  1. I stayed at the Hotel De Tourny this past summer for a few days. I did like the hotel and it's location. There is a Paul at the end of the block to get morning croissants. A Carrafour Express the other way a block away to pick up any last minute snacks. It's maybe a 5-10 minute walk to the Place des Quincones and the Place de la Bourse and the waterfront. Lots of restaurants and shops just South of Quincones, including the large outdoor shopping mall of Rue Sainte-Catherine. It's not a US chain hotel, and it's small. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
  2. It will be like good ole' UCLA when Coach Wooden retired. He had been there for decades. Games just weren't the same. SU won me some money back some years ago. They were playing someone in the NCAA finals and the spread was huge. I bet the spread because I knew there was no way the loss would be that big. The other team lost but beat the spread. I got $20 for my $20 - yes, I'm a HUGE bettor 😹
  3. Glad to hear you're feeling better. I'm there with you about the hair - mine is finally starting to grow back! My "hairlets" are about 1.5" long now. Even my stylist says it's coming back well. And, I had my first dose of Covid back in Jan/Feb 2020!!! I do have to go get my 4th booster, though. Do NOT want another visit from the 'vid...
  4. I think I'm just over all the people trying to cajole freebies out of me and my Front Desk folks. I don't fall for the "$20 tip for an upgrade" trick, either. And, since I have to deal with it myself, I do not try to get anything from anyone. I respect most front-facing employees nowadays. I've been known to actually apologize to an agent for the bad behavior of the person in front of me at the desk.
  5. You can buy beer of a certain strength and some of those awful wine coolers at the grocery. But for wine, alcohol, high strength beer and pre-mixed drinks, we have to make the trek to the state store. Big deal this summer - they put in refrigerators in the store so you can buy cold beer!! Day from He!! yesterday. All by myself at the Lodge. That means things will go wrong. The garage door stopped accepting key cards, so I had to open the door from the console here until I could get a tech to get on the phone with me to troubleshoot. Ugh. People were parking in other people's spots and it got ugly once. My least favorite guest from last year was back and tried to get checked in early - I was in NO mood to argue with him this time, so I let him in 2 hours early (it was ready anyway). No time to bake cookies for apres ski, but I did make time to have wine & cheese hour. The wind was howling all day an it was snowing/sleeting/raining. Ugh. At least my house had a little thawing of the driveway then only an extra inch of light snow - only took about 5 minutes to clear. But, the highway into work was like a sheet of ice - chunky, iced over snow/sleet from overnight. It took me 45 minutes to go what is usually 20 minutes to work. LOTS of people trying to get up to ski plus I forgot it was 8:30 in the morning instead of 10:30. What a difference a few hours make!! By myself again today. At least tomorrow I have my maintenance guy and our new intern. OOTD: jeans, black/grey turtleneck Tshirt, white Athleta oversized hoodie vest, pink hightops.
  6. I had to laugh at this. When I was in charge of the Front Desk at several resorts, how you looked made ZERO difference to me. The only time someone got an upgrade was if it was required by their Frequent Guest status or book with AMEX Plat or Centurion. Maybe if your 3rd party booker screwed up and we didn't have the room you supposedly booked you would get what we had left and that could be an upgrade. 😉 ETA: I forgot to say I also wear compression sleeves (not socks) on my legs when I fly. Been doing that since I had my shattered my left leg back in 2007. I like the sleeves because I can put them on when I get on the plane and take them off at the end.
  7. Last summer, going over to Europe, I wore my Pact Airplane Pant (no longer available) and Airplane Poncho (really a light hoodie sweatshirt), a white organic cotton Tshirt under that. I think I wore my Merrell trail runners. I had one of my scarves with me. On the way home, I wore my Faherty faded railroad stripe overalls, a white organic cotton Tshirt and my pink high tops. Brought my Airplane Poncho with me. Since I flew Delta One, I could be comfy whatever I wore, but my overalls are actually very comfy. I had already shipped home my Merrells and some other things because it was just too darn hot. I was nonstop home go I could look as grungy as I wanted to be at the end of a 10+ hour flight - no need to look pretty for an upgrade 😉
  8. Bummer. Weird that the soles were slippery - I didn't feel mine are slippery. Yeah, not a padded tongue but I didn't even notice that when I wore them.
  9. I like the telemedicine aspects of service now. I use it frequently. I have no problem with it when I have no need to have my NP physically check something.
  10. It was a full charter by Adventure Women. The barge was through CroisiEurope. It was the Anne-Marie. From Arles to Sete. I really did have a good time. There were only I think 12 of us. The crew was so very friendly and made sure we always had a good time. Our excursions were good and some were women-centric (woman-run ranch, woman-run oyster fisher, history of women's role in Arles). Excellent food. But, a casual feeling for us women.
  11. I was thinking of the height from the actual bottom the bag to where the wheels hit the ground. The width would stay the same. I mistyped, I think. I was thinking if your bag dimensions were say, 22x14x9, the 14x9 could be the same, but you could lose up to 2" from the floor to the actual bag with the wheels. Does that make sense? My 2wheeler has a larger bag space even though it and my 4wheeler show the same dimensions. But, my 2wheels are kind of embedded on the sides, not sticking all the way out the bottom. I don't have access to them, so I'm trying to visualize them.
