The most important part is a place to physically berth the ship.

A renovated terminal will no doubt make for a more comfortable experience, but as long as there is physically a place to load and unload the ship, process people through customs, the terminal is just an accessory.

Spending on the nature of the renovations, the embarkation and debarkation processes may evolve from sailing to sailing.

When I sailed out of Norfolk in June of 2002 on the Triumph there was no cruise terminal. Security screening was done on the pier. Once I boarded the ship, I was directed to go the main show lounge to be checked in.

I need help regarding a cruise we took with Carnival in July 1999 on the imagination. I want to say we left 7/10 (Saturday) and came back 7/17 (Saturday). I know it was a long time ago. I was trying to find the itinerary for this cruise. Can anybody help?  I know it’s a lot to ask.

Are you sure about the cruise date and length? The Imagination was sailing out of Miami. There was a 5-night sailing that left on July 12 that went to Calica / Cancun and Grand Cayman. The next sailing was a 5-night that left on July 17 that went to Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman.

Unless the account is set up like mine with Edward Jones, any dividends are reinvested.

Even if the dividends are reinvested, you will still receive a 1099-DIV if they are held in a nonretirement account.

  4. If the shares were purchased before the middle of December of 2019, you would have received a dividend check in January 2020. As a result of receiving the dividend check you would have been mailed a form 1099-DIV in January 2021 with the information to put on your 2020 federal tax return. The 1099-DIV should have the name of who the shares are held by and the account number.

Chip1, thank you so much. This is great info. Where did you find this itinerary? I've spent about 3 hours searching with no success.

Just one note for anyone who might search for this itinerary in the future, as I recall, the Playa del Carmen port was replaced with Grand Cayman due to a medical emergency on ship that required altering course and increasing speed to meet a medical helicopter for transfer of the passenger.

    Again, thank you so much!

    EdV.

I have most (if not all) of Carnival's brochures from 1994 through 2008 - when they stopped printing them.

Sorry for the misleading thread title. I am looking for the old itineraries for the following cruises, I was able to find my other past cruises vi a SHIPMATE app and google searches, but these 3 are no where to be found.   Most likely Cozumel, Costa Maya and Belize, however I'm pretty sure I would have booked the same stops 3 cruises in a row.

4/5/10 (5day)       CARNIVAL FANTASY         Western Caribbean

8/29/09 (5day)     CARNIVAL HOLIDAY         Western Caribbean

8/18/07 (5day)     CARNIVAL HOLIDAY         Western Caribbean

The August 18,2007 sailing was a Saturday sailing. The itinerary was:

    Mobile - depart 4:00 P.M.

    At sea

    Costa Maya 12:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

    Cozumel 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

    At sea

    Mobile - arrive 8:00 A.M.

  8. > Carnival Corp has fewer ships post-Covid but there are the same or more cruise ports. Princess sails from Fort Lauderdale. Carnival sails from Miami. Almost a suburb. No need for Carnival Brands to compete against each other.

If Carnival brands shouldn't compete against each other then why did then for so long in Port Everglades (seasonally at least 15 years) - with some years competing with HAL, PCL, and Costa

Some years instead of Costa sailing out of Port Everglades they would sail out of Miami competing with Carnival.

How come Carnival brands continue to compete against each other in Alaska? Last time I checked Carnival Cruise Line, HAL, and PCL all sail out Seattle. When Carnival first started doing Alaska they competed against HAL, and PCL out of Vancouver - sometimes roundtrip and sometimes 1 way Vancouver to Seward (Anchorage) and reverse.

RCL is the first to abandon ports. They try to compete in New Orleans periodically and are always the first to pull out.

On New Orleans, Carnival isn't the only game in town as NCL is there seasonally and Disney will put a ship there later this year so that will be four. Of course New Orleans can handle more ships.

