  1. Oh please this thread is becoming inappropriate trial by media.

An expert not a broken tap or faucet (ex spurt) has given us facts.

It makes no difference what you all think a properly constituted investigation with access to ALL the facts will be conducted.

I suggest the host locks this thread and for those so paranoid about finding who to blame I hope you've never made a mistake in your lives or got away with a very risky decision.

Couldn't agree with you more. Armchair critics, don't you just love them!

  2. What you are requesting would most likely mean they would reduce the culinary scope of Luminae. What's wrong with offering both the adventuresome Luminae items plus the more mundane MDR menu? This way both the adventuresome and the "meat and potatoes" crowd can have what they want. The only ones being left out now are those who (for reasons I can't figure out) refuse to make use of the latitude that Luminae was always designed in incorporate.

What a condescending post. I do not consider myself a "meat and potatoes " crowd, however I eat in the mdr due to the fact our budget only goes to a 1A.

  3. Before I booked my cruise northbound from Vancouver, I compared the cruises from Seattle. I found two things, much time was wasted just getting to Alaska, second the ports and route of the cruise was superior on those from Vancouver. The worst itineraries are the Seattle to Seattle cruises.

I wanted to see Glacier Bay as well, and I will see it on my cruise.

Have to respectfully disagree with this post. We did a 14 night Seattle to Seattle on HAL which had 8 different stops, 7 of which were in Alaska. To be fair though, there are very few cruises that do 14 nights without duplicating some Ports.

  4. On our sailings out of Southampton, almost all men, Brits or not, wore Tuxes. The British cruise lines on formal nights require Tuxes or suits with ties. I would imagine even with the evening chic relaxation that the majority of Brits will still be wearing Tuxes or suits. We will find out in 2 weeks when we board Eclipse from Southampton.

We're on the Eclipse in July going to the Baltic. I will be wearing my Tux on both Evening Chic nights. I hope you report back after your cruise with your observations.

  5. Have been to Naples several times, both on land based holidays in Sorrento and on Cruise stops. I read somewhere years ago that the drive from Sorrento to Amalfi via Positano is reckoned to be the 2nd best scenic drive in Europe. It is not for the faint hearted and as others have stated not that suitable for large coaches.

With regards Genoa my choice would be to do the Positano excursion.

  6. I am Belgian, live 30 minutes from Brussels and have many friends there. What happened this morning is terrible...

Please don't let this scare you and keep visiting our wonderful little country. You don't want to miss our beer, fries and chocolate :)

You also forgot the wonderful Jenever Bars in Ghent and Antwerp that my Wife and I love. We will be in Zeebrugge in July on the Eclipse and have no hesitation returning to Bruges.

  7. CaTamaran not caramaran typo cant change lol!

Hi - we have booked the 8.30am excursion on Tracey Arm Fjord/Juneau Alaska, Five hours - its the morning of our anniversary - (20 years hence the trip - we do something off the bucket list every five years and Alaska takes care of one of them :) )

    Have you done this tour?

End of May - cold yes? Wrap up?

Was there food/drinks on board? what was available?

What time were you back on board the ship at?

We have Murano booked for dinner that night - cant really find a tour that works for us that afternoon so planning to DIY explore Juneau -

    any "don't miss"?

My husband has vertigo -will not do small planes or helicopters

We did look at the Salmon Bake but its at 5pm earliest and we prefer to do a nice dinner that night.

Anything else we might have missed that would fit between the Catamaran - give us time to get lunch on the ship - and then be back on the ship for 5pm?

    Many thanks!

PS - We cannot wait - Seattle x 3 nights - and then Alaska - we can do the Med and Europe any old day - USA to us is so exciting!!!We have Seattle planned - thanks to lots of info on here :)

    Hi

We've been to Alaska a couple of times and in Juneau you must visit The Red Dog Saloon. It's very close to where the ships dock, very touristy but great for a beer. We also went on a whale watching tour in Juneau with Harv and

Marv. Can't recommend them highly enough.

In Seattle we also went on a food tour of Pikes Place Market with Seattle Food Tours which was great fun.

  8. Good morning,

Can anyone help me decide whether to go Deck 7 port or Deck 10 starboard for an August Norwegian Fjords cruise on Eclipse? Both cabins are near the forward elevators.

I know that aft balconies would probably be great but I'm limited to accessible cabins and both the 2B on Deck 7 Port and the C3 on Deck 10 Starboard are accessible (and affordable! ;))

I just wondered if one side or the other might have better views in the Fjords.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

My wife and I have done the Fjords 3 times and either side is fine. However if you are going as far north as the North Cape, then a starboard cabin would be more preferable.

  9. I suspect that as time goes on the only ones wearing formal attire will be those who don't know about the change. My inclination is that even a dark suit may be overkill, but that may down to the fact that I have a suit on days a week. If nothing else your husband would probably be in the smartest of those on board in a suit.

I would normally take my kilt etc on every cruise but I am going to save on the 10lbs plus that carrying that entails. Unfortunately I have already pre-booked and paid for the extra cases on our flights although I am sure my wife will make a valiant effort at filling them.

