  1. This is one of the silliest things I have read on this forum and that's saying a lot.

Totally agree. I enjoy having plenty of choices and have never objected to paying an additional fee for things I want. Most seem to think everything should be inclusive in their ultra low cruise fare. Now that would lead to no choice.

Unfortunately the beer selection is poor and at a push I will have a Blue Moon. Usually better on Europe sailings due to carrying more German and Belgian beers. Franziskaner I find nice.

  2. I always get a midship room. I find them more stable and everywhere is closer than a forward or aft base. I have only sailed on the older ships with 3 elevator banks plus the Epic. On Epic we had a stern balcony and found walking from one end of the ship to the other a pain. Since then my arthritic joints have become worse. For that reason we will not sail on Epic again and will not consider any of the new away ships or Escape.

  3. I don't have kids but have observed many couples with young children. The staff love them, many of them have their own kids who they don't get to see often. They will fuss all over your youngster. They adore them.

I saw a couple come into the buffet quite late one evening with a child around 1 year old in a stroller. They seemed to have an arrangement with the staff to get some food and a bottle heated up. We wondered what was happening as the staff all came rushing past our table. How we laughed when we saw it was because they all wanted to fuss with the baby, be the one to get the food warmed, get to play for a moment.

The crew will be very happy to help with anything baby related.

  4. We always allow NCL to do our laundry.

They have never lost anything of ours.

I am still finding NCL laundry tags in clothes today. In fact I am right now wearing a pair of trousers that has an NCL laundry tag inside them.

I cannot be bothered to do laundry when on holiday. I use the specials and now I'm Platinum I get a free bag.

  5. The first time we ate at Moderno (Epic 2011) we loved it. Since then we have eatne in Moderno on Jade, Star and Dawn.

Since our first time we have felt that we have just not enjoyed the meat at all. Each time it seemed like things had got a little worse than the previous time. The menu says meats are cooked medium rare. I certainly did not see anything medium rare on our last cruise on Dawn in January. Everything was just dry and cooked to a cinder. When we sailed on Dawn again in May we didn't go. It will take a lot to get me back again.

  6. If I am standing waiting you would look at me and see a healthy looking, slightly large, healthy person.

I am not but you cannot tell by looking. Having said that I believe that elevator and stair usage are purely the choice of the individual concerned and nobody else.

I do get annoyed when I see people rush to fill the elevator and thereby prevent people in wheelchairs, on scooters, with walkers from getting in.

  7. We are generally fans of the speciality restaurants. We only did Teppanyaki once and won't go there again and don't really enjoy the meats at Moderno as it is usually overcooked for my taste. Our next cruise is 15 nights and we have a UDP for all 15 nights. We love Le Bistro and Cagneys and will probably do La Cucina a few nights too for a change. I find plenty on the menu to make it not feel the same each time we go.

For hokies111 if you have a dining package you just go along and order whatever you want ignoring the pricing next to each item. Your bill at the end will be zeroed out.

  8. I would double check this. I sail NCL 5-6 times a year and have been told by many crew members that any tip charged to your account goes into a pool. The staff get the exact same pay every week unless handed cash. People often tip at upgraded restaurants and the servers dont even get it. My advice is to use cash or forget it. Im not interested in giving NCL any additional $ but have no problem giving crew tips.

Butlers and Concierges are not part of any tip pool. So what you wrote does not apply to them. On our Dawn cruise the concierge thanked me about 2 hours after I did it.

  9. Platinum does not get free laundry but gets one free bag special per cruise, sometimes per week on longer cruises.

I don't know why you saythe free service is not so much to write about.

Our free laundry, as Platinum members, has always returned shirts on hangars and they always look like they were pressed. This has been true for at least 8 bag specials we've gotten free as Platinum members on several long cruises.

This has also been our experience. On a 14 night cruise we each got a free bag on each week so 4 bags total. It came back next day, our steward left the small items in a basket on our bed and hung the items on the hangers in the closet including polo shirts, trousers and jeans. Hoping to get 4 bags between us on our 15 night South America cruise as it will be a huge help with our packing. If not we will be glad to pay up.

  10. I exchanged a bottle a couple of cruises ago. You can have North and South Red or North and South White. They are the NCL house wines and there may be someone, somewhere, who likes them. Better to take the advice of drowning the Sparkling in OJ. They would not exchange for anything else even when I offered to pay the price difference.

  11. I eat LCHF and have done for several years now. I generally cruise a couple of times a year.

When on a ship I don't find it too difficult to be honest. I avoid pasta, rice, potato and bread sticking to mainly meat or fish with vegetables. Eggs for breakfast with bacon and sometimes a tomato or some mushrooms. I avoid sweet things or things I think may be high in sugar content.

I feel very well and have lost, and continue to lose, weight. Better still my doctors (GP, Diabetic doc, lipids doc and cardiologist are all very happy with the blood results some of which are almost down to the levels of people who don't have type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol.

  12. They do have a great selection of beers onboard you know.

What and where? I have heard that the Escape has some decent brews but have never really found anything on other ships in the fleet that I would consider great. My husbands opinions are not for public viewing on the subject of beer on the ships he has been on.

  13. Yikes :( as a first time cruiser I sure wish I didn't open/read this thread :(

I have traveled alot over the years, been in many hotels and don't think ive come across bed bugs.

And hoping this isn't my first experience with bed bugs. Yikes

I have been on over 20 cruises with NCL and have never been bitten even by an insect on shore whilst on a cruise. That article makes it seem like ALL ships are ridden with bed bugs but reality is that they are very, very rare. I daresay it can happen but we aren't seeing folks on here week in week out complaining about it so stop worrying.

  14. But it is English; anyone from the UK would understand as would us colonials from the southern hemisphere!!

I am also from the UK as well as Steve and I had to read it 3 times and still don't get it. After a few moments thought I decided it may mean job done which is what a UK person from my area would say.
