been caught before going public. Too many years as a software tester got me to that point. OOTD: Sunny and cool - in the 30s. So, just the same ole, same ole - joggers &Tshirt.
  14. I'll say TTS. I'm an 8.5 (not wide and not narrow 😸) and these and my other Sofft boots fit just fine right out of the box. I think I was drawn to these because I'm in love with my 2 pair of Sharnell II boots - high with the back tie, one black, one the "cashmere". I was able to wear both right out of the box for an 8-hour work day last Winter. These are the "little sister" of them - they just didn't "grow" as tall, otherwise exactly the same. The zipper entry makes it easy peasy to get on/off. Awful day today. Thick, heavy, wet snow. It's making the trees all bow over.
  15. Well Lois, I'm glad no cancer cells were in the fluids. We're keeping up the good thoughts! Melody - we've been having a shipload of truck rollovers and crashes also on I-80. Going too fast, using brakes instead of engine braking, burning up brakes, curvy section of Interstate, 6% grade... I'm afraid to drive down the canyon most times. My boots arrived today!! That was fast. Gotta say, they are very soft and comfy right out of the box. I like the color - kind of a caramel/tan. The toes are "antiqued" to give some variation in color. I took a few quick snaps so you can get an idea of them. I think they are going to be an excellent addition to the wardrobe. OOTD: a little cooler and very cloudy. My newly-washed Woolx leggings and a Tshirt are the gear of the day for me.
  16. Feeling a little uplifted that you felt well enough to go to the grocery store, Lois. Definitely take the rest of the day for couch surfing! Melody - go to the Sofft website and take a look first. They have good photos of them. And more colors to tempt. If Luggage is it, THEN to to the QVC site and see if you can still get them cheap. Cynthia - I am planning to try to work Evora into my trip. Yes, I know you aren't beachy 😉. I like a good, rugged oceanfront so that's why I'm thinking Lagos. I wouldn't be laying out at the beach, but walking the bluffs and maybe taking a boat out to the arches and such. Supposed to be a cool little town. And, they have some good seafood 😸. I was going to drive down to the Valley today, but a semi rolled and caught fire in the westbound lanes of I-80. It's been closed since 8:30 this morning. So, I'm just hanging out up here and doing more reconnaissance for the trip. OOTD: newly-washed Vuori joggers and a Tshirt. One of these day I'll have to put on actual pants 😸
  17. Janet - I couldn't imagine having afib - it has to be frightening. Good to know you received some new meds - hope they do the job w/o side effects! Lois - you are right - nothing you can do about it, so just PLEASE take it easy!! I hate health decisions that make no sense. I have been browsing around for this year's winter boot/bootie/shoe. I buy one new pair every year. Sofft has a new moto-type boot in the Aquasoftt waterproof line - the Leanna. It has a good lug sole on it for winter traction. I liked the Luggage tan color - one I don't have. they will be multipurpose - jeans, pants, leggings, dresses, skirts. I have 2 pair of the Aquasofft Sharnell tall boots so I know the fit and feel. They were a little pricey most sites - $189. But I happened to see them on a google search on the QVC site for $122 and then I got $20 off for first time purchase! I'll be able to retire my Steve Madden wheat-colored moto boots. They served me well since 2009!! More snow coming Tuesday night and then the high temp will be in the upper 30s to low 40s the rest of the week. I guess it's goodbye to anything resembling warm 😿 Oh - I went and reserved some nights at the H10 Racó del Pi in Barcelona. The dates I'll be in Barcelona are firm so I could do that. I had some nice email chats with their Reservations team. I wanted a refundable/changeable rate and none were listed. they were able to give one to me for $10/night more than the pre-pay/non-refundable one. Maybe still being able to converse in "reservations and Front Desk"-speak helped. So, one thing down. Still so much to do. Anyone do a road/train trip in Portugal? Does it make sense to go North-South or South-North? Airports are at each end (Porto and Faro) so that isn't an issue. Lisbon is in the middle of it so it doesn't make sense to backtrack one way or the other.
  18. If you book right now, use FALLSALE promo code and join club H10 you can get the same discount, just no free breakfast (I never get the hotel breakasts). Just booked the H10 Racó del Pi for my April TA.
  19. Cynthia - I was looking at the H10 hotel that you recommended for Barca. I know you said you had a tiny room - was it the twin bed room that was on the top floor with just a skylight? I was curious how this one felt with no real window. For 13EU/night there is a "classic room" that has a window in to the courtyard. I was browsing around and some places I thought of around on my trip are already full!! I can for sure book Barcelona now but then I have to get my act together and figure how many days where to do the rest. I can probably book for the end of the trip: I can do either Paris or Amsterdam. I'm leaning toward Amsterdam because I've never been there.
  20. OMG Lois!!! Did it come on suddenly?? I'm so glad you decided to take yourself to the hospital! Keeping the good thoughts going!
  21. I have to do flu, 'vid, and RSV! I have to pick up one more prescription (I didn't realize it was that low the other day!) so I may do 2 of the 3, then the last one a little later. I hope Lois is OK.
  22. Oh no Lois!!! First thing that popped in my brain was RSV. I hope the tests show nothing but the usual seasonal crap that goes around. Melody - That blue Ultimat bottle is beautiful, I have to say. I gave it to one of my Front Desk agent "kids" who collects bottles. I also have a ruby red one from a cherry vodka they had at one time. On tonics to go with the gin: Fever Tree Mediterranean. It has notes of rosemary and lemon thyme. At Jaleo, they make a "mediterranean G&T" with it. The contents are on their website - some vermouth, a little lime, lemon. It is another goodie. I found some of it yesterday at the market where my pharmacy is. I'm going to give it a try tonight. OOTD: another pair of leggings and a Smartwool hoodie tunic. Comfy,
  23. OK. don't laugh, but... I get migraines from tequila. It only takes a shot. I haven't touch tequila in decades. My vodkas of choice aren't available anymore since they are Russian. My sipping vodkas ☹️. Another one I love but I have to drive to Las Vegas for it is Ultimat. Made in Poland from wheat, rye and potato. Smoooooooth. And it comes in a beautiful colbalt blue crystal bottle. If I'm mixing, it's the Tito's that I've picked up at work when we divide up the leftover alcohol, or the local Five Wives. Five Wives is made from 100% corn. It is supposedly available in Colorado Springs, at Downtown Liquor... OOTD: jeans and a sweatshirt. I have to into town to pick up a prescription AND buy the food for Squirrel that I forgot yesterday 🙀
  24. I saw that. I don't know enough at all about gin to know what is good or bad. The only gin that I've had is Hendrick's and I know for sure that is premium. My mom always said "champagne taste, beer pocketbook" 😸 OOTD: another groundhog day. I will put on another shirt since I have to go to the store today to pick up some food and some feed for Squirrel.
