  1. My next cruise in the Aft Haven includes drinks, specialty restaurants, tips and $300 OBC for less than the cost of the cruise we just left on the Breakaway. I've cruised the "upper crust" lines and do not care for the atmosphere on board these ships.

  2. Just left the Breakaway last Sunday. We sailed the Breakaway last year in the same cabin.NOTHING has changed. None of the changes affected us. We are booked on the Breakaway for May 2016. We sail in a Haven Aft Suite. We've sailed all the lines and NO ONE does suites like NCL. Go read the boards of the lines you are planning to switch...you will find the same complaints. The grass is not always greener on the other side.
Our next cruise is with Princess ONLY because of the itinerary!
  3. Dont do it, run away its a big scam.

They take your money, pamper you for a week and then set you back free in the world.

So what am i supposed to do now, stay in a regular cabin.

Its like crack, one hit and your an addict for life.

But it is so so awesome, could not imagine going back to a regular cabin now, I would rather cruise less and do it in the Haven.

    So frickin good

Couldn't have said it better! We sailed with 10 first time Haven cruisers last week...they are all hooked! BTW I wouldn't sail on an upscale cruiseline with only 300 passengers...because I'd either die of boredom or sea sickness.

  4. If any one try to view my pictures, the first one will be my contact info. I have lost 2 cameras in my life. One I left it accidentally on top of my car and it end up in the avenue. Hours later I got a call from a guy telling that the camera was broken ( I even got it back) but he inserted the me it card in his computer and saw my info picture. In another occasion my mom left the camera, case , and lenses on top of a table at a park. I got a call minutes laters telling me that he was still at the park willing to give r the camera back

Yes, there are dishonest people but sometimes an honest person doesn't know how to give it back to his owner when he doesn't know where to call

I'm hoping since they have my drivers license that they will mail it back along with the cc!

  5. Hurricane off Greenland on the Grand Princess. We were surrounded by ice bergs. The storm lasted 24 hours. Captain had to do sharp right turn to escape. Everything on the ship had to be secured and everyone had to remain in their cabins. Many people were injured. I'm prone to sea sickness but wasn't bothered. I was afraid of falling so stayed in my cabin.

  6. I had something similar happen leaving the Breakaway last Sunday. To make things easier for debarkation I used a card wallet for key card, drivers license and a few cc. I put my key card in the machine and binged out. I put the key card back in the card wallet and dropped it in an outside pocket of my purse. Took out my phone and texted the driver that we were on our way. Put the phone away and reached for the card wallet to transfer to inside of my purse. It was gone! I contacted security and retraced my steps. It was gone. I'm hoping someone picked it up and will mail it back to me. I will never again walk and text at the same time! I need to pay attention at all times. I had all the cards cancelled by the time the driver arrived at the port. The big problem was the drivers license but have solved that problem.

  7. I keep checking prices until the ship sails. In 2008 I spotted a flash sale about midnight two weeks out from our cruise. Sent TA email and we upgraded from a balcony to the Royal Suite for $750! This was a 14 day cruise on Celebrity, but all cruise lines work the same way. A few years ago we upgraded from a Grand Suite to the Owners suite and got $2000 of the fare refunded. Total cost of the cruise was $700 pp for the owners suite on RCL.

My advice is to check prices a few times a day after final payment...especially late at night.

  8. Make your reservations asap. You can't just walk up to the restaurant at 7:30 and be expected to be seated. Every restaurant was sold out Thursday through Saturday even Ocean Blue. I would leave nothing to chance. We ate in the Haven Thursday-Saturday...great food so not a problem. Our original plan was to eat in the Garden Cafe one night...went to breakfast there and couldn't get out fast enough. It is just like any other ship's buffet. We enjoyed the specialty restaurants as we don't like the food in the MDR of any ship including the upscale lines.

  9. This is us as well. We have no desire to have to follow a dress code more stringent than NCL's or deal with formal nights. I know some people love dressing up for dinner, but my husband has no desire to even think about bringing a tie on vacation (he wears one to work daily). NCL's casual vibe works well for us.

We sail the Breakaway for the Haven. We're done with the formal wear. We just sailed with 10 of our cruising friends...all suite people...everyone loved the Haven and said nothing compares to the experience! My TA told us we wouldn't be comfortable on the "upper Crust" ships because the cabins are smaller and the atmosphere is stuffy.

  10. What kind of cabin question do you have? We were in an aft facing balcony cabin on Deck 12. We did not participate in trivia games. However, I did see many going on and I can check the Freestyle Daily for specific information if you would like. Just let me know.

    You were near us!

  11. We especially liked the mix of demographics on the ship....babies to 90 somethings. We are sometimes the youngest on some of the other cruise lines and we have 9 grandchildren. Age is a state of mind and being with younger people enhances one's vacation. Our group of 12 was 45 to 90 and we had a wonderful time.

  12. Just off the Breakaway. The Haven pool is very small but not a water person so I don't care. I like to spend time on my balcony. We heard that the Escape is going to have a Haven twice as big as the Breakaway...which means 500 passengers. Not sure it would be a Haven then...have no idea if true as it was told by a staff member moving to the Escape. The Haven is just what the name implies a Haven from the madness of 4-5 thousand people. The bar and restaurant are next to each other. We love the Haven and will be back next year.

  13. I've noticed the food quality change in all the cruise lines we've sailed in the last ten years. To us the MDR means banquet quality food and the bigger the ship the more it is like a banquet. There is no way to make gourmet food for 5000 passengers. This is why we've been drawn to NCL. We can skip the MDR food and do specialty dining. NCL is the only line that I know that has so many options. We lasted two nights in MDR on the Oasis of the Seas. Our children and grandchildren switched to the buffet and pizza place and we started dining in their specialty restaurants. We have sailed NCL 4 times out of 30+ cruises. Sailing Princess and NCL next year. Don't think I've ever had a gourmet meal on Princess but we like the itinerary and price.

  14. Last night at Sea. We had fireworks which were postponed last night because of high winds. I enjoyed them. Best view is front starboard side of the ship.

We went to the Wine the Musical today. We think it's a bargain if you drink wine. The portions were not small. Four whites, two reds and a glass of champagne. The lunch was salad, surf and turf, with cheese cake for desert. The cost is $25 pp.

I got a haircut this evening in the spa...one of the better ones I've ever had. I played the slots for awhile...came out even for the week which is great. I didn't think the smoke was bad in the area where I played...the smokers stick together in one area so you can avoid most of the smoke. Still have Meg's left on the Internet.

We've had a wonderful time and look forward to next year on the Breakaway.

BTW we met a couple on the golf course who weren't enjoying the Breakaway as much as the Summit. Quite surprising because we won't sail on the Summitt again as we have outgrown the MDR routine of other cruise lines especially the older ships like the Summitt.