  12. Now, try and find the Salted Caramel Noosa FROZEN yogurt!!!!! My pharmacist gave me some good news on my Rebylsus - he has been told by Big Pharma where he orders it that they will be sure I always have my scrip available. last time he could only get me 30 days worth on my 90 day scrip. Small successes. Both ski resorts up here announced today that they are extending the season an extra week. So, we have to decide if I stay another week or not. They don't really need me that last week if no one is booked, but I won't turn down "free" money to work 5 more days. Vegas is put on temporary hold until I find out what is going to happen. Mother Weather lied to me. There was supposed to be just a few flurries with no accumulation today. Well, it's been snowing since noon and it is sticking to the road. Please, make it stop!!!!!!
  13. With the 4-wheeler, you are losing possible packing space as the wheels are built on bottom of the bag rather than integrated like the 2-wheelers. It's a good 2" of height x width of your bag wasted. I'd rather have that extra and have just 2 wheels... Yes, my one 2-wheeler has been "off road" in Kenya and a few multi-week camping trips (I do walk-in campsites most of the time).
  14. Sorry, but the first thing that popped into my head was the insurance commercial where the guy is washing his trash cans...
  15. I've been serving a Castle Rock and a Cupcake Chard here at my Lodge all winter (we do wine & charcuterie every Fri and Sat apres ski) and the guests and owners seem to like it. Both have screw tops. You shouldn't have to worry about putting it in the fridge - just have your attendant fill you ice bucket and keep it in there.
  16. I actually like the original one better than Cali Red. My issue with my State Store is they don't carry a huge selection of wine, although it is indeed the biggest wine store in the state. They usually stock up based on what the restaurants and bars are buying. Why I'm hitting up the store in Vegas. Yes, we are getting dumped on in a big way this year. Not as big as Tahoe or Big Bear in CA, but this is the biggest dump I think I've seen in maybe 10 years. And, it's not over. Another 7-10" tomorrow predicted, an inch or so each day from then until Friday when we could be blessed with another 18" and maybe 6" on Saturday. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO over this!!! Spent 20 minutes this morning blowing and shoveling about 6" off the driveway and 14" from the front where the plow put stuff. Cynthia - the wardrobe sounds good so far! I'd check a little more for the temps before you decide to ditch or take the fleece. My one BFF and her family were just over at one of the hills in Japan skiing 2 weeks ago (her DH is stationed on Okinawa now). Looked at the Athleta sale and didn't see anything off hand that immediately called to me. But, I may look again 😉 A bachelorette party here this weekend left a very nice bottle of Cote de Provence. It is a Jeroboam-size bottle and kind of pretty. I looked it up and it was about $150. There was some left and I cried when I had to empty it down the kitchen sink. I figure I poured out about $50 worth... A photo with a Heineken bottle next to it for size comparison.
  17. There is a whole line of it now. I had a bottle of "The Uprising" - a red aged for a month in Rum barrels. Totally smooth. I'm going down to Las Vegas at the end of my season and try to find some of Martha's whites and Snoop's gold rose... My state liquor store doesn't have them. Sharon - I think I saw the wave... Hope you don't run into nasty turbulence on the flights!! Right now, my job ends April 16. But, every one is thinking that Deer Valley may extend the ski season an extra week. Until I hear, I'm not booking my hotel rooms in Las Vegas... It's dumping again right now - been doing it since about 1pm. The roads are a mess again. I think I'll be doing the "1st gear, 5mph" drive down the mountain again. And, my driveway is going to be a nightmare as the plow went and dumped more hard stuff about 2 ft high at the end of my driveway. I couldn't move it this morning. I may have to take my lawn edger to it tonight to try to break it up and move it to the side. Wish me luck!
  18. I forgot to mention Cariuma sneakers. There is a bamboo woven one, kind of like mesh, called the IBI. I tried a pair when I was also looking at the Olu Kai lows. They were nice, but I like the cut of the Olu Kai better. And having 2 shoes in one was a bonus when packing small and light.
  19. The one thing about staying in St. Germain was that 2 of the restaurants I wanted to try were within a few blocks of des Marrioniers. They were actually across the steet from each other (Brezah for amazing buckwheat crepes and Le Comptoir the classic bistro). The entire area was nicely walkable and loaded with places to eat and drink. When I was in Paris before, I stayed with friend in the Marais area. Also easily walkable, but it didn't have the active feel that St. Germain had for me. As with everything, to each her own. I would stay at des Marrioniers again because it is a known quantity to me now and I like the area.
  20. I'm on the hunt, too. I'm an Athleta swimsuit person. Different size tops and bottoms of different coverage. Title Nine has some cute pieces, too. My paddle shorts are Title Nine. I'd like to see if I can find a 1-piece this year, but finding one that fits on my size 14-16 top and size 10 bottom could prove "interesting." Land's End was a go-to back in the 2000s, but my body type has changed enough that they just aren't right. I'll even buy a top from one brand and a bottom from another if the fit is right.
  21. Sometimes I'll check my Cotopaxi Allpa because I do't feel like doing the "put your bag in the overhead scrum" on the plane. My bag definitely stands out on the carousel! One thing I added to the bag was a carry strap, it makes it the perfect 3-way carry bag. Oh - the bag comes with a rain cover I can put around the bag if needed. But, again, to each his own...
  22. Sounds like you had an Allpa zipper fail... If the zipper fails and the bag opens, nothing falls out because it is contained in the internal zippered compartments. Same with zippers on any other luggage. That said, it wouldn't be a big deal to go a store and get 2 straps to put around a bag. Not a game ender. I will say in my years with my Osprey, Eagle Creek, eBags and now my Cotopaxi bags, I haven't had a zipper failure. Maybe I'm just lucky,
  23. I'm not sure what you are talking about. Straps?? The Allpa has zipper compartments inside, to keep things compressed. The external zipper has always been easy to zip for me.
