I suppose the round trip might give me more opportunity to see the northern lights...might being the key word here. I think I will opt for a December trip. After christmas.

Thanks all for the input. Appears consensus is go for the round trip, and pic the ships that suits my schedule! It's unfortunate it's so expensive as a single in the summer, as I think I would have preferred that, but to pay nearly 4000 more seems senseless!

I did a three week med cruise on Hal which was wonderful. When I worked, I always wanted to do a TA cruise, and just relax, but now that I'm retired, it doesn't appeal to me as much. Three weeks is about the most I can do, as I have 3 dogs at home. Big boarding expenses. I did a two week South American cruise, sailing around Cape Horn. It was great. I would love to do an amazon cruise on day. I visited china last year, not cruising, but I was not all that thrilled. I couldn't take the heat and humidity. So my desire to cruise there is a bit diminished. I think Australlia and New Zealand sounds wonderful!

I'm 60, do most of my vacationing solo. I'm thinking a norwegian coastal cruise for 2015... Yes, I like to plan ahead.. Lol. I can go hurtigruten for a winter cruise (summer rates are too high) or HAL on either the Prinsendam or on one of their larger ships in the summer. I am a very causal person, have no desire to dress up. I am well traveled, but prefer not to play the "how many cruises have you been on" game, if you know what I mean. I prefer to be with nice, down to earth people. I've been on several HAL ships, which were fine... Not sure if Prinsendam might be too formal or snobby...any thoughts on this? Hurtigruten or HAL???

Perhaps lively was not the right word...I meant which ships might have the most guests during off season. I would like to have fellow passengers to chat with...from time to time...

Okay, So I think I want to do a hurtigruten norwegian coastal cruise in the off season... Early December. As I will be traveling solo, I'm wondering which ship I should choose. I know the passengers are fewer during the winter months, so I'd like to be on the most lively. Are the newer vessels preferable. Reading the reviews, I'm surprised how many folks choose the older ones. Also looking for some pros and cons for the round trip as opposed to the one way.
Thanks again for all the input!!!

I am leaning towards a winter sailing as the prices are so much better for a single. With so few people on board, will it be too boring?

Border reiver, thanks for the input. Who did u use for your previous cruise? How did you like them? Please be sure to post a review when you complete your cruise.

Hi, I'm thinking of doing a Hurtigruten Norwegian round trip coastal cruise for 2015. Just not sure whether to do a midnight sun or northern lights. I would love to see the northern lights but I understand there is no guarantee. And it is dark all the time. I am a 60 year old woman traveling solo. Any input on this will be much appreciated.

Help! Next year, I'd like to take a cruise up the coast of Norway. Holland America has a nice itenerary, but I'm also considering Hurtigruten. I'm a healthy sixty year old woman who will be traveling solo. I've been on HAL before, so I know what to expect, but there are mixed reviews on Hurtigruten. Looking for opinions... Thanks