I took a couple of jackets last cruise and I may add another to compensate by i would often wear one of those on non formal evenings.

Although I tend to agree with you, I think it will come down to where the cruise is operating. My Wife and I are on the Eclipse in July for a 14 night Baltic Cruise from Southampton. Since there will be a lot more British on board in contrast to a Caribbean cruise, I think the take up of formal wear will be greater.

  10. Modern Luxury does not seem like an appropriate theme for Celebrity at this time. Good cruise value but not luxury.

I totally agree. When we first started cruising with Celebrity in 2005 (Century) we thought it was a cut above our previous cruises on Princess, NCL and Costa. Although I know we will enjoy our Baltic Cruise in July on the Eclipse, I don't feel that Celebrity nowadays are anything other than a mainstream Cruiseline.

  11. We boarded the Equinox the same day as OP. I believe we arrived at Port around 11am. We waited in line about an hour. It was slow according to people around us. We were concierge level with some sort of expedited or priority embarkation but line didn't divide until through security. I never once thought it was Celebrity fault or workers in port. Part of issue is people acting like the hAve not been through security before, not having ID ready, dragging full size suitcases which should have been left on dock through, carrying chairs and other things through, etc.

Celebrity profusely apologized. Muster drill took a long time because of delay getting passengers on. We witnessed several rude people yelling at bartender because he wouldn't serve them. This was after he was informed to close bar because of drill.

Debarkation was smooth on the 11th. If you follow directions and procedures. We knew to line up early, by informing ourselves ahead of time and asking where to line up at guest relations. This was our first cruise in 23 years, it was fantastic.

We witnessed people yelling at guest relations for things they had no control over, being rude and saving chairs for hours on end, treating staff like they were lower class etc.

Heard there was a fight over a table at the buffet one afternoon.

Think informing yourself, being prepared and kind goes a long way.

Disgraceful behaviour. Maybe this is what Celebrity mean when they say Modern Luxury.

  12. Dress choice no longer necessary... Celebrity is now the all kilt cruise line. Yes, 24 hours a day everyone is wearing kilts. It's a Scottish thing.

Being Scottish, I haven't a clue what you are on about.

  13. I think it is up to each and every one of us as consumers to decide what's "fair" and act accordingly. If as a consumer of a cruise product I decide the price to be fair, who are you to tell me I'm wrong ? My money, my decision. No one is telling any prospective Celebrity customer they have to buy the product. Celebrity is saying, "Here's the Price, Here's the Product, either buy it or not".

Celebrity is not a social agency, cruises are not a right or an entitlement, they are a product, the price of which for this discussion is set by Celebrity. If I don't like the price, if I don't like the included perks (or gimmicks) if I don't like the product, I'm free to not buy.

For Celebrity to not maximize revenue represents an unfairness to the shareholders.

To me fairness is a two way street.

    Couldn't agree more.

  14. I mean here is an example:

    12 Night Baltic/Russia cruise in a SV cabin July 2017 = $625 per night.

This is crazy. Ok its a good itinerary but $625 per night...........!!!!:(

We are only in a 1A Verandah cabin, however for our 14 night Baltic cruise in July 2016 we are paying $185 pppn which includes pre-paid gratuities, 14 nights parking at Southampton and Classic drinks package. I am happy with that and the upgrade to Premium Drinks is to us a no- brainier.

  15. I think Celebrity made a mistake when choosing the names for their tiers in Captains Club, especially the use of Elite. Maybe there is a different meaning in the U.S. but in my UK dictionary the definition is: "A select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society" Since when has having the available time and money to spend many days cruising made anyone superior?

After that it must have been really difficult to think of a name for the higher tier.

I think that when, or if I reach those heady heights I may be too embarrassed to shout about it. I will certainly enjoy my time getting there though. :)

A valid point. An unfortunate classification methinks.

  16. I think it is a little rude to suggest the OP,s question is pointless and as a host I am disappointed you had to stoop to this level. Just because you don't agree with someone,s point of view, it does not make it pointless. Having different opinions opens up discussions which some of us like to read - it's not what you say but how you say it!!

    I totally agree.

  17. we are due on 2 celebrity cruises this year. my husband son and son in law being Scottish all have highland dress which they only get to wear for formal nights on cruises and weddings. It looks like these very expensive outfits are going to be packed away and hardly ever worn which seems a great shame.

It was always such a special atmosphere on formal night.

I can understand that people have more luggage restrictions these days but we always managed with just one case each even with the formals.

we are not "stuffys" as someone suggested but just people that enjoyed a special night but we will accept the changes and enjoy our cruising although none of our men would consider any form of jeans as evening chic!

    Irene

As a proud Scotsman, I would tell them to continue to wear Highland Dress on the Elegant Chic nights. There is nothing smarter on a man, however I do know to my cost that if flying, it certainly eats into your luggage allowance. Not an issue if you're sailing from Southampton though as we are in July.
