  1. Just talked to my Carnival PVP which I've never used before. I told him I found the same rate on a cruise through Expedia but Expedia will throw in $50 in OBC. I asked if he could match that and I would book through him. He said he couldn't, but that I could "initiate the booking" directly through Carnival with him, and that he would send me a booking number where I could "complete the booking through Expedia" and still get the OBC deal. I have booked dozens of cruises but have NEVER heard of this. Is this true? Is this legit? Anybody have experience doing something like this? I'd appreciate some advice / help here because I want to book today for the special one-day sale.

  2. I think it's fun when I get paired at a table with passengers who make it a personal challenge to see how much they can eat, thought I've never seen anybody eat 4 melting cakes (though my aunt could probably do it as much as she loves sweets).

I always order several things too, the menus sometimes look so good that it's hard to decide so I'll get both. I especially like to do this on lobster night because it's fun to make my own "surf and turf" by ordering the steak entree with a lobster tail on the side. Perfect! And I almost always get my dessert a la mode and ask for a nice big scoop of ice cream on top.

It also amazes me how many fellow passengers don't know that you can indeed order as much as you want in the dining room. So yes, you can order all you want. I think it's a great way to try out new or unusual dishes too.

  3. Take it from me, if you take soda onboard CARRY IT ON and DO NOT pack it in your luggage!

Several years ago my husband and I were running late to the port and we had a 12 pack of Coke Zero (our cruise line only had Pepsi onboard and that's not our drink of choice). Well, the bottom fell out of the box in the parking lot so in a tizzy, we shoved as many cans as we could in our carry on and put three cans in my checked bag.

Well, I learned this lesson the hardest way possible -- yep, all 3 cans exploded inside my bag, turning EVERYTHING into a big, wet, sticky, smelly mess! My cocktail dress, my swimsuit, underwear, EVERYTHING was covered. Luckily I had put one extra outfit in my carryon bag. I had to send everything to the ship's laundry and let me tell you, that was one expensive mistake.

The heck of it is that we weren't even trying to "sneak" anything forbidden on, it was just a careless mistake. We still take soda onboard but always as a carryon!

  4. I was on the Weezer cruise too -- it was a BLAST! I was traveling with my mom since my husband had to cancel on me at the last minute. I've cruised a lot before but this was my first themed cruise and, as a huge Weezer fan, it has totally spoiled me from any other cruise. All of the live music was just freaking amazing. I don't think I got more than a few hours of sleep the entire 3 days.

  5. Hi! I can't get a straight answer on this anywhere (even in these forums there are contradicting answers and the main customer service line at Carnival doesn't know) but are the cabin room doors on the Carnival Fascination metal / magnetic? I'm trying to plan decorations for an upcoming family cruise. If anybody has sailed on this ship recently, can you confirm? Thanks so much!

  7. Hi! We will be in Toulon this May on the Celebrity Solstice (port call from 7 am - 5 pm on a Tuesday) and we have always wanted to see Cannes. I'm not sure if we are nuts to attempt to do this on our own considering our short port stay, but I've researched both rental cars (supposedly a 1 hour, 20 minute drive each way) and the local train (about the same amount of time, decent schedule departing around 8:15 am and returning around 2:45 pm).

Has anyone done this before and if so, what would you recommend -- a rental car or the train? I'm fully aware our time constraints will severely limit what we will get to see in Cannes, but I'm mostly concerned about the smartest mode of transport (and if this is too ambitious of a goal).

If you've rented a car, how difficult was it to navigate / park in the city? If you've taken the train, where does it drop you off in Cannes? Is it easy to reach from the Toulon port?

I would appreciate any comments or advice anyone can give me, and I'm looking forward to my first trip to Europe!

  8. Thank you so much for all of this information. My upcoming cruise will be my very first trip to Europe ever, and as a girl who grew up in a very small town, I have been really worrying about pickpocketing and petty crime. I feel like now I am prepared (I've made myself aware of the popular scams and I know what to watch out for). That Bob Arno video is great because you can actually SEE the thieves in action.

Now I know I will travel safe, keep my guard up, and will not carry anything I can't afford to lose when I'm out walking around the city and taking public transportation.

I did buy a small PacSafe day bag to take on long excursions (again, I'm not going to put anything of value in there, just maps and what-not) and a plain, fake wedding band (I'm leaving my jewelry at home). I also have a moneybelt as a back-up.

I also bought these crazy Stash It Ware pocket underwear (I figure I can keep my cash down there because, Lord knows, I will KNOW if somebody is reaching their hands down my underpants). If you haven't heard of them, check them out (just search for stash it ware). They have undies for men and women.
