  1. But I know Key Weird well, spent many nights on the Duval side walk, when I was younger LOL. The Key West is a great place, but over the years has lost much of its originality to tourism. Tourism is highest from Friday to Sunday. Monday brings peace and normalcy to the Island. I can understand if a ship the size of the Oasis, came in on a weekend, it would over load all infrastructure, traffic would most likely be at a stand still, yes even with say just, 2000 more cruisers over the smaller ships, it would be so crowded it might not be fun. Yes, making money is important to the shops but so is the laid back atmosphere.

  2. Just off the phone with BOA, making a travel notification. I ask if he knew anything about the switch, he seemed to know a little, but no exciting info was passed to me. But I did learn, that FIA is an affiliate of BOA, so if we could get a 8th grade reading level of the exact changes it would be nice. If this has already been done, sorry, I got tired of reading all the post.

I hate to all see the apparent changes, and I would dump the card and use all points quickly and I have a bunch and have fortunately used a bunch.

  3. by winning a painting not a painting but a print and never again, not that the deal was bad, but I could have done much better the frame which we orderd was over $400, still not too bad, but the first one had some dents in the frame.I called and no problem, we will send you another one, ME, do you want to send the original back, ART COMPANY, no, just give it away, shows how truly valuable it was. There may very well be some good and reasonable priced art on a cruise ship, but but, they will be expensive, like they should be. Unless you really have to have a well known artist's painting/ print, shop local, and there are many many good artists, who produce some great original art.

PS, the art auctioneer, if he is really good will provide a wealth of history that is connected with the art he is selling/auctioning.

  4. Can someone clarify something for me? In the past, if you selected MTD you had to prepay gratuities. Now that they're imposing automatic gratuities, are people not going to have to prepay if they choose MTD?

I agree, with the new tipping policy. I was told once by someone in the know, that as many as maybe 50% do not leave a tip or very little tip on the Monarch cruises.

My first though, what happens to MTD, I love it, so how about some speculation on what will happen to MTD?

I guess that it will be another pay for option.

  5. By the way, taking liquor onboard is against the rules. If you can't live by the rules then you should cruise on another cruiseline. This Royal Caribbean board does not care for those who purposely break the rules.

WOW, you must not have been on this site very long, in case you are interested just search for rum runners and other means of smuggling alcohol on board.

The CC members give RC good advice on new techniques on smuggling. LOL

  6. It is not that the art/copies area bad, and the framing is pretty good, but on one occasion, the art she bought, the frame was damaged in shipment. We called and sent pic of the damage, no problem, they just sent us another one. That just shows you how really worthless the copies are, you are really just paying for the Frame, and it is about the same price as having it done locally.

On our last cruise, the art auctioneer, did a great job of teaching a history lesson on the art, we/even I found the history, of the Italian art up for auction, during WWII interesting.

  7. I bought my wife a citizen watch, I check the price on the internet on the ship, and the watch onboard was cheaper, kinda hard to believe, but true. I always wanted a sub mariner from Rolex, but never liked the weight, but loved the look. Invicta had a their original Rolex mariner copy, on the ship and even the GMT master version, I think both were $139 best price on ship, Sams club has it for $109 and other online stores it varies in price from $79 to $90. Note, there are many versions of this Invicta watch, the ones with the Japanese movement are cheaper than the swiss ones by a $$$$$$. The swiss movement is basically the same as Rolex's movement. I asked one of the sales reps on board if it had the Swiss movement, and he said yes, came back on another day ask the same question to another sale rep, and he said the Japanese movement LOL

  8. "Sun rise, sun set, swiftly flow the days".

Just gorgeous pictures of the sunrises and sunsets. My favorite. I hope your days aren't flowing by too fast. Continued good weather and happy sailing. Really enjoying your "live" report. Thanks.......

Id'm glad some one else knows what the green flash is(from my boating and sailing days), I have mentioned this to many cruisers, and they look at me like I'm crazy. We have only seen it on two occasions, and maybe a small flash, but that is all in 50+ years on the water.