Carnival Cruise Line is the worldwide leader in abandoning ports. Ports that Carnival has abandoned include:

    1)      San Diego – The Spirit used to spend the winter doing 8-day cruises out of San Diego. At one point the Elation used to do 4- and 5-day cruises year-round. Carnival then left and was supposed to send the Miracle to do cruises in the winter that has never happened.

    2)      Mobile – After sailing from the port for maybe 8 to 10 years they left. They then came back before leaving again last fall. By the time they return this fall it will be around 1 year since there last sailing in Mobile.

    3)      Port Everglades – Before Covid they had a ship homeported at least during the winter. During cruising shut down they left and to the best of my knowledge they have not announced any plans to return.

    4)      Norfolk – The year that either the Vista or Horizon entered service there were no sailings. After this year’s sailings on the Magic there are no plans to return until May(?) 2025 when the Sunshine is homeported there.

    5)      San Juan - heading into Covid they had a ship homeported In San Juan. To the best of my knowledge there are no plans to return. When Carnival has had a ship in San Juan, they have done dual homeporting for the sailings by allowing people to begin and end their cruise in Barbados. Given that Carnival no longer sails from San Juan it means they have also abandoned Barbados as a homeport.

It certainly would be nice if they had an A route and a B route.  I had long argued for that same thing out San Juan.  There must be a reason they don't.  Perhaps something like 'deals' with the various ports or something.

Carnival used to do alternating itineraries out of San Juan. From November 7,1999 through September 10,2000, they were done on the Inspiration and from September 17,2000 through at least the end of 2002 on the Destiny. The itineraries were:

Dutch Treat - that went to St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Curacao and Aruba.

European Delight - that went to St. Thomas, Antigua, Guadeloupe and Aruba.

I don't suppose anyone has a list of Carnival sailings out of port of Los Angeles from Feb. 2002?

We're trying to figure out a past cruise that my folks would have taken. I tried googling but was overwhelmed by the hits.

Any suggestions or pointers on resources for this type of info?  TIA!

The Ecstasy was doing 3- and 4-day sailings. The 3-day cruises left on February 1, 8, 15, and 22 and went to Ensenada.

The 4 -day cruises left on February 4, 11, 18, and 25 and went to Catalina Island and Ensenada.

The Elation was doing 7-day sailings that left on February 3, 10, 17, and 24 and went to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas.

The wording of any year would include near the top the program terms and conditions includes the program is subject to change with or with notice.

There are always some people switching tables on any given cruise. Did you ask the maitre d' to move you to a larger table?

    As for wording in 2012

Platinum (75 to 199 cruise days): Benefits include priority embarkation, debarkation, tender service, and dining times (including main dining room and specialty restaurants, if applicable), an enhanced logo gift item, along with a ship- and year-    specific pin each voyage that will be redesigned annually, a dedicated phone number and concierge desk on board, complimentary wash and fold laundry service, casino buy-one-get-one tournament entry, complimentary arcade $5 play for guests under   18, as well as all of the benefits of the Red and Gold level memberships.

I did ask to be moved to a different table, but they did not move me to another table.

From 2012, seriously?  The current benefit is worded "Guaranteed seating time requested in Main Dining Room for dinner only" and "Priority reservations at Specialty restaurants."

As a Platinum (under the old program) and Diamond (under the new program) I've never not gotten my first choice of dining times (usually YTD), even when it was waitlisted or full.

What do you mean that you weren't able to get "guaranteed dining reservations"?  We're you trying to reserve a specific time for YTD or trying to reserve a seating (early, late, or YTD)?

I don't check Carnival's web site for the current wording as I haven't sailed with them for a long time. When the current program was announced in 2012 it said, "guaranteed reservations" and not mealtime. That same wording was used in the prior program when Platinum was the highest level. Guaranteed reservations should mean both mealtime and table size. I would request Late seating at a table for 8 - which should be an indication that I wanted tablemates. Most of the sailings when I should l have received guaranteed dining reservations, I was assigned either a table for 2 or a table / booth for 4 without tablemates.

