  1. Wait. Deaths are a common occurrence on cruise ships?? I know it's bound to happen occasionally, because death happens everywhere, but just how "common" is it? yikes.

How many of you have been on a cruise where someone passed away? I don't think I ever have... and rumors travel fast, so I think I would have known. We always get wind of accidents/emergencies somehow.

I have been on 2 cruises where death occurred. Once was in Cozumel and they took the body off with the wife leaving the ship with other family members. This happened immediately after docking. The other was on a Southern Caribbean cruise and I don't remember what island we were on. It does happen; very sad though.

  2. We drove through Paolo’s home town.

He pulled over on the side of the road, left the van running and told us not go anywhere! Said he’d be right back…we watched him run into a shop and came out looking disappointed. Unfortunately it was still too early for his favorite pizza shop to have their pizza ready. He was taking his mission to get Alex the best authentic pizza in the region quite seriously! He promised he would not let him down!

Paolo stopped every so often to let us take pictures and once and awhile he’d stop at one of the pull offs for us to get out and view the beautiful scenery.

  3. I was sitting on my balcony with a glass of wine and my Nook when suddenly the balcony door opens and my boys walk out with a little white chocolate cake they had bought for me at the specialty coffee shop place – and they were singing happy birthday to me (my birthday was the next day, but it was now past midnight, so it was technically my birthday and they wanted to be the first to sing to me). They even substituted their own words for the 3rd line and sang “Happy birthday to the best mom in the world.” My boys and I are very close, but this really touched me and was one of the sweetest things they’ve done for me. It was a great day for me.

This brought tears to my eyes; such sweet boys and handsome as well. Congratulations

  4. Thanks. For your feedback. Just to be clear. The crib pictured is the one they provided right? Did you find that adequate? We don't have kids yet so I'm wondering why you still used your travel crib?

Regarding the booking I asked both our TA and a RCCL rep would we be able to keep our same room if we need to add a child and they said yes since it'll just be a crib set up. Of course provided that there is enough capacity for the boat, like for lifeboats. The RCCL rep went on to elaborate that they don't allow booking a cabin for 3 people if there is only 1 or 2 people on the reservation, especially this far out, so reservations with 3 or more people have access to those rooms.

We booked 10729 over 18 months before sailing on the Allure. There was only 2 on the booking from the beginning. We sailed with only 2 in the room. My daughter and her husband also booked 11729 for the same cruise. I know that my cabin (10729) could hold 3 passengers. I think that my daughters room also.

I was very concerned about the possibility of RCCL moving me based on what I had read on these boards. My travel agent got it in writing that I would not be moved if someone wanted the cabin with 3 people paying.

    I sailed in 10729 in October 2011 and 2012.

  5. I want to do a real LIVE thread like Radio does, and he does it SO well!.....but I don't want to disappoint anyone by only posting once a day :o My plan is to post as often as I can, but I will not be on my own laptop, I will be using RC online. I will try and answer questions as best I can, but if for some reason I don't answer your question, I will as soon as I return.....promise. Also, if you have any photo requests, please let me know. As well, I will have an opportunity on turnaround day to enter most cabins......

I will be cruising this time with my DH and our 16 yr old DD :)

Well, it's almost time to return to my favorite ship! We have sailed the AOS every year since 2006, with the exception of 2012 when we decided to try the Freedom for a b2b as my DH has never tried Freedom class, or the Western Caribbean. We had a great time, but we really missed our AOS. Almost the moment we debarked the FOS, we booked the AOS and our first Owner's Suite which will enjoy for both weeks!

We are sailing this Sunday February 17th and we are also onboard for the February 24th sailing. I am involved in both roll calls and am very much looking forward to meeting all my CC peeps in person!

    Our travel plans are:

The weather in Toronto tomorrow should be mild with some snow flurries mixed with rain - no issue for take off!

Departing Toronto on Air Canada tomorrow, February 14th at 8:15PM- flying to Miami with an arrival time of 11:30PM. We are overnight at the Marriott Miami Airport.

Departing Miami with AA on Friday February 15th at 11:40AM, arriving in San Juan at 3:15PM.

Checking into Marriott San Juan Resort & Stellaris Casino where we will enjoy an ocean front balcony room for 2 nights before we embark on the Adventure on Sunday :)

Beautiful photo; cruising from San Juan is my favorite cruise. Have never done a b2b, but would love to. Enjoy your cruise.

  6. Quote...but you are right there are far better ways to see Costa Rica!! We went on a jungle cruise in Torteguero and it was like the real "jungle cruise" we saw every kind of animal and birds. You've go to go back and do it that way to really see it!!

We did an all inclusive in Costa Rico a few years ago. It was an amazing adventure. We hired a tour guide that was at the resort where we stayed. Did white water rafting, zip line in the rain forest, Arenal Volcano tour and had a great time at the resort with its beautiful beaches. One of the beaches was black sand. Great country to visit; would like to go back again.

Victoria I live in Greenville and my daughter got her graduate degree at Clemson. I love reading your reviews and see all of your beautiful pictures. I especially like to see you and your sister in all of your lovely dresses. My daughter is like you, she enjoys dressing for dinner every night. Good luck on your trip to Italy!!!!

  7. Gambee,

Again you have impressed me so much. I was on the Allure on the October 21 cruise. When we were in Cozumel, we did the Amazing Cozumel Race. Seeing your photographs of downtown reminded me so much of our race. We had a lot of clues at the locations in your pictures. We had so much fun doing the Amazing Race. The locals were so helpful and made it so much more fun. They really get into it. I love Cozumel, also. My cousin, my nephew and his partner had an amazing time. We all agree to go back and stay in one of the all inclusives. Maybe next year. Thanks again for your wonderful review.

  8. I am so excited that you are finally doing the b2b. I had read some time ago that you were doing this; but, couldn't remember the date. I have already subscribed and can't wait to follow along. I will be on my 2nd Allure cruise during your 2nd leg and will have to catch up when I get back. Thanks so much for doing the live threads; yours is always so informative. Have a great cruise.

BTW can't wait to see new pictures of you since your last cruise. Are you still on the South Beach diet?
