Thank you for these live updates. We are on the 2023 WC and are very interested in the condition of Island Princess.  The smallest Princess ship we have sailed on was the old Sun.  At some point if you could post a picture of the shower I want to get a reminder of just how small it is.

    Thanks,

    Jack

Sorry…we are in a Club Class mini.  My husband complains the shower curtain still hugs him.  The overall condition of the ship is good.  Meet and Greet discussed missing the International Cafe and Vines.

@PatriciaFIf you have a chance, would you see if there is diet tonic onboard? I will be on the TA, and love my vodka and tonics….but for a long cruise, need to save a few calories somewhere!

Thank you for doing this review!

Just asked at the Lido Bar..no diet Tonic Water.  Yep..might as well drink rum and Coke calorie wise.

On some ships there is an additional charge for some of the gym classes. I can’t see any marking for that.  Does anyone know the situation on those charges? Thanks!

I haven’t seen any charges posted either in the patter or in the gym…which is pretty small.

    Day 3: at sea.

Things are slowly getting better. Dinner last night was reasonable timing around an hour. Still no waiters taking verbal drink orders, but the app wait time is down to about 20 minutes. Main complaints are: ZERO hot tubs are open and stateroom temperature never gets "cool" and no water under 30C available in the showers.

We give verbal orders in the dining room and explorers.  The shower you just have to keep turning it to the left..I decided lukewarm was better than scalding.  No problems with the AC on midship Dolphin deck port side

Thanks.  Nice to have that option close by at breakfast like the Royal class ships but it is a bit of a bummer that I'll need to trek all over first thing in the morning to savor that first cup in the Piazza!  I'm generally a fan of the Medallion app but with coffee I want to see it made and grab it while it's piping hot!

But if I understand you correctly and the espresso machine formerly in what was the Patisserie is now gone I do think it's very odd that there's no premium coffee/tea option in the Piazza, which Princess itself consistently promotes as the heart and hub of the ships.  Anyone who has cruised Princess on any class of ship knows that people go there to meet, hang out, listen to music and sip hot beverages day and night.  Relying on the medallion to order something as highly customized as premium coffee drinks (just google Starbucks memes!) is asking for trouble IMO.

At the meet and greet we all discussed the amenities we missed.  For me it is Vines.

Good Spirits has an expresso machine and you can get specialty coffees there.  The pastry selection is minimal as posted above.

I only drink one cup of coffee a day, so perhaps others on board can provide more advice as to specialty coffee ordering and availability.

Are specialty coffees / espresso available at Good Spirits...or anywhere else?

Coffee bar at the Horizon Court buffet.  Or use your medallion.  I ended up deleting the app and reinstalling and no problems so far.  Haven’t done it yet for my husband and his still has issues…like journey view never opening.

Has La Patisserie been replaced by Good Spirits?

Where can you get specialty coffees besides Buffet?

Rumor mill had an International Cafe being added by Casino - was it? (I'd be sincerely surprised if so, but a few adamant rumor mills)

    Thanks, enjoy.

I am correcting a previous answer.  La Patisserie is still on signage but has been replaced by Good Spirits.  Open at 6 for pastries and coffee but you may be better off going to the buffet for its coffee bar and pastry area.

  8. So far mixed reviews. Boarding quick and easy. Luggage at cabin before ship left port. Safe had issues, maintenance put in new batteries but real problem was the key paid only worked for a couple of numbers.

The minus medallion net is unreliable. Waiters couldn’t access the system for bar orders in the buffet or Good Fellows bar. Most people were done eating by the time their drink orders showed up even something as simple as water and ice tea.

Will post the abbreviated Patter when we are back in the cabin

  9. Summer cruises attract a younger demographic with children, especially those that are about one week long.  We find that the longer the cruise the older the average age.  But there are usually some younger folks--but younger to us is under 40.

Would they be cruising out of the US or ???

If you son is used to Azamara, perhaps he and his wife should sail Azamara.  Known product.