  14. 11 hours ago, BlerkOne said:

I have never heard of late seating being full. It should be trivial to switch.

During embarkation day dinner I talked to either the Maitre'd or assistant Maitre'd snd was told they would work on it - than nothing. Neither one ever came to the table to let us know about the new dining reservation, no letter / business card left in the cabin and no phone call.

I believe adding a 'spend' component is reasonable, possibly measured by S&S expenditure or your proposed cabin bonus system, but probably not both.  That said, your curve is much too steep in my opinion. Perhaps 1-1.5x from Inside to Balc; 2x for Suites.

I also think they need to further elevate and enhance benefits for the highest levels. Some would be zero cost to Carnival such as Guaranteed Table for 2 at Fixed Dining for Diamonds, for example.  Some would be optional items that have a modest up-charge. Princess does a free wine tasting for their highest tier while other pax are charged. Free once a cruise secondary up-charge restaurant (think Cucina) might be a solution. Also, there has to be some inter-CCL line points crossover.  Not full matching mind you but something other than Blue Card status if one is at least Platinum status on Carnival. It encourages corporate loyalty.

According to Diamond perk list I have from 2012 Diamond members are supposed to get guaranteed reservations for the main dining room. Under the previous program where Platinum was the top tier, they were supposed to get guaranteed dining reservations. Based upon my experience the guaranteed dining reservation perk is very rarely done. In the 10 sailings where I was supposed to get guaranteed dining reservations, I only received it once.

He's 28 years old, and as far as we know, single. Why would he have a life insurance policy ?

    (sincere question)

It is not that uncommon to have a life insurance policy even if you are single. My parents got me a policy when I was a minor. When I turned 21 it was converted to an adult policy. Even though I am 50+ years old and single I still have the policy.

You’re forgetting that Carnival sells artificial fun and appointed a basketball player as their Chief Fun Officer.

If you can’t have fun while on Carnival, well...

I am not sure what type of shape their Chief Fun Officer is in based upon him being put through two tables on last Wednesday's airing of AEW pro wrestling.

Did anyone else catch that Colleen McDaniel, Editor-in-Chief of Cruise Critic, wrote that the Sunshine was formerly the Carnival Conquest? 😬

"Carnival Radiance will be the third ship Carnival has completely revamped -- and renamed -- joining Carnival Sunshine (formerly Carnival Conquest) and Carnival Sunrise (Carnival Triumph)."

I noticed it the day the news story was posted. Under the story there was a feedback link which I clicked on and left a message that the story was wrong about the Carnival Sunshine having previously been the Carnival Conquest when it is the former Carnival Destiny.

  19. I think "bump" makes an implication that they will not contact you about making the change. My experience is quite different from "bumping". They will call you about doing that and probably make you some kind of reasonable upgrade offer.

You have had a lot different experience than I have had. On 2 of my sailings Carnival bumped myself and my mom from the cabin that we had booked - both times the cabin that we booked was listed as a double occupancy (non PC) cabin.

For the cruise in 2009 neither the travel agent or us were ever contacted to see if we would give up our cabin and we found out about the cabin change while being checked in at the VIP lounge in Port Everglades.

The other cruise was in 2010 which I had booked through the Carnival web site. We were never contacted to see if we would be willing to give up our cabin and we found out about the change while being checked in at the VIP lounge at the Port of Miami.

  20. According to my 2004 -2005 brochure the Fantasy was sailing out of Port Canaveral doing 3 and 4 day sailings. The 4 day itinerary was:

Sunday Port Canaveral depart 4:30 P.M.

    Monday Freeport arrive 8:00 A.M depart 4:00 P.M.

    Tuesday Nassau arrive 7:00 A.M.

Wednesday Nassau / sea day depart 7:00 A.M.

Thursday Port Canaveral arrive 7:00 A.M.

It appears you sailed on May 29th.