  9. Maybe the pinnacle members are just dying off, most I have met are much older and really paid the price for cruising, that is dollar wise.

But, as popular and price wise cruising vacations are now day, I would bet there will be a lot more Pinnacle member in a few years and will be a lot younger. We were introduced to a young girl on the Freedom, a while back, she was around 6 or maybe 8, she was already well passed D+, I guess, her family and grandparents, both sides take her cruising quite often, all live in Florida

  10. It usually does not rain all day down here unless it is a tropical storm event. So if the winds are the issue, as others have said, no tendering for safety.

Big problem, is if you are on the island and a rather strong storm approaches, it can be, well lots of fun, been there and done that. LOL

  11. And going this Sunday LOL, last minute thing, booked yesterday, WOW. We have not been on the Allure, or Oasis for a cruise, and may not, well that is up for grabs, but the Freedom is our Favorite, not toooooo big, and has lots of nice features that make cruising fun. Not to take any thing away from the Mariner or Navigator but the slight difference in size is wonderful.

  12. Please do not flame me, lots of great advice already, better researched than mine. I was diagnosed with type two, and since then un diagnosed ??????

Any way after I was diagnosed, weight loss was the first area to work on with metforen(sp) I started the low carb Atkins diet, lost mucho pounds, I did the diet almost by the book, I was montering the sugar daily, and it became so low at times, and was having issues with low readings. Anyway off the drug, still considered a diabetic, but after a few more years, a1c was normal etc. I was undiagnosed. I gain too much weight back but still OK.

The Atkins diet might be a good place to start, but follow the professionals advice, but remember everyone is different, or what works well for some may not work for you. You have to know or read your own body, professionals, only rely on tests and the averages from a large group to make decisions.

Eating on the ship has lots of low carb options, the main problem is volume control, on what ever you eat. Maybe I have gained some control over volume, on our last b2b 28 day adventure I lost one pound. I do believe the main dish portions in the MDR are for the most part, almost dietary correct.

  13. They have something that you cannot live with out and that does happen, and you are willing to take a chance. Other US stores like Sams Club and other Local Mom and Pop jewelers might be a better deal, but from DI you and most other people have no real idea on quality at the moment of purchase. so my advice is RUN Forest RUN.

  14. In would be ticked off as well.. He had a great seat by the pool, got up, dresses, went to play a game.. He did his part, the cruise line did not. It was bad form on their part.

Maybe more and more people are skipping BINGO.. For a reason.

I do not know or not if RC post the minimum number for activities that are cash prized, but they should up front and big, not print that you have to have a magnifying glass to read. I might have not been as mad as the OP but that is just me, but would have been upset, and maybe even written a private note to RC's complaint department where every that is, probably file 13.

  15. That was the title of an Article, probably not tooo well written, I submitted to them just for fun to post on there web site as I thought it was positive. Anyway on a TA on the Navigator after leaving Bermuda, the ship stopped for a while, and then went on. After we arrived in Lisbon, and we did our shore stuff, at 5 PM the boat just goes out into the harbor and anchors, to make it short, the Portuguese Port authority or Government had seized the ship, I guess claiming it had was unsafe to cruise on. Any way the front left stabilizer would not retract, they worked on it for, I forget maybe two days, had people from every where looking at it. Here we were in Lisbon, could not go ashore for some reason and had to listen to the awful Caribbean island music for toooo long LOL. Any on the following day what ever it was, we headed our the river, we though we were making a run for it LOL, but we went down stream, and headed inland and anchored a large boat or two, came out and a crew of people actually cut the stabilizer off the ship. Anyway we headed on towards Barcelona and missed all the other ports. RC gave much shipboard credit etc and other things but many people were very upset because it ruined there vacation, but stuff happens no matter what, and RC did try in what I think a good way to make it up to the people. We were ok, and used the TA mainly just to travel across, we like TA's and then we had a week in Barcelona.
